Rashomon (1950)

The darker side of a great director!
10 September 2007
Rashomon (1950) has all of the charm and atmosphere of an Akira Kurosawa production. However the subject he explores and the tale he tells to us viewers this time round is much more unsettling and much less lighthearted than many of his mainstream movies.

I first bought Rashomon on DVD a few years ago as I had just recently became a big Kurosawa fan after having watched several of his most influential works including Ikiru (1952), The Hidden Fortress (1958) and not to mention Seven Samurai (1954). All of which had ranked well among my favourite films of all time. So I thus had to check out more. And this was recommend to me and being a fan of Murder Mysteries the plot's summary excited me.

Set in 17th century Japan, Rashomon tells the dark tale of a vicious confrontation between a ruthless bandit (Kurosawa regular Toshiro Mifune), a wealthy samurai (Masayuki Mori) and his beautiful wife (Machiko Kyo) during which the husband is killed and his body discovered by a local woodcutter (Another regular Takashi Shimura).

However upon going to trial all four testifier's, including the bandit, the wife, the dead man (speaks through a local medium) and the woodcutter each give four completely different accounts of what actually happened that fateful day and which make no connection whatsoever with the last.

Who is telling the truth? Is only one of them being honest? Are they all lying in order to present themselves in a good light? Or are they all lying to deliberately cover something up? Are they merely giving their own accounts of what happened through there own eyes and from there own points of view? Could Woodcutter's account as the only commoner and passer by on the scene truly be the genuine Revelation of what happened that afternoon? Or is he too holding back on something in order to keep the REAL TRUTH from the audience?

All the joys of a "who done it" only much more thought provoking and far more deep in the long term sense. Though a black and white film that does not prevent the camera from creating many colourful and mystifying shots aided by the use of light. The Japanese landscapes are again beautiful and the music haunting thus delivering a peaceful setting to this overall tragic tale and making this an unforgettable movie experience.

The nearest the 20th century got to Shakespere. Rashomon is without doubt ranked among my twenty movies list and is definitely in my opinion one of the top ten movies of all time in terms of being well made.

A must see classic. 9/10 stars.

Good but overrated
15 March 2006
First of all I am by no means a Shawshank hater nor I'm I here to troll the film or its fans for it being ranked this high on the IMDb top 250. Shawshank I must say is a rather enjoyable watch with a decent performance from Tim Robbins, a particular good one from Morgan Freeman, a decent storyline and a nice ending. However that said I would not put it anywhere near my top 50 movies list and I'm pretty sure I could name at least 30 films, twenty of which are not even ranked in the 250 that are IMO way better than Shawshank in their use of story telling and making you study them in your head even after you've watched them many times. It would perhaps be safe to say that what ever it does for many other people it just didn't do for me. The story was fairly predictable from start to finish and although I did appreciate its ending I found it to be too much your typical Hollywood sort of ending where every things happy and all loose ends have been tied up etc. I've now seen this movie four times and I must say I still find it to be very overrated, when I see it voted number two of all time then I think of how there are so many other movies out there not even in the 250. Oh well I guess popularity polls can never be just the way one would like them to be. Overall I give The Shawshank Redemption 6/10 stars I would have given it a seven or a eight only with the amount of high votes and rankings its got over the years on this site, I just felt it wasn't in need of such charity. As stated above a very enjoyable prison drama but just nowhere near in the same league as The Godfather, Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings trilogies. But hey thats only my opinion and thats what makes us all different isn't it?

One of the most powerful movies ever made!
19 August 2005
Warning: Spoilers
American History X is one of the most important films of are generation which tells us about the true horrors of racial prejudice(from both white and black citizens) that still goes on in our world today.

In the state of California a young Neo-Nazi skinhead called Derek Vinyard(Edward Norton) is arrested and jailed for the violent killings of two coloured men who were trying to steal his van. Then while serving his sentence Vinyard slowly begins to realise just how wrong he was to do all the savage things he did. Derek vows that on the day of his realise he shall be a reformed man and is determined to save his younger brother Danny(Edward Furlong) from adopting to the same life style he had once lead due to the fact that he has already fallen under the influence of Cameron Alexander the older man who had convinced Derek to set up the white power movement that he use to lead, while destroying shops in their area which were owned by foreign businessmen. The story is very well written and makes it easy to understand all the characters. The ending is a bit of a shocker but still powerful as it remains us that every racial group on this earth can be racist not just the while people.

