Turner & Hooch (2021)
Not quite for Adults not Quite for Kids
I've pushed past the first episode to give it a chance. It's pretty much Disney kids fodder. The lead guy, Josh Peck, was always going to have big shoes to fill following Tom Hanks, even though the 'presumed' target audience probably never saw the original. So far I find him more annoying than endearing.
They compressed the dogs introduction and assimilation into the first episode and missed a lot of comedy opportunities.
Second episode and the story writers are already mining other movies for ideas. The dog doesn't seem to do that much apart from drooling. The film was a buddy movie with Turner and Hooch kind of on par.
So far in this show the dog seems to be just there to look cute.
The scripting and the story lines are pretty weak as is the acting.
This seems to be mostly aimed at kids with the added hope that it would ride some wave of nostalgia from the movie. I think so far they've failed on both counts.
United States of Al (2021)
Worse than the War
This show is truly terrible. I had hopes for it as it has some good comic actors and the idea seems kind of promising but it has been slapped together with the least amount of effort. That being said American audiences will probably lap it up and it will run for ever. The characters are generic at best. The character with the most potential is Awalmir (AL) but he's portrayed woefully by Adhir Kalyan. He sounds like an English guy trying to emulate an American's effort at an Afghani accent.
I hope it gets canned soon so the actors can put their talents to better use.
This show is a waste of time for the actors and the audience.
Little Voice (2020)
Not a Comedy.
I like this show and I'm always disappointed when each episode ends. But why in Genre does it say Comedy? It's not a comedy. One or two amusing scenes doesn't make a show a comedy. To be a comedy it has to be written specifically to get laughs.
