Child of God (2013)
Is there such a thing as "downlifting?"
Scott Haze's performance as Lester Ballad is remarkable, but this film is simply depressing--unless that is, your idea of entertainment is spending 100 minutes watching a man of limited intelligence spiral into insanity after his farm is sold out from under him.
I thought my neighbour was a slightly mad, uncouth and antisocial individual, and he sounds a lot like Ballard, so maybe he's a distant relative.
Wight Space (2016)
Cast-off cast?
Not sure where they pulled the cast from in this awful, low budget timewaster but they have the acting ability of inexperienced amateurs--I'm not ashamed to say that I've seen better acting in porn movies from the guy who came to fix the pipes/fridge/pool etc.--MUCH better.
This is a bit of a shame, because the premise (in the bear future we can clearly see ghosts, and they're aware of us too) isn't actually all that dumb. Unfortunately, non existent production values , inane dialog and the aforementioned woeful acting make this one of the worst things on Amazon--on anywhere for that matter.
Dark Space (2013)
Off World or just OFF?
Off World (Or Dark Space - it really doesn't matter what this rubbish is called) is a C-movie inspired by the likes of Predator, Aliens, Lost in Space and a host of other watchable sci-fi movies. Unfortunately a nonsensical script, terrible acting, bad cinematography, poor editing and budget-bin CGI make this almost unwatchable - it's SO bad it doesn't even fall into the "so bad it's unintentionally funny" category. The best part? It's only 90 minutes long.
The Titan (2018)
So...when does the movie start?
This relatively low-budget sci-fi waste of 97 minutes ends where the movie should have been about 30 minutes old. Another one of those disappointing movies that builds up to... well, nothing.
It's all about the mutations theoretically required for a human to survive on Saturn's moon Titan. Could have been great if they'd focused on the space journey, the landing on and the problems involved in settling and maybe even terraforming a new home for the human race, but rather tried to be some kind of moralistic tale about... Ahhh who cares? Only Sam Worthington's and Taylor Schilling's moms will watch this. Taylor was actually rather good.
9/11: Phone Calls from the Towers (2009)
Final words...
At times, a heartwarming account of loved ones' last phone calls with, or messages left by, victims of the attack on the World Trade Centre on the 11th September 2001. I say "at times heartwarming" because many of these conversations give relatives some comfort, and in several other cases they are heartbreaking. A real human story of the dreadful day that changed our world.
Alison (2016)
So you don't believe in miracles?
Alison's story shows the viewer the worst and best of human nature - and in no uncertain terms. Graphic, disturbing and emotional, Alison's incredible story is required viewing, but viewer discretion is definitely advised.
Soupçons (2004)
A difficult series to watch, a difficult man to feel sympathy for...
Michael Peterson has a problem - well two problems actually. His wife is dead, he says from falling down the stairs and repeatedly hitting her head. Amazingly, the couple's best friend had also died in remarkably similar circumstances several years previously, with Michael and Kathy bringing up the victim's two young girls after the tragedy.
In what is almost a painfully long series (it's well made, but not exactly a thrill ride) Michael's character is put under the microscope, as is the honesty and expertise of the prosecution's expert witnesses. Michael is a difficult, outwardly unemotional character that is difficult to like or have sympathy for, but his treatment during this case by law enforcement officials, lawyers and even his own family members is deeply questionable.
Fascinating but overlong, this is a serious indictment if the US Justice system and its practises.