Edward Norton's acting as Derek Vinyard in this movie was legendary and easily his best performance so far, passing Fight Club by miles in my opinion. I here he was up for an occur back in 1998 for his role in American History X and was only denied it due to all the controversial scenes in the movie, which I fell was a real shame as he really deserved it much more that anyone else that year.

Edward Furlong is also excellent in his role as Danny Vinyard and was a really good narrator throughout the film. The rest of the cast which included Avery Brooks, Ethan Suplee, Fairuza Balk and Stacy Keach are also terrific.

This movie is one of the best and most powerful pieces of acting I've ever seen in my life and I'm actually quite surprised its only ranked at number 60 instead of in the IMDb top 20, but oh well I guess popularity polls can never be the exact why you would wish them to be. Anyway this movie has lots of important lessons to teach its viewer and I would suggest everyone to watch it. I overall give American History X a definite 10/10 stars.

Better than people say!
9 August 2005
Okay so yes I do agree very much that Star Wars episode I The Phantom Menace will never be as stunning as other Star Wars films such as "A New Hope, "The Emipre Strikes Back, "Return of the Jedi or "Revenge of the Sith" which are all some of my favourite movies. However I do not believe that it is worthy of all the badmouthing it has received over these last lot of years by many critics.

As regardless of some of the stuff it lacked in certain places I felt it made up for in other areas in the plot, acting and effects etc. Star Wars episode I The Phantom Menace told us the start of the saga involving two Jedi knights Qui-Gon Jinn(Liam Nesson) and Obi-Wan Kenobi(Ewan McGregor) who while on a mission to end the greedy trade federations blockade of the planet Naboo and restore peace to the Galatic Republic have to stop and have there starship repaired on the Hutt dictatorship planet of Tattoine, where they discover the young slave boy Anakin Shywalker who's dream is to one day fly away in a spaceship and train to become a great Jedi knight.

Gui-Gon who believes strongly in young Skywalker chooses to take him with them back to the Jedi council to have him trained in the ways of the force, unaware that the path way he is taking will change him into the evil Sith lord we all now from the originals as Darth Vader.

Another character that deserves a mention is Padme who was played perfectly by Nataile Portman. She is such a cute actress IMO.

When I ask some of my friends why they disliked this film they usually blame it on the one same thing Jar Jar Binks, who I must say yes can be a bit annoying a lot of the time, although I must confess that I did find him rather hilarious in the battle between the Gungans and the federations droid armies.

What I would say to people who hated The Phantom Menace due to Jar Jar is to just ignore him and not let him spoil the whole episode for you and concentrate on the rest of the story.

The character who impressed me the most I would have to say is Qui-Gon Jinn due to the great acting from Liam Nesson who give yet another wonderful performance.

Darth Maul was an excellent new villain and he, Gui-Gon and Obi-Wan have a great fight towards the end of the film, which has very good light sabre effects and is set in a rather interesting location.

To be honest the only problems that I have with this movie are the pod race on Tattoine carrying on for a bit to long, the way it sometimes doesn't connect to the original trilogy very well in parts and there not being enough scenes with Darth Maul featured in them.

Overall this movie is not perfect and by no means flawless. However I think it has been trolled enough over the years and its time to look for the more positive parts in the film which believe me do be come visible to your eyes once you watch it a certain number of times.

Overall a Star Wars episode that is more good than it is bad ( Despite what others would tell you IMO ) I give episode one the Phantom Menace a well deserved 7/10 stars. Nothing beats " The Empire Strikes Back " though!

Crash Bandicoot (1996 Video Game)
10/10
A Classic!
28 June 2005
Warning: Spoilers
This is the very first time that I've made a comment on a play station game and I just felt that this one was by far the best one to start off with. Anyway I first played Crash Bandicoot back in 1999 when it was bought for me and I was 11 years old at the time. Even to this day it still has to go down as one of the most memorable play station games I've ever played. The levels are exciting and inventive. The characters legendary and the music lovable.

