Larry Boy: The Cartoon Adventures (2002)
I like it!
I purchased the Bumblyburg Super Hero Value Pack last summer, which featured both CGI Larry-boy adventures, Dave and the Giant Pickle, and all the cartoon Larryboy adventures. What I saw from this episode in particular was the simplicity. I liked the animation. Of course it was different from CGI but nonetheless it got my attention. I thought the humor was there. It just didn't rely so much on slapstick like other VeggieTales creations. I was expecting to see more VT characters though. I guess they wanted to make Bumblyburg more new and exciting and stray from the familiar. In that way it feels like a different series since it doesn't follow the CGI Larry-boy in that aspect. My favorite part is how the lesson, a Bible verse, is shown through the Super Hero Handbook. This was very clever.
In conclusion, with something like this you either love it or hate it. I love it. Even though it different, it's still worth watching.
Miracle's Boys (2005)
Very Realistic
I rented the DVD and I thought it was a movie. Turns out it's a mini-series. But either way I thought it was awesome. I thought the performances were very good especially the brothers. Lafayette's scenes in part one were heartfelt. The setting and the language that the characters used helped me to get into the action. I like how each of the brothers developed in character throughout the series. I also think it was directed well. I won't be surprised if this is made into a drama.
I am surprised, however, that this was made by a Nickelodeon spin-off channel. It was put together very well.
LazyTown (2002)
Whoa!!!
I came across this show when I was flipping through the channels. It's so awesome and very original in every right combining live action, CGI backgrounds, and puppetry. It has a great message of encouraging kids to get up and be active.
I must give props to Sportacus. I've never seen anyone do so many somersaults and back flips. I lost count of how many he did. (I'm not sure if it was the actual actor or a stunt double, but it was cool none-the-less.)
To conclude, in today's world we have so many things that hinder young kids from going outside. But luckily, people like Sportacus can change that for the better.
Passions (1999)
(Shaking head), (sighing), (rolling eyes).
OK, that's it. I've become VERY impatient with this show. Why? I'll tell you why.
A.Unresolved story lines: Liz trying to ruin Eve's life-2 years. Eve trying to find her son and Chad looking for his parents-since the show's inception. Fox drooling over Whitney-one year. Enough already. Do something so we can get on with our lives. What happens is they go into this two minute monologue of "I'm gonna do this to so-and-so" every episode and they never get anywhere. So what we end up having is a bunch of people who talk too much.
B.Predictable: I can always second guess what's going to happen on the show 90% of the time. They always say "Oh my God! So-and-so is dead!" They're not dead, just knocked out for the commercial. They always emphasize "This secret will be revealed" "These people will make love". I know it's just a fantasy. It won't happen. The only time I was surprised was when Charlie turned out to be Alistair.
C.Where have all the people gone?: Too many characters are leaving the show. David, Grace, John, Hank, Antonio(good rittens!), and now Miguel and Charity. The writers are getting rid of good characters so they can spend time on other people. Of course in some cases they spend too much time on certain characters i.e. Luis and Sheridan. Give us Simone and bring back John so they can have a loving relationship. Have Simone, Jessica, and Paloma become girlfriends and own a mark Avon business together all the while Paloma tries to steal John. See I can come up with better story lines for PSSN than those writers. BTW where are Beth, Edna, and Baby Martin?
D.Actors: According to research, some of the actors are fresh faces, models even. Some are veterans. The acting needs work sometimes, but that's due to the writing in some cases. There should be more experienced actors playing the roles, better casting directors, and directors in general.
Well that's all. So when PSSN decides it's time to stop being the worst soap on daytime, give me a call. I think I'll go back to reading books.
