The Umbrella Academy: World's Biggest Ball of Twine (2022)
The transition was flawless.
I am so impressed by how they did right for Elliot Page. That transition was respectful and truly helped represent Elliot as Viktor properly without making a deal of it. Netflix and the script writers for the show are doing it sooo right. I cannot express how happy I am that this show is what it is.
Fate: The Winx Saga (2021)
It really looked like it was going to be good
I really liked the feel of sisterhood it felt like it was leading to... a full on elemental coven, however the way I couldn't even make it past episode 03 because even the people I thought were cool had judgy face at Terra trying to be body positive.
Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020)
It wasn't the mess I expected..
It was more the mess I hoped for... I honestly had no intent to see this movie at all but then I was invited to go by my best friend and said fudge it. I am honestly glad I went. This movie is a total hot mess... but not the mess I expected... totally the mess I wanted.. A. it passed the bechdel test with flying colors B. no Jared Leto ever C. So much delicious violence.... like soooooo much.... if you want to see girls kicking ass with a stick to the man then this is definitely the movie... it's colorful, action PACKED, woman power awesomeness. Anyone judging this movie angrily probably has an issue with women being empowered. It wasn't perfect and no matter how hard Margot tries she's just not NOT the animated series Harley... but it was actually a quality hot mess...
His Dark Materials: The Fight to the Death (2019)
Yet again with perfection
Again for the seventh time I am taken aback by how very well put together this story is put together. Even the way they integrated Will's back story from the first few chapters of the second book makes sense. The scenes do take place at the same time, the book just shoves Will at you real quick while this story puts it in the right place in the timeline. Pretty much every detail of this show is spot on and I am just enthralled by how good it is. I have said it before and I will say it again. Can the show creators for this take on Eragon? Those books really do deserve a proper do over.
His Dark Materials (2019)
SO IMPRESSED!
Can the person who is running this show please take on Eragon? This is the best page to screen adaptation I have ever seen. I am constantly finding myself looking at what I saw in my head while I was reading the book and the script is pretty well put together too. It isn't word for word but for the most part it doesn't stray very far from the book at all. The actors are all well cast and all have the necessary chemistry in the right places. There's a little inclusion of stuff from later books but the way they did it, it makes sense why they did it and why they placed it in the story where they did. At episode 0106 and I am full on happy tears TEN STARS!!!
His Dark Materials: The Spies (2019)
Floored by the accuracy.
I will admit, it has been a few since I read the books but I loved them immensely and they stayed with me because the imagery in my head was so vivid. Regarding that, this episode in particular had me seeing those images in my head all over again while seeing them on the screen. This show is holding really tightly so far to the way I remember it and I couldn't be more pleased.
Captain Marvel (2019)
Don't go with the critics!!
The only reason people could possibly dislike this movie is either because there is no stereotypical romance story where the heroine needs a male to keep her afloat or because they are just straight up intimidated by strong women. If you're not a gender typical "see you next Tuesday" go see this friggin movie!! It was visually striking, emotionally riveting, even without a romantic arc, the characters were well portrayed and acted, good balance of action, feels, humour, and just all around good storytelling. Answer to the must know.. yes stay until the after credits, and if the Marvel page flip intro doesn't have you crying before the movie even starts, you have no right to call yourself a Marvel comics fan.
