Damsel (2024)
delightful
Scenery, fun, costumes, fun, cgi, fun, action, fun. I wish to have seen this on a big screen. That must be a gorgeous eyeful. The negative reviewers took this movie too seriously Take a belly breath, pour some good whiskey, put your feet up, and have some fun. This movie is just that. You can find fault with it all you want, be it the plot, the story (yes it is a familiar one), the make believe, the fantasy. But is that not what we need sometimes? My troubles disappeared for a couple hours and I smiled and smiled in that time. If you expect award winning acting and what all else, then sure, you will be disappointed. But do not set yourselves up for that. Just sit back and be entertained. Cheers!
Us (2019)
A bit of a joke
We laughed. My sis in law and I laughed. We laughed often.
Read the reviews and thought hey lets see this one. That was a mistake. You might like it. We wished we had spent our money on something else. A movie that was well directed and coherent would have been nice.
Resolution (2012)
I kept waiting for something to happen
Nothing happened. There was no horror, nothing scary, just some weirdness like a bad acid trip with some weak acid. The lead actors were excellent and the set made me expect some scary stuff to occur. I am still waiting. Sure, I like to support Indie film makers. When they put out this kind of nonsense my support goes out the window. What a waste of resources. There was a ton of promise at the beginning. Then the film bogged down in cinematic mud. It stayed there. This is a movie for which I'd have wanted my money refunded in a theater. The writers showed me some promise. But I need more than a promise of something good to come. I want to see a good movie.
Left Behind (2014)
Anti-human movie
Now this was a stinker of a movie. The only good part was the airplane landing and we all knew how that would turn out. The acting was pedestrian, the plot contrived and I don't know why I watched the entire thing. Probably I was waiting for it to gain some substance, but by the end I felt empty. There was no hope, no joy, no promise, nothing. This is, to me, an movie that places Christianity in a bad light. I don't believe this is what the writers intended.
Do people really believe this is what their rapture will be like? If so then give me the opposite. I believe in the basic goodness of human beings. This move did its best to strip that away from me. Nicholas Cage must be desperate for money because he is laughable in this flick. His hair is badly dyed and really, he could have done this role in his sleep. Maybe he did. The little boy was good and those performers in the mall were the best thing in this disaster of a movie.
The Cabin in the Woods (2011)
Lots of blood let in really cool ways.
Now this was a fun movie to watch and while away a rainy and windy Fall day. A+ See it. Horror at its best. Made me laugh with pleasure. Loved it. Zombies were beautiful, well, in there own way of course. The monsters were many and varied. The special effects were novel and masterful. Weird take on Big Brother, really weird. Sigourney Weaver -perfect for the role, especially know her movie history. Good call there. Who would dis this flick? Not your normal horror, cabin in the woods, lost teenagers, stab them and slab them movie. WOuld have liked to see this in a theater. A+, but I wrote that already. This is not Freddie Krueger or Jason or any of those. It is not Hellboy. This movie stands on its own. A bit of a disjointed review I know, but I am feeling a bit giddy with pleasure right now. Usually I avoid these "cabin" movies but I sure am glad I found this one.
The Frozen (2012)
Simple film challenged my mind a bit. A worthy flick.
Right off I knew that there was conflict between the woman and her man. She was distant and the man was trying to energize the situation somehow. The reason for the conflict is revealed a few minutes into the movie and ties in later especially at the end. The scenery was not spectacular although I live near the mountains so I might be spoiled. However, the setting was just right for this kind of movie It did not need to be spectacular; it needed to fit the plot and. I believe it did. The female lead is not a likable person and this works well with the plot as things change. There is a French or Swiss movie I saw several years ago and I believe writer of The Frozen has seen this movie. They are similar but sufficiently different. I liked them both which proved to me that variations on a theme can be successful. Don't expect to be horrified or bloody freaked out. It won't happen. Go with the flow and you might find yourself satisfied at the conclusion. The acting worked for me. Obviously, others do not agree with my assessment but hey, that's life.
I am partially deaf so I watch movies with the captioning. Therefore, my experience is likely different from those who can hear well. I miss the vocal nuances and pick up on other physical queues.
