Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)
Not Quite What It Should Be
The movie in and of itself is good, but slightly convoluted. There is A LOT going on and nearly an hour into it before things start making sense. The production & cinematography are lovely, but I feel like there is SO MUCH going on, we start losing emotional resonance. Still, worth a watch for sure, especially if you are a fan of the the 1st movie. Many of the same themes remain. Overall, quite lacking and it's riding on the previous film's coattails for sure. I'm not gonna lie... I got really bored through part of it and just wasn't sure what this movie is trying to say, and even why it was made. So a part of me feels like this is the Director getting to be a little more artistic and edging away from MCU, but at the same time, it also feels like a bit of a money grab because I don't know why the story needed to be told.
Christmas in Pine Valley (2022)
Not Enough Plot
Honestly, I wanted to like this, but it was painful to watch. The plot was SO predictable and had nothing original to it. Also, the script was ROUGH. It affected the performances and was just boring and cheesy.
This is unfortunately a result of the production (GAC/GAF). I have yet to find one of their films that isn't painfully corny and sloppy. This movie suffers from cliches that move it to D-level, direct-to-DVD. There could've been any number of changes that would've improved the whole film.
The acting suffered from the overly cliched characters and I did like the leading lady, but it was a hard film to watch. Our secondary romance worked out ok. That is part of what saved the move. The production design wasn't too terrible.
When Calls the Heart: The Kiss (2021)
FANTASTIC EPISODE (ignore naysayers)
This episode was EVERYTHING we wanted and needed from a season finale. They tied together many of the important storylines, and they also gave us fulfillment to the long-running love triangle. Elizabeth makes her choice and it all makes perfect sense. There are a lot of people with bitter grapes & want to drag down the show. (good luck! That's not how TV works people!).
WCTH is about the entirety of Hope Valley and that is what we get, a whole story coming together. Some characters go & some are transitioning, but the story, characters, and love remains the same. This show is beautiful & I urge everyone to watch and let the love wash over you. Choose kindness & love.
The Lady and the Dale (2021)
Mismanaged this Story & Awful Subject
I am a person who ABSOLUTELY respects the plight of the Trans person, trying to live their life in peacefulness and the horrific treatment they have received. THIS.IS.NOT.THE.CASE.
Liz Carmichael from DAY 1 was con-artist and grifter who abandoned wives & children AND THEN marries and has 5 kids & begins to live as Liz. There are horrible crimes she commits and this is all glossed over as if she was a victim. She was NOT A VICTIM....she was a criminal and has completely warped her family into thinking that taking advantage of people and deliberately deceiving is okay. This has NOTHING to do with trans & this documentary should be ashamed of manipulating and abusing this issue. I am absolutely sick at how this story will be warped for ANTI-trans people to use her as an example of trans people not being authentic to themselves. Her kids are apologists & I worry about their ability to accept the truth of what happened.
Don't bother watching this....it's garbage & manipulative.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Different Strokes, Same Story
This film is not perfect. I MUST say that immediately. I will not pretend that every nuance is well thought out and perfectly planned. The story is a little lacking and I truly believe to execute this new trilogy, they needed to have a stronger idea of their narrative, goals and through-line. BUT....this is a Star Wars film that will not go down as being the worst or even close to a disgrace to the franchise.
IF you liked Episodes 1-3: script, story, character arcs, narrative....this might not do it for you. I found each of the them to be more painful than the last. Episode 3 infuriates me because of the globbed together story and plot points that make NO SENSE. "Force Awakens" was great. I enjoyed the continuation in characters, story, and the script didn't make me cringe. "Last Jedi" wasted so much potential that THAT was what irritated me. I wasn't mad...just disappointed. It did raise some great plot points though and develop some fascinating ideas.
RoS (to make things easier) expounds upon the best ideas and still doesn't deliver what we need, but in empowering "certain characters" we have a somewhat predictable, but emotionally moving finish to our epic saga of 9 films (spin offs not included, though "Rogue One" was inserted into the canon well). This was NEVER going to be the thing EVERYONE wanted. It was never going to be the Shakespearean epic like "Empire", but I am satisfied for the most part. Are there things I'd change? HELL YES....do I think this is 'painful', 'unwatchable', 'a mess' etc. Absolutely not. I am more satisfied now than I was at the end of 3, and that's saying A LOT.
