3 Body Problem (2024)
Fantastic Cast
Benedict Wong and Kevin Eldon are just enough to make the show a star parade. I wish there were no actors from game of thrones though. Game of thrones was too long too much and the producers sweated it to a sickening point. Now everytime I see someone from game of thrones I get that sickening feeling. I am only two episodes into the series and I am not sure how the story will develop but the Tiananmen square and the red guards and China being portrayed like nazi Germany makes me think this show pleases those who want to ban tik tok. Is China the new Russia now? The evil empire?
Sky flickering and nobody really caring too much about it is a bit underwhelming. Also one single police officer investigating a series of suicide incidents is a bit underwhelming too. This show is overall a bit underwhelming. P. S. Don't point your telescope to the sun like in this show it will fry your eyeballs.
The Gold (2023)
A Cheeky 5
I usually get hooked to shows by a character doing or saying something interesting that makes me think or at least smile which has not happenned with this show so far yet as I am watching the second episode at the moment and all I am hearing is some guys justifying their actions by rich people being rich and crooks being crooks which is quite boring. Did the people whom this show is based on really try selling some of 250.000.000 $ worth of gold on the streets to people? I might actually not watch this show anymore. Also maybe it's just me but Lowden's acting screams "I am not River Cartwright trust me this is a completely different character" so loud it makes my eyes hurt. A cheeky five for this uninteresting story as a treat from me to Jackson Lamb.
The Devil's Hour (2022)
60 Minutes for this?
If you are going to have a character who smokes cigarettes it is better to use an actor who smokes or knows how to smoke a cigarette. Isaac seems properly mental. Is that intentional or does isaac not know how to play his character too? Because he is a brick but his mother seems to have the impression that she has an almost normal child. The kid had to be put on a cocktail of antipsychotics 6 therapists ago. I was gonna give 2 stars because the chubby policeman is a nice character however I had to take the second star back because Lucy's mom is too ugly. She alone is a horror show. I know you try your best to create a sense of dread with unnecessarily long scenes and the sound of Isaac's bedside lamp's switch and everything but you made her tad too ugly.
60 minutes is way too long for saying "When Lucy was a kid, one night at 3.33 her mother who was later diagnosed with schizophrenia had attempted suicide and from that night on Lucy started waking up from nightmares every night exactly at 3.33 and she hallucinated throughout the day. Lucy has a son who also suffers from mental illness. Her entire family suffers from hereditory mental disease. BUT! It is not actually mental disease because after having these visions for 20 years she will realize they are real. Whoopdeedoo.
Cleaning Up (2019)
I like Sam
I am really annoyed by people who rated this show 1/10 just because they didn't like the protagonist. If they want to see perfect characters with no real issues they seriously should stay away from British TV except for Teletubbies maybe. Seriously go watch Murican TV HIMYM or Superman.
Now I know nothing about stock trade. If the writers didn't do their homework about trading and if this series is like Mr. Robot full of utter bullsh#t then it's a shame because the cast is AMAZING. It would be a waste of a great cast. So. I can't make any comment on that.
On the other hand, the characters are really great. The psychological problems Sam goes through and her struggle with her destructive behavior are very well put.
Don't expect this show to be better call saul or full of genius plot twists or you will be disappointed. In its own course events resolve in ways that will always make you keep in mind it is fiction but this also achieves making the characters almost real. I think there is a tradeoff between having real personalities as characters and how realistic your plot is. This show as well as many other British series I have seen is strong on the characters and a bit loose on having the perfectly realistic plot.
Still it is a pretty good plot though.
Overall I like this show. Half of the reason is the actors in it and the other half is how Sam is a very coherent character.