THE STORY BEGAINS LIKE THIS: The evil Dr Neo Cortex has been experimenting in his island laboratory trying to create the perfect Bandicoot warrior to help him control the planet. However something goes very wrong and he ends up with a perfectly kind and brave Bandicoot named Crash, who's only desire is to protect the earth from Cortex's evil plans. Crash escapes from the island though the lab window and is washed up on N Sanity Beach(The first level). Then he remembers that his girlfriend(another Bandicoot) is still trapped back on the doctor's island and begins a long and deadly journey though the jungle's of island one, the ancient ruins of island two and then make his way though Cortex's industrial Lab based island in order to defeat the evil doctor and save his friend. Some of the games levels in clued temples, native villages, upstreams and even a level were you have to raid a wild hog to get your way around the place.

There are also the boss levels which are great fun to complete. The first boss you meet is Papu Papu a large native chief with a sort temper. To beat him in battle simply jump to avoid the swings from his club then jump on his big head to knock him out cold. Next comes my favourite boss Ripper Roo a crazy little blue kangaroo who laughs like a hyena. In order to get the better of him you will have to avoid contact with his toe nails and pick the right steeping stones to jump on. Then use your mind and the Big TNT boxes to defeat the insane boss and his wee think puzzle. The next villain you must face is Koala Kong a huge koala bear with big muscles. Now this big fella may look pretty strong but he is really easy once you get the hang of it. Simply avoid the rocks he throws at you then throw them right back in his face. You next encounter a rat named Pinstripe who looks very like a 1940's godfather style gangster with a deadly tommy gun. Then you will go on to fight the doctors assistant Nitrus Brio and then Cortex himself which are again great levels.

While on your journey you will be able to collect box's of special fruit though out the islands to help you remain healthy. If you mange to smash all the fruit box's on a certain level you shall receive a shiny gem as an award. There are 26 gems to collect altogether which adds to the games excitement.

Overall I loved playing this game and would recommend it to both children and adults alike. Crash Bandicoot will easily become a play station classic. It shall always live on forever in my mind and in play station history. I give Crash Bandicoot 10/10 stars.

Easily the best of the Star Wars Prequels!
26 June 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Revenge of the Sith was an excellent movie which I saw in the cinema last night. In this chapter of the Star Wars stories the director Geogre Lucas tells us the part of the tale to which the evil Sith villain Darth Vader had first came into being. Hayden Christensen takes the main roll in the film as the confused young Jedi warrior Anakin sky-walker who due to fear for the well fare of his loved ones but particularly his girl the beautiful Padme(Natalie Portman), becomes rapped up into a strange series of events which leads him to realise just what sort of part he will play toward the future of the democratic republic. This movie also stars Ewan McGregor as Skywalker's brave Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi who tries very hard to stop him from turning to the dark side throughout the movie. These two do a great job working together. However they are both completely over shadowed by the great Ian McDiarmid who is simply outstanding as the evil Chancellor Palpatine. He is a very experienced actor and understands his role well due to already staring in some films of the classic original Star Wars trilogy namely the Return of the Jedi. I also loved the Yoda Vs Palpatine/Darth Sidious light sabre battle I thought it was breathtaking. However even though this episode of Star Wars is still not quite as spectacular as the three original episodes from the 1980's which along with The Lord of the Rings are two of the greatest fantasy trilogy's ever to be made, this is still a extremely worthy addition to the series by the talented writer and director George Lucas and has still became one of my favourite films. Revenge of the Sith is a very Superior film compared to the other two previous Star Wars prequels. This one brought back the dark fell to the movies atmosphere of all the older ones which was needed. Although I must admit that I did really enjoy episode one The Phantom Menace quite a lot, I now it was a little light hearted compared to normal Star Wars but Liam Nesson was excellent in his role as Obi-wan's Jedi master(I thought so) and Darth Maul was a pretty cool character. I thought episode two Attack of the Clones wasn't the best or as gripping when you compare it to all the other Star Wars films. However I still found episode two very much watchable and it certainly wasn't all pointless. Overall I think the prequel's were still very much necessary to the series and I'm glad Lucas made them in order to reveal to us what caused the future events in the older episodes. If Darth Vader had have featured more in the newer ones maybe they could have been as stunning as their originals. Revenge of the Sith was without doubt the strongest of the new Star Wars movies and I think it will always be remembered for that reason. The Empire Strikes Back shall always be my favourite Star Wars film though. I overall give Revenge of the Sith a very well deserved 10/10 stars.

