Mightier - finally!
22 September 2009
I could open this review a thousand different ways, but all I can say is: if you get the chance - see this short film! Seriously, the Australian Film Industry (which is really a bunch of local and small independent's all scrounging around for loose change to pull together some kind of budget to make stories) does the very best that it can to bring quality cinema to the masses, but with limited resources this can be a trial...

Mightier on the other hand, proves something so grand - it MUST be mentioned: it utilises Australia for what it is and what is all around to pull-together a great short film that is in a very rare genre in Australia: fantasy...

Honestly, Australia cannot boast too many of these (New Zealand can and does... and not just 'Lord of the Rings' either!) - yet, Mightier proves that we should! For what this film was made for and considering the resourcefulness of the project - this is an instant winner! Track it down! It's worth it!

REVIEW: The Dark Knight
17 July 2008
In 2005, Christopher Nolan with a very committed and talented cast and crew set out to make an amazing 'crime noir' film that was gestured to remaining true to the values of artistic and quality cinema, whilst committing to mass-commercial appeal by incorporating a famed character from the DC Comics franchise and honouring a darker, grittier, intense and mature rendition of a Graphic Novel theme with 'Batman Begins'. The result was one that received mass acclaim and generated a feeling throughout film-goers everywhere that this was a Comic Book tie-in film that was, unanimously, a force to be reckoned with - a total triumph! - with a complete rollicking epic story, interesting characters, memorable moments, justified action and responses to a situation that one man - with an ideal - could change things...

Forever...

Now there's no going back...

Introducing 'The Dark Knight' - following the events of 'Batman Begins', we now find Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) pushed to his limits emotionally, physically and especially ethically under the severity of a new force of criminal in town... a man with no rules and no response to authority... a man who quite simply, is in it 'for kicks' and would gladly watch the world burn in a blaze of white hot chaos... a man who is as mysterious as the 'smile on his face' - The Joker (Heath Ledger in an amazing, potential Oscar blazing final performance). The Joker only has one real ambition and that is to satisfy his ego by 'killing the Batman' and hopefully, along the way, allowing him to unveil his identity to the world... he will do whatever it takes to destroy Gotham's greatest vigilante, even if it means that he destroys everything (including himself) in process. This is the main challenge to 'The Dark Knight' - do I become one of them to stop this ultimate evil? Or do I persevere? Let them hate me for not giving in and going against all I stood for? What I deem right over wrong? When is too far... too far? ...

Incorporate an amazing, complex plot with all the trimmings of 'crime epic', interesting flawed characters, an evil that is, somewhat, sympathetic and ethical issues that will have you questioning the 'The Dark Knight' himself... even though you know the answer... it is one of the most satisfying and intense films ever made, quite simply, brilliant! The performances from the support cast including Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent (who renders an amazing character in 'Two-Face'), Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth - the voice of reason, Morgan Freeman - as Lucius Fox - an inventor of great intelligence and moral grounding, Maggie Gyllenhaal as Rachel Dawes - the conflicting love interest and Gary Oldman as Commissioner Jim Gordon (in a well-rounded and an amazing performance) as Batman's greatest ally, they all work well within their roles and add to the drama and the emotional impact that this film needs to rise it well above just 'ordinary'...

This is perhaps, the most anticipated film of the year, and believe me, it was worth every painful moment of consistent waiting...

For those who are curious to know if questions are answered, you may be surprised - I won't give anything away! For the sceptics, believe me - trust the hype on this one - it will not disappoint! This is one of the most well-rounded, action-packed, justifiable and memorable films ever made! Go see it and actually 'experience' a film once again... It's such a great feeling!

Get out of my Dreams, Get Into My Car! Oh yeah! 80's bliss...
8 November 2006
License To Drive was one of those 80's flicks that I had always wanted to see, and yet, never could find a copy. Till now! It was playing on TV recently and I have not only watched it, but am waiting to see if I am fortunate to find the DVD so I can buy it.

