War of the Dead (2011)
Nazi Zombie Action
Giving this a ten because it deserves higher than 4 overall
Non-stop action with good acting and a story that is believable and engaging, character developments shine brightly & you feel like you progress as a soldier with these characters as they uncover the infection/outbreak, it really quenches your thirst for soldier vs infected action and the threat level is so high that the characters barely get opportunities to rest which keeps the pace of the movie going throughout, excellently believable setting and wardrobe, and the unique infection compared to other films of the genre keep War of the Dead refreshing and interesting
[Rec]³: Génesis (2012)
A decent movie ruined
Pros: Zombie action throughout the entire movie til the end starting at about the 20 min mark, high threat level, good sense of urgency from the characters, nice surprising attacks, unique wedding setting, strong acting from the main character
Cons: *Spoiler* The story and plot get terribly ruined by the Priest character's ability to stop the movements of infected/zombies by speaking bible verses - this is absurd and completely ruins the mystery of infection/outbreak, not to mention spits in the face of the Undead Godfather, George A. Romero -- A. Infected/zombies are not coherent other than having primal senses and have only primal cognitive abilities, so how do they possibly understand bible verses? B. The zombie/undead genre is based around the mystery of how it happens and to solve that mystery with religion is just pathetic and insulting
If you're looking for zombie action and don't care about the movie's plot and story turning to mulch, this is worth watching
Exit Humanity (2011)
Unique, best of its kind
Pros: Good cinematography, strong acting, excellent infection/outbreak subtext foundation built from the beginning & well progressed throughout the film, wardrobe is great, civil war context is intriguing and quite refreshing for the genre, music is solid & adds well to the emotions of the characters' environment, the narration allows you to feel more connected to the main character and more involved with what he's going through in the film
Con: There are some scenes in the middle of the film that feel somewhat slow and that can be frustrating with a plot subtext that demands a fast paced sense of urgency from the characters
For a zombie/infection movie circa Civil War era, this outshines any other by far, though it may not quench the thirst of fans of non-stop zombie action