A Great Adaption!
23 May 2005
I watched this film when it was broadcast on channel four last Christmas and I was so blown away by it that I had to buy the movie on DVD. Coming from a true fan of murder mystery TV shows with my all-time favourite series being Midsomer Murders, I can tell you this has to be one of the best detective dramas ever to be adapted from one of Agatha Christie's novels. Peter Ustinov gives a wonderful performance as Christie's world famous Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, who along with his sidekick has to solve three violent shootings on a luxury cruise ship sailing off the coast of Egypt. The story is full of red herrings, great and really well acted characters and lots of fantastic humour. It is also very gripping with a crime that is forever tricky to work out and a truly unpredictable killer gives the film a perfect ending. I would suggest to all fans of classic British Murder Myestries to see this 1970's Agatha Christie tale but you will have to be prepared to be blown away by it. I overall give Death on the Nile 8/10 stars.

Seven Samurai (1954)
10/10
A Truly Classic Piece of 20th Century Film Making!
21 April 2005
It was just last mouth that I saw Seven Samurai for my first time after reading hundreds of other good fan comments about it on this site, so in the end I became far too curious about the film and had to watch it for myself to see what the great fuss was all about and I of course got the DVD. The first time I watched this work of art I was blown away with joy and amazement due to just how super director Akira Kurosawa's masterpiece really was and I only wished I had listened to everyone else's comments on the IMDb Site much sooner. In fact Seven Samurai was so good I had to watch it again the next night to get all the brilliant scenes of this epic tale into my mind forever. Then I watched it again last Saturday and only after viewing it for the third time do I feel worthy enough to comment on this early 1950's classic. Well to start, the story is wonderful, the acting is truly outstanding, the Japanesse locations are beautiful and the script is super. Kurosawa is without doubt one of the greatest directors that ever lived!

THE STORY: I'm sure you're all familiar with the plot in Seven Samurai so I'll try not to go into too much detail. In sixteenth-century Japan a poor farming village under threat from an evil gang of ruthless bandits whose only desire is to steal their rice and barley crops every year decide to hire seven poor and hungry samurai to help train and protect them. This quest however does not seem an easy one due to having no real money to pay the fighters. Then they hire their first warrior the old but brave samurai Kambei Shimada who soon helps them find the other six strong men that they need. The farmers then head off back home to their village to await the arrival of their new guests. The next hour or so is great as we get to see the relationship between the farmers and samurai changing as they come to like each other much better and start to understand each others' differences. At first they are strangers who do not get along very well due to either, fear or misunderstanding each others' way of life. Great story lines here!

THE ACTING: The actors in this film were truly outstanding as they each brought their character to life in an unbelievable way, as they delivered to us viewers many different humorous moments, exciting and gripping sequences and some very touching and emotional scenes. My favourite character from the movie was Kikuchiyo the wacky member of the warriors group who was not quite a real samurai but appeared it was his dream to become one as he insisted in coming back to the farmers village with the other six samurai to prove them wrong about him. His character changes dramatically through the film as when we first see him he appears to be a comical person who enjoys drinking and looking for adventure, then in later scenes we start to feel for him as we learn all about his past and how similar his background once was to all of the farmers, then we see him fight bravely in the battle against the bandits, so we then realise just how worthy he is of the name samurai and of the respect of the others. Wonderful performances from all the actors!

THE LOCATIONS: The Japanesse landscapes in the movie are beautiful and create a peaceful scene to the story plus with the help from brilliant directing we get to see them from lots of different angles. One of the most beautiful pieces of Kurosawa's directing talents is when the samurai are travelling to the village and stop by a waterfall where they look down and see Kikuchiyo jump into the stream below to catch a fish for his dinner.

