Rag Tale (2005)
Etch-A-Sketch...
...makes better use of time. The ONLY good thing about Rag Tale is that it renders real appreciation for Adam Sandler & I hate those stupid 'comedies', too! "Bevis & Butthead" would rate an Oscar compared to this dysfunctional drivel. ANYone offering a 'rating' in a positive light is looking to hone skills of deception, unbalanced psyche or just the devil. The comment about needing a bucket to hurl is an understatement. Let me say it again, the ONLY good thing about Rag Tale is that it renders real appreciation for "Dumb & Dumber" & "The Office" & "Ren & Stimpy" would rate Oscars compared to this jerky, spastic, amateurish, nonsense. ANYone offering a 'rating' in a positive light is looking to be argumentative, short 100 points in brain capacity or just the devil. Ten lines of text is 11 lines longer than this abortion deserves.
Mozart and the Whale (2005)
Whale of a Tale
I'm not really a critic but I know what I like. The story was listed as a 'comedy' but of course, it is a serious drama of human emotions with the monkey wrenches of odd and obscure brain activities. The reviews prompted interest along with the weird title & the lack of anything else to watch. The viewing was a fine surprise! There was a full range of emotions throughout the entire display. The leads were excellent & volatile. Gary Cole is always a kewl scene in any movie & here he showed a sensitivity we should all admire & emulate. The rest of the supporters were very believable & at times very whimsical & important to demonstrate the highs & lows most probably share in varying degrees by all sensitive beings. Anyone criticizing this movie just really doesn't have enough compassion to forgive any shortcomings, IF any were there! Yes, there were tears of joy to conclude abruptly with the happiest ending. Mozart & the Whale II should be in the making to continue our splendid ride through this tumultuous journey known as life!
Hell Has Harbour Views (2005)
key phuquen rap
In my dictionary, under 'lame', 'keyrap' & 'insulting', this title is listed as definition #1. Perhaps it's merely the 'semi-social', boarderline psycopath in me, but really, anyone enjoying this as comedy has a significantly warped semi-sense of humor. The entertainment value is ziltch. The social redeeming value is nil, except to offer an Australian example of why there's 'Hollywood', 'Bollywood' & 'Pine Wood' studios but never a 'Sydneywood', 'Brizzywood' or 'Perthwood'. The language alone is obnoxiously foul & the premise offensive. Unfortunately, it suits assbackwards Australia to perfection. Especially since 'A modern tale of love and litigation.' has the looks & feel of 1987, when certain political corrective measures had yet to be recognized. Wot a load!
Wicker Park (2004)
Best Suspense Romantic Drama I Ever Saw
At first it seemed kinda like a 'chick flick'. I suppose it isn't, by any stretch of the imagination, an 'action' movie but there's enough camera work to keep it fast paced. The main motivation of watching stems from the Chicago setting, my 'hometown'. But the characters are very appealing, the sets are authentic & modern & the storyline is unbelievably captivating. Besides seeing the snow falling on Chicago's Water Tower, the interesting interiors, airport scenes & reflections throughout, the movie generates a magnetism rarely found. I'm sitting in Australia at 72F but busted out in shivers watching these poor people freezing in the cold! It's immediately my favorite 'Love' story. If you don't enjoy the misadventures of Matt & Lisa & their weird friends, there's simply no hope for you at all! I'll borrow my bride's and render four thumbs up on this one! Fugedaboud Dr. Zivago.
Fools' Parade (1971)
Good Ole Fashioned No Chick Flick
Splendid film! :) I've been looking for it off & on for more than 30 years. Seems to be unavailable in VHS or DVD :(! In Feb 1973, I was a projectionist in Texas & showed it to troops while on maneuvers at Fort Hood. I can remember specifically because of an ice storm & my wife's birthday! The anguish of seeing the corruption involved with the prison warden & the way he, the towns people, & the railroad interacted to thwart the well-planned efforts of the convicts to 'go straight', was extremely powerful & tragic. The explosions of the dynamite were minuscule compared to the highly charged emotional scars developed by the story. I'll always regard it as one of the best Jimmy Stewart movies. Such a shame it's not readily available.
