A Dog Year (2009)
Border Collie Smarter Than Owner
The dog is great in this movie and I love anything that Lois Smith is in but the problem is the main character is an idiot and since this movie is autobiographical then the writer must also be an idiot. I don't have any interest now to read anything by him. The reason he has writers block is because he is not a real writer only a writer want-a-be which it is sad to say very common now. I had most of the movie on fast fwd and since I paid $1 for this DVD I think I was ripped off. It should have been a 10 minute short film and all about the dog. The missing story here involves a character that you never see which is the poor wife who is married to this guy and hopefully having an affair with someone and working towards a divorce. The dog whisperer character and scenes played by Lois Smith could have been expanded and given this movie something to think about but her scenes are limited. We have all seen the bumper sticker "My Border Collie is Smarter than your 4th Grader" well the main character's sticker reads "Border Collie is Smarter Than Owner!"
7 winchester per un massacro (1967)
Renegade Riders
The title "Payment in Blood" appears to be a marketing title as another title of the movie was "Renegade Riders" as seen in the opening credits in the 1993 VHS released by MNTEX Entertainment. The transfer was low quality as the beginning credits were cut off since it was in "pan and scan" mode and not the "letterbox" mode usually used in the beginning to capture the full screen credits with the saloon style border.
The movie has all the classic Spaghetti-Western style and sound effects and out-of-sync voice dubbing that people love. It would be nice to see a new DVD transfer from the original film stock but there are no DVDs available although there are wide screen versions on the internet floating around.
5 Flights Up (2014)
Awful corporate mainstream cinema
I don't ever want to see this movie again and I wanted it to end. This is an awful, boring, and predictable Hollywood corporate movie and a waste of good actors. The movie starts off with the typical product placement, mention of an Apple store then Keaton has the Apple computer with logo gleaming. The majority of the movie is stressful real estate dealings with unrealistic buyers and jargon which never ends. The couple's poor little 10 year old dog has to climb 5 flights of stairs every day because the owner would rather carry his coffee which causes the dogs back to go out and even after $10K+ surgery and a full recovery the stupid owner still carries his coffee and makes the dog climb the stairs... right. And then throw in the politically correct pro Muslim side story when the media labels the truck driver as a terrorist just because he abandoned his truck on the bridge. I have a re-write for this script: The vet doctor calls the SPCA and after investigating they take the dog away from the couple and fine the couple $50,000 which forces them to sell their place and after the lady and little girl buy their place the SPCA gives the little girl the dog and she carries it up the stairs every day and we never hear about the stupid bi-racial couple again. Oh and the truck driver turns out to be in the US illegally from Saudi Arabia and is using a false name and gets deported.