THE SCRIPT AND DIRECTING: The writing for this film was excellent and really made it easy for us to understand all the characters. Akira Kurosawa is one of the best directors ever who did some great movies in the past but after seeing Seven Samurai there is no doubt in my mind that this was his all-time masterpiece. It's quite sad that he will not be making any more brilliant productions like this ever again. He is well up there with all the other world famous directors.

OVERALL: This was truly the masterpiece of its time in the 1950's and is still by far one of the best films ever made even to this very day. Seven Samurai has stepped up from being a movie that I was curious about to my 2nd favourite film of all time and would suggest to all fans of classic films to see it. Overall Seven Samurai deserves nothing less than a full 10/10 gold stars.

WATCH IT AS SOON AS YOU GET THE CHANCE TO!!!!!

One of my Favourites!
20 March 2005
Warning: Spoilers
A victim of mistaken identity, Geoffrey (The Dude) Lebowski in advisably pursues recompense for the spoiling of his beloved rug after it is ruined by two brain-dead thugs who think he is the Pasadena millionaire of the same name. How on earth anyone could possibly have imagined that The Dude was a millionaire in the first place is a little beyond comprehension, but reason is not important when a movie is as profoundly funny and satisfying as this wee gem from the Coen brothers.

Never before has Geoff Bridges fitted into a role so snugly, and it would perhaps be churlish to suggest that the character made it an easy role to play, as this would take something away from an outstanding performance from Bridges as the ageing, pacifist hippie.Perhaps he may have had better pure acting performances than this, but surely this was a role Bridges was born to play.

The Dude's daily chores include trips to the supermarket to ensure he has fresh milk (which he opens and smells before buying) for his staple diet of White Russians. For Dude Lebowski is perhaps someone many of us aspire to be like.An ex-student activist turned ten-pin bowling pacifist, The Dude endeavours to take it easy for as much as possible and one fells if it wasn't for the destabilising influence of his best friend - Vietnam Veteran and Vietnam - obsessed Walter - he sure would.

On Walter's (John Goodman) suggestion The Dude decides to visit his namesake millionaire (The Big Lebowski of the film title) and ask for compensation for his ruined piece of carpet, after all, "It really tied the room together".It soon becomes clear that The Dude should have settled for a smelly rug and gone bowling.

After initially rudely rejecting his request for the compensation the wheelchair-bound Big Lebowski, through the good offices of his attendant - the snivelling and cowering Brandt - forgives The Dude for stealing a rug from the mansion and offers to pay him 20,000 dollars to act as courier when his wife is kidnapped by a gang of motley German nihilists. Really clever plot!

What follows is predictable enough, in that the Dude and Walter become embroiled in a sequence of events which become increasingly bizarre as they fail to deliver the One Million dollar ransom. What is not predictable is the bizarre characters that the Dude encounters along the way that make this comedy so much more endearing than most.Another character that deserves a mention is Donny, the hapless member of the trio who passes almost unnoticed but this is nevertheless another good piece of work from this really good actor Steve Buscemi.

So Overall this is a fine piece of work by the two Coen brothers and is one of my favourite movies I saw it when I was 13 years old and was blown away with laugher from watching this great comedy.I would suggest to all fans of Coen brothers or good comedy to see it.

So The Big Lebowski deserves a full 9/10 stars. WATCH IT NOW!!

The Young Ones (1982–1984)
10/10
Best British Comedy Ever!
16 March 2005
The young ones clearly was one of the greatest comedies ever written for the British BBC TV.Although I was not born until early 1988 which was a good lot of years after the show had ended I very soon picked up on all the shows jokes and quotes.I saw my first ever episode of The young ones about 8 years ago and just could not stop laughing. The show was set in Thatchers Britain back in 1982 in the middle of the city of London and was about the lives and times of four rather looney university students who pretty much just sat around in their dump of a flat all day and never really actually bothered to go into college. The main characters were Rik the peoples poet who was always showing off about how great he claimed he was, Vyvyan the hard man who loved to smash things up(very often their TV set if he did not like what was on the channels) Mike the cool person who was the leader of their group and Neil the always bored Hippie who was always giving off about having to be the one to make the meals. There was also the actor Alexei Sayle who played many different and hilarious roles in all the episodes.

