Battle in Space: The Armada Attacks (2021)
This is horrific.
Here I am, half way through the boring snorefest piece of trash and I have YET to see a Battle in Space.
How this thing got 2.5 stars is beyond me.
War of the Worlds (2019)
Even the Incomparable Gabriel Byrne can't save this PoS
You know the saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it?" This should go double for reboots.
Especially, this steaming pile of horse-pucky.
If you're like me- having experienced the original Orson Wells version, saw the the 50s version, saw the Spielberg version and now dragging your way through this boring trite- you're probably kicking yourself wondering why you're wasting your time.
The story moved quickly at first, dropping the aliens right into your lap on the first episode. Then, it grinds to a screeching halt with exposition on characterS you can barely give two craps about.
The production value is hot garbage. I've seen better in Youtube videos. Cheaply made, with weakly forced tension.
I love Gabriel Byrne as an actor. His work in Usual Suspects and End of Days was magnificent. He does well here, but the lady they shackled him with does little to help him out.
The alien machines are obvious imitations from a Black Mirror Metalhead. Cool, somewhat, but a far cry from the Tripods that you fully expect from a War of the Worlds work.
Look, if you were to make an alien invasion movie and call it "Random Alien Invasion," this works. But, if you call it War of the Worlds, there's an expectation that needs to be met.
This didn't meet that expectation.
Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
SOOO MUCH FUN!
This movie started strong and did not let up. With a solid, believable back story the movie finds it's pace almost immediately. The characters are all introduced in an intuitive fashion and each add to the bredth to the film. The pace was very action oriented, with little downtime, yet the film still managed to endear you to the cast given each's unique styles.
There is one cameo that was a jaw dropper, if you've been following along with the Star Wars Saga. And, I tell you, this cameo did NOT DISAPPOINT! There were easter eggs throughout that paid homage not only to the original trilogy, but to the prequels as well.
Ron Howard hits a home run with this film. It had the same wild eyed adventure and fun experience that I had when I first saw Star Wars as a kid.
Seriously, if you didn't like it, you don't deserve to call yourself a Star Wars fan.
