Precious Bane (1989 TV Movie)

Precious Bane-a wonderful tale which deserves to be shown again
5 February 2006
Just reading the reviews of this wonderful BBC mini series reminded me how much I enjoyed this when it was first broadcast many years ago. At the time I remember waiting with anticipation for the next installment and fell in love with John Bowe and Janet McTeer ,two talented actors that we don't see enough of on TV or cinema these days.

I have tried without success to obtain several of the BBCs fantastic dramas from the past, including the 1973 version of Jane Eyre and the 1972 version of Anne of Green Gables, all wonderful timeless classic stories, which sadly the BBC seem to have no intention of releasing on video or DVD. If anyone learns otherwise I would love to hear from them.

In the meantime we will have to content ourselves with our recollections of how wonderful they were.

Jane Eyre (1973)

Jane Eyre BBC mini series 1973 the definitive version
29 July 2005
I was delighted to read the positive reviews of this wonderful adaptation of Jane Eyre. I agree wholeheartedly with all the comments listed. I remember watching this series on BBC 2 in the early 1970s and was absolutely captivated. It brought the novel to life in the most magical way. At that time I was studying Jane Eyre as a text for 'O' level English Literature and it made studying the novel a real pleasure. I have never seen a better Mr Rochester or Jane Eyre and the sexual chemistry between Michael Jayston and Sorcha Cusack was electrifying to watch. I have not seen this series since that original broadcast and to the best of my knowledge it was never repeated. It was pre video recorders in our household so we have no copy of it. I would dearly love to view it again and have tried in vain to obtain a copy. The BBC have released later and in my opinion inferior versions but apparently have no plans to release this one. It is testimony to the power of those wonderful performances of more than 30 years ago that I can still remember how superb they were. Here's hoping that the BBC have a change of heart.

A superb sequel to Anne of Green Gables
23 August 2004
I loved this sequel which follows Anne into adulthood and continues to explore her relationship with Gilbert Blythe. Kim Braden played Anne just as I imagined her when I read the Anne stories , and she was ably supported by a superb cast who all equally well portrayed the characters and brought them to life in a memorable and sympathetic way. I feel that Joan Crafts' direction must have helped to extract such supreme performances from the actors and actresses. I would love to obtain a copy of this mini -series either on video or DVD as I have tried in vain to acquire this version which in my opinion is the best that I have seen, all other Annes pale in comparison to Ms Braden. I hope that someone will be able to help me in my search.