Quite simply, if you are a fan of the 80's and/or love your nostalgia then this film is for you! Typical 80's groove, lingo, starring leads (introducing a young and very attractive Heather Graham in her screen debut as the delicious Mercedes Lane) and, something that definitely deserves a mention is the soundtrack! Great tunes that suit the mood perfectly. Billy Ocean's "Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car" was a highlight and with the title "License to Drive" was the ultimate song. There are others by Belinda Carlise and the Breakfast Club that will have you not only reminiscing, but toe tapping and humming as well.

Also, look out for James Avery as Les' DMV Instructor. What a champion! Anyway everyone, Get Outta Your Seats... Get it into your DVD player...

Have fun, Cheers!

Absolutely Brilliant Film!
9 September 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Virtually flawless is all I have to say on this wonderful, biographical "feel good film" all the way from New Zealand! Deadset unbelievable true story of Burt Munro, a pensioner from New Zealand who's dream was to travel to Bonneville Salt Flats and race his 1920 Indian bike... and as you can tell from the title - he did it! In 1967 he set the record as the fastest Indian traveling just over 200 miles an hour! Fantastic performances from Anthony Hopkins and Co, Excellent cinematography, realistic storyline of a man who is sure to have a place in your heart - he's a bloody champion! Nothing ever got this man down - nothing! Just goes to show, if you can set your dreams ahead of you, if you persist through whatever odds life or the road ahead may throw at you, you can achieve anything! Uplifting, moving, hilarious, witty and just too darn good to mention everything about it... i'd be here for days... For those who have seen it know this, for those who haven't - watch it, love it and prepared to be inspired... I know I was! Cheers.

Mystery Date (1991)

Glad I found it... highly underrated film
8 September 2006
Hey there IMDb viewers, Seriously - I took a chance on this film when it came to TV and I honestly have to say that, if you can watch it for what it is - i.e. pure entertainment - your gonna have a blast! It stars a young Ethan Hawke (Training Day) and a very attractive, younger Teri Polo (Meet The Parents). When Tom McHugh's (Hawke) older brother Craig (McNamara) sets Tom up with Gina (Polo) for a blind date everything for the beginning part, starts off well... until Tom finds himself chased throughout the night by cops, a psychotic flower deliver man (Stevens) and a mob Boss by the name of James Lew (Wong) - it seems everyone wants a piece of Tom... or is it Craig and why?... Watch and find out! A great date movie and one to watch when your in one of those "I want to watch something, but i'm not sure what" type of scenarios. Cheers.

The Magical World of Disney: Sunday Drive (1986)
Season 31, Episode 9

Yep...Please Read
23 October 2004
I was so fortunate enough to see this great, aged television film starring Ted Wass and Carrie Fisher.

This family film was on Vault Disney one night and it was a film that i (admitingly) was a tad skeptical of watching, well this proved to me that i have to keep my mind right open. This film rocked!

I've looked for it everywhere (a copy, or at least another viewing so i could tape it, thats the problem with television movies...have to wait for another viewing)

anyway, getting away from the story, the story is about Paul Sherridan(who if i can remember rightly is an artist who's about to embark on a business date) on a Sunday (of all days).

As Paul is traveling (with his faithful dog) and he pulls into a restaurant to refresh and recharge the batteries, when and identical car who holds an older couple and their younger relatives and the cars park basically right next to one another.

as you can imagine, with some escapades at the restaurant (as you might have guessed) the cars get mixed up. Paul mistakingly ends up with the kids and the older couple ends up with Paul's dog.

Of course, the cars are a great distance away from one another when they both discover that "hang on...oops, wrong car" and the hairlarious antics follow as the two sets of cars try to relocate one another.

This is a great family film, with the humour oriented at adults and children alike, its a rare thing within films these days however, this old school classic from 1986 manages to do this exceedingly well.

The chemistry between Ted Wass and Carrie Fisher's character (Frannie Jessup) is well displayed on the screen, from the moment Paul pulls up and helps her out after her car breaks down - throughout the film when discovering more about themselves and the situation and how to deal with it and at the conclusion of this film.

All in all, this film is great, a pleasant film with great humour. if you can catch this rare gem, please watch it i guarantee after you get past the initial slow introduction (it does take awhile to get into it) you will forever be blessing this film. Check it out!

Cheers!
