Rose of Death (2007)
Intensly Boring Horror
A group of teens brutalizes and kills a young couple on Prom night only to have them return to exact revenge 10 years later.
This movie comes across as a student film. It is predictable, made on the cheap and every character is shallow.
The plot is derivative of 80's horror movies, and the dialogue doesn't seem plot related at all - it purely exists to string together the very brief slasher scenes There is no cinematic tension, and the synthesizer score really grates after only a few minutes.
Compared to other really low budget horrors, I guess at least the acting was on par, but that wasn't enough to save this film.
I have to say I wasn't expecting a lot from this movie, and it delivered nothing in spades.
Save your money and more importantly your time by not watching.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005)
Read The Books Instead
If you take the radio/book series, remove most of the funny stuff, alter the plot and even the characters slightly and then add a tonne of CGI and even some clichéd romance, well you've got it.
I'd swear that Arthur was much more pathetic in the books, and that Zaphod was a far cooler hoopy frood :) By attempting to pander to both the fans of the book and to the masses, the movie has achieved the worst of both worlds. Fans will be appalled at the lack of humour and I'm guessing the regular movie goers will just be weirded out by its humour...
Oh, and one's imagination beats the heck out of CGI any day Read the books instead, you'll laugh yourself silly
Defiance (2003)
What Am I Watching ?
I couldn't decide from the first few minutes of the film - is this a trailer for a movie or a very long flashback sequence?
The movie listed itself as 71 minutes and became a shade over 60 (on DVD)
All the action sequences changed POV so quickly it was impossible to latch onto the story. Character development was practically non nonexistent and the final scene was over so quickly it was a surprise to see the credits. Acting ranged from appalling to not so bad. I should have known in the final fight scene that it was the main bad guy who was killed - that was the most realistic makeup of the entire move !!! And that's saying something...
Give me my hour back :)