My favourite episode of The young ones is called "Bomb" in this episode an atomic bomb lands into the students flat next to their fridge so the gang must figure out what is the best possible solution to this problem before world war three breaks out or something however something far more worse happens, the TV man calls at their door and they have just found out that Mike has not bothered to pay the Television licence. This episode almost had me in tears with laughter.Other favourite episodes of mine are called "Sick" and "Summer Holiday" which are again hilarious.

Overall the best things about this show were the humorous characters and actors, the great quotes and story lines not to mention the way they always had a famous music band on playing a cool song from the time half way into each episode. These bands included the singers Madness and Motorhead plus many more good artists. My favourite characters were vyvyan and Rik who were played by Rik Mayall and Ade Edmondson whose good comedy script writing talents went on to make "Bottom" another really good show in later years. This was a classic British show and I wish it had made more than just 12 episodes as do a lot of other fans I think and I would suggest to all fans of good British comedy to watch this show.So overall The Young Ones deserves 10/10 stars.

Dragon Ball Z (1996–2003)
10/10
Coolest Cartoon Show Ever Made!
13 March 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Hi there I first discovered this show back in early 1999 I guess when it was broadcast on cartoon network and I just fell in love with it. I'll admit when I first saw the adverts on TV I thought the show looked just like another one of those stupid over the top action cartoons like Pokemon and Digimon etc and did not expect much from the series. However I forced myself to watch a few episodes of the series when my friends all told me how great it was. So when the reruns of series one where being shown again on cartoon network in one hour specials I sat-down to see what the fuss was all about at school. It of course did take me to watch a few episodes to get really into the plot and so on but by the time I'd seen several or more episodes of this amazing action show at the most, well that was it I was truly hooked and from that very moment I was a true Dragon Ball Z fan and I only wished that I had listened to my friends advise write from the start. Utter brilliance that was the only word to describe this cartoon. Not surprising really considering it came out of Japan who are master cartoonists.

Dragon Ball Z told the story of a young earth man called Goku who in the first ever episode learns from a strange visitor from outer space who turns out to be his evil older brother Raditiz that he was born on another planet home to the strongest race of people in the universe, the mighty saiyans. Who long ago sent him to earth to destroy all the living creatures so they could take it over and sell it on the Galactic Market headed by the ruthless Emepour Frezia, but due to a head injury Goku suffered when he was a small child had forgotten his mission so his brother was sent to see why he had failed. After defeating his evil brother in battle Goku and his friends here of two other far more powerful Saiyans warriors ( Nappa and Vegeta ) who are now on their way to earth. One of which turns out to be one of the central characters in the whole show, the saiyan prince Vegeta. Now when we first see Vegeta he appears to be nothing more than an evil killer, but in later episodes he joins forces with Goku and his team of heroes in order to over come many far more evil and powerful bad guys like the evil Freiza, Cell and Majin Buu etc. Goku and his son Gohan are the true heroes of Dragon Ball Z but my favourite was always Vegeta for some reason as he always took the fighting and being a saiyan very close to his heart plus he also delivered most of this shows most memorable quotes and lines. When he and Goku fight along side each other they are truly an unstoppable force of good. Also my favourite villain would have to have been Frieza as he was one villain who we all loved to hate.

Even though all the battles do last a long time that to me made the show more real and like other fans on this page have said it was made indeed like a soap opera which kept-ed on going for over several years. I'm very glad to see that I'm not the only huge fan of this classic cartoon after reading lots of other good fan comments on this page but at the same time there are a few people who just do not get it, well what I have to say to them is if you want to give off about animated series then go and badmouth Pokemon or Digimon the true most overrated and silly shows of this century and leave this exciting, touching and breathtaking series be.

I loved Dragon Ball Z and wished it would never end but I still watch the reruns when ever I get the time when there on the TV. I have never watched a cartoon so well made or heart touching in my life. I would overall give all the Dragon Ball Z sagas 10/10 stars. Truly Brilliant!

