Our Kind of People (2021)
Beautiful scenery
I thought the acting was good for the most part. Morris Chestnut always good with his sexy voice. Seems soapy, but if there are abs showing and some beautiful fashion and hair. I'm hooked!
Call Me Kat (2021)
Get a couple episodes in, it gets better.
I initially thought this was a hot mess. The pilot seemed forced and while it breaks the 4th wall like Miranda (which I loved, Tom Ellis before Lucifer, yum) it is influenced by rather than a remake of that show. It has its own charm and lovable characters. Mayim is a very talented lady and this is a great vehicle for her post Big Bang Theory.
A Discovery of Witches (2018)
Wish they had chosen a different lead actress.
Let me start by saying that I loved the books. It's difficult to immerse yourself in a trilogy without having a picture of the female protagonist in your head. That being said, Teresa Palmer is way too bland for the part. The books had a sexy, passionate, all encompassing love between Matthew and Diana. This pairing is bland California girl meets hot vampire who might as well be her brother for all the heat that's generated. Disappointed.
Boys State (2020)
Disappointing
I understand that this was filmed in Texas where I currently (unfortunately) live, so I understand the environment these children were exposed to. The history taught in the schools here is very biased towards a right wing platform. The New York Times had an excellent article along with excerpts should you wish to clarify.
The way the film was edited was misleading, fool that I am I expected a documentary to be more straightforward. I had great hopes pinned on the young man who was a great speaker and who encompassed a sense of hope as well as integrity. There was no happy ending. It saddens me that lying, cheating and slandering has been passed down to our children as the best way to win. The bullying through social media was especially egregious. I am truly scared for our kids and this country if we don't get off the evil path we are on soon.
Five Bedrooms (2019)
Great escape
Very clever and timely. I had no idea the real estate prices were so high in Australia! I really needed something to erase all that's going on and to not think for an hour. As an older woman, I appreciate the "May-December " romance lol. Good job, I really hope there's a second season.
Cursed (2020)
Entertaining
Ok, so I love anything about the Arthurian legend...this was not remotely that. If, however, you disregard the names and don't refer to your knowledge of the legend to try and make sense of how the characters are related, it is an interesting if somewhat over the top pc-wise story. Merlin is a wizard as always, but now Arthur is black and a thief? Not cool in 2020 ( or 1920 for that matter) and Morgana is his sister and a lesbian nun...a bit much. The costumes and set design are nice though. The acting is not bad. The setting is pretty. Don't analyze and let it just be what it is, escapism. We all need that right now.
9-1-1: Lone Star (2020)
Rough start, but growing on me.
Love the original. The first episode I was like, what the hell is going on with Liv Tyler's voice? A lot of diverse characters and the first episode was a bit much, but it is getting better. Austin is extremely diverse and a great city. I think the creators were trying to embrace that. It also allows the show to really delve into character stories. Give it a shot.
Sweet Magnolias (2020)
Really sweet, but...
I'm really enjoying this, but there are a few things that are really bugging me. The dialects are all over the place. If these people grew up together, they would not have accents that went from Savannah to somewhere swampy. Chris Klein and Heather Hadley were way over the top. No physician is going to drop their "g"s like that. "Weddin"? Seriously. Also, why doesn't the big girl get a love interest?? Not cool. Lastly, a snack bar full of baked goods has no place in a spa lol
Making the Cut (2020)
I didn't realize how much of a diva Heidi Klum was!
Holy crap, how does Tim stand her? It's just so over the top. The episode where he actually wins one of their "friendly " competitions, she pouts like a spoiled child. Don't get me started on designers that don't sew and send safety pins down the runway? Wtf?
Shaft (2019)
Seriously awful.
Love SLJ, have seen pretty much everything he's done, absolutely no idea why he would take this part unless he lost a bet. Dialogue terrible, nonexistent plot, and I was really surprised to see that the kid playing his son had ever had a professional acting job. He was just. That. Bad.
The Apartment (2012)
Love design shows, but that's not what this is.
I actually don't know how to describe this. They go through all the purchasing of items and picking colors and such for room designs, but you never get to see the finished product. There is just a quick shot of the room in question, and then the judges rip it apart. It's very frustrating.
Bless This Mess (2019)
Predictable
I really like the actors involved in this show, but I saw everything that was going to happen a mile away. I'll give it one more shot, but I don't think it's a winner.