Hopefully it'll all be made into a real life movie trilogy someday!

Pinky and the Brain (1995–1998)
10/10
I loved this Show!
30 November 2004
Warning: Spoilers
When I was a kid I loved Pinky and the Brain.Everyday when I came home from school I could not wait for it to come on in the evening. The show was about two lab mice called Pinky and Brain who every night when the lab scientists had left they would come out of there cage and try to TAKE OVER THE WORLD! Warning there will be spoilers!!

Pinky was just an idiot who liked to jump around and have a good time shouting often the one bizarre word "Narf" I have no idea what it mean't but it still use to make me laugh numbers of times.

Brain on the other hand was a pure genius who came up with many strange plots to try to control the earth. One of the funnest episodes that I can remember is one where Brain, to put the whole world into depression, broadcast on TV a film where he played a champion footballer called Brain Piccadilly who loved the game and it was his life until one day during a match he took never ending stomach cramps and was unable to play football the sport he loved so well again. This film ended with the footballers best friend who was played by Pinky of course, coming to see him in hospital where the champ tells him he would never be able to play football again. At first their plain worked as the whole world could not stop crying but when Brain went on TV to announce that he the over Lord would be their new leader,he could not stop shaking as he had got into the habit of shaking as when he was filming his story he had been moving around in a table football set and by the time they had stopped filming he could not stop shaking(I my self could not stop laughing by this point)this made the world break into laughter and their plain was failed once again.Another good episode was when Brain became Robinhood or in his case Robin Brain "A noble outlaw who steals from the rich and gives to himself" I love that line by Brain in the episode.

I do not now how any of this could have helped them take over the world but that only made the show even funnier and made me love it even more.WB made some other good shows which I really enjoyed watching like Hysteria,Detention,Batman Beyond etc they were really good but Pinky and the Brain was by far my favourite WB cartoon show.I wish they would bring this show back for another series.I may be almost grown up now but this show was not just for kids it can be enjoyed by people of all ages as it uses great humour,I would still watch if it came on TV again. This show has to get 10/10 stars.WB at their best!!!!!

The Cramp Twins (2001–2005)
1/10
Terribly Annoying Show!
13 November 2004
A few years ago when I was a bit younger, I used to not mind this show(I'm now 16). But when I saw it again last month I must say that it was just plain boring and annoying to me. It's still full of the same old rubbish and nothing has changed.

It is all about two twin brothers called Wayne and Lucien Cramp who have nothing at all in common and look nothing like each other. Lucien is like a nature boy who's always hanging round an old swamp and Wayne's like a hard man who likes playing with metal and junk from a scrap yard for some reason. They both dislike each other and are always fighting and at war with each other and after watching several or more episodes of the series this becomes really irritating and just makes you want to jump into your TV set and strangle them both.

Overall this show has its few moments but for most of the time its just annoying. I'm shocked its still on TV after three or four years now. I give The Cramp Twins 3/10 stars. There are many far more impressive kids shows on TV today, do not waste too much time on this one.

My Favourite film when I was a child!!
7 November 2004
Warning: Spoilers
When I was a child,Willy Wonka and the chocolate Factory was my all time favourite movie.I must have watched it more than ten times over the years.I'm now 17 and for some reason I still love it more than ever.

I'm mostly into grown up movies now,so I had not seen it in a long time so the other day I found my copy again and so I watched it.Its still a great film to watch even though I now nearly every word in the movie.

There may be a few spoilers

The story begins when Mr Willy Wonka(Gene Wilder)the owner of the most well loved sweet factory in the world, announces that he has put five golden tickets inside five of his Wonka Bars and the five children who get them in there chocolate bars will win a day out at his famous factory.A poor boy called Charlie Bucket dreams of having a golden ticket then one day in a corner shop he gets the 5th and last golden ticket and he takes him and his Grandpa Joe to the factory.Where they and four other children who are really unpleasant have a real wacky day.The ending is great as is the music.

Overall this is a super fantasy film watch it as soon as you can.I give Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory 9/10 one of the best fantasy films ever!!!!!

The best of this brilliant Trilogy!
29 October 2004
At Last Frodo and Sam's long and deadly journey to destroy the one ring comes to an end as they reach Mordor in this outstanding work of art by Peter Jackson.

Aragorn the true good king of Gondor has taken his place as the king and became who he was born to be in order to defend his people from the evil dark lords growing armies with the help of the land of Rohan and Gandalf the White wizard.

The battle scenes at Minas Tirith are by far the most ingenious peace of film making I've ever had the joy to view in my life of movie watching.

Back to the hobbits Frodo and Sam. I have to say that Gollum is great in this film as we get to see his true love and passion for the ring and what evil things he can really do just to steal it back for himself. As he leads Frodo and Sam to the lair of the giant spider Shelob, which was also done perfectly in filming. Also I loved the way we found out about Gollum's past life and how he first came upon the evil of the one ring in the opening scenes of the movie.

The music is Fab! I own the soundtrack on CD. The ending is very happy but at the same time heartbreaking and very unforgettable.

This is a must see movie watch it as soon as you can and if you have already seen it then watch it again as it only gets better every time you view this work of art.

This film has to get 10/10 stars. Truly Outstanding!!

I would just like to give my special thanks to the writer and creator of Lord of the Rings JRR Tolkien for making these excellent movies possible by giving us such a classic series of novels as inspiration.

This epic easily deserves its 3rd place in the top 250 films on IMDb any day. The Return of the King has now become my favourite movie of all time and to me this is the greatest masterpiece ever made in film history.

Oh and in fact I would say that this film along with the other two parts of the LOTR trilogy are ten times better than the Godfather trilogy!

Goosebumps (1995–1998)

Ahh The Memories!
17 October 2004
When I was a kid my all time favourite show was the Goosebumps TV show and of course the books as well. Some of them really scared me and give me nightmares. My favourite character was Slappy the living dummy.

I'm now 16 and I must say that the show is not at all scary to me anymore as I've watched many far more shocking things since the Goosebumps days. We all agree that the show was made for children which we all were when we loved it.

This is a really good show for children to view, but when you get older its just plain funny. My favourite episodes and books are still Welcome to Dead House, The Haunted Mask, Ghost Beach, The Ghost Next Door, Night of the living Dummy 2 and A Night in Terror Tower.

I would overall give RL Stines Goosebumps 10/10 stars as a good young person's creepy show. It will always remain a classic to me due to all the little thrills RL Stine and his wonderful book series give me whilst I was growing up.

A Nice Kids Fantasy Film. Rik Mayall is great as Fred. SPOILER
6 October 2004
Warning: Spoilers
I first watched this film when I was six years old and I of course loved it. I am now 17 and for some reason I still think its pretty enjoyable, as it brings back memories of my childhood and makes you wish that you could feel like the way you where then just for one day and see what it felt like to be young again. I am mostly into grown up films now but some child films I still find brilliant no matter how much I now them from watching them over the years, Drop Dead Fred is one of these examples.

The film is about a young woman called Lizzie(Phoebe Cates) and her imaginary friend Drop Dead Fred(Rik Mayall who is one of my favourite comedy actors and as I grew up I have seen him in other really funny shows like The Young Ones, The New Statesman and of course Bottom) in the story when Lizzie's marriage breaks up she is forced by her bullish mother to go and stay the night at her house where she refines her imaginary childhood friend Fred who her mother had locked away many years ago in a box to tray and control Lizzie's life (and by the way I was glad to see Lizzie standing up to her mother at the end) thanks to Fred of course. The part at the end were Fred makes Lizzie realise that she finally has grown up and she can run her own life now and she does not need him anymore and he has to say goodbye to her and give her a kiss and a hug is heartbreaking it made me think that it can be a wee bit sad that I'm as good as grown up now to and to think back to the old days of my imaginary friend. The last seen is good too as we see Lizzie is talking to her friend Mickey who has just found out that his child Nataile has an imaginary friend who's name is Drop Dead Fred and we then now that Fred was not just an imaginary friend he was real and his job is to help all children while they are growing up.

This is a great wee gem of a film specially for Rik Mayall fans like me.I give Drop Dead Fred 7/10. Give it a tray.
