Lost in Translation (2003)
An Existentialist Movie With Purpose
The first time I saw "Lost In Translation," I found it to be dull, pointless, and rather alienating. However, after having watched it again a few more times thereafter, I finally saw the immense beauty of the film. Bob Harris and Charlotte, the main characters of the film, are in search of meaning...of a translation. They want to know what their lives translate to...what their purpose is. As the two find themselves hopelessly lost in their search, they discover each other. They find out that sometimes there is no certain definition to life and that those who try to define it find themselves losing its essential meaning. I think that's the beauty of this film...the message that so much is lost through translation...so much of the real things in life are overlooked in the process of trying to understand them.

The Greatest Romantic Comedy of All Time
It will make you gasp, laugh, cry, scream, sing, and love. This is the greatest comedic love story I've ever seen on the silver screen. You will never forget this movie, from its playful beginning to its OMG-what-just-happened ending. For those of you who don't speak French, you do not need subtitles to understand the beauty, the depth, and the tragically hilarious love affair of Julien and Sophie. The movie will take you to every extreme of human emotion and leave you completely breathless with its UNBELIEVABLE ending. I was so entranced by the film that I sat there through the entire end credits, hoping for just a little more. This is a movie you cannot miss...it is one of the greatest films to be made in France. Watch it....I dare you. Are you game or not?

The Only Michael Bay Film I Enjoyed
Warning!! Spoilers!!! This movie was simply one of the most entertaining action films I've seen since Matrix first appeared. The whole cloning aspect playing off the recent controversy with stem-cell research gives this excellent movie some depth, which most action films lack. Ewan and Scarlett were amazing as usual and quite underrated as usual. The only major errors in this film are its title and lack of good advertising. Its a bad idea to name a movie after something that doesn't exist no matter how philosophically or romantically sophisticated it sounds. And the fact that you fed the audience the entire plot in the trailers was not a good move either: people who think their in utopia find out they're in a dystopian cloning facility and escape and run around in some metropolis that looks like downtown L.A., creating havoc everywhere they go. I loved the highway scene with the falling train wheels, but the whole scenario seemed a bit too matrix-esquire. Nevertheless, this was a great film by an, otherwise, action-addicted director.

Disturbingly Good
Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance is one of those movies that focuses more on the psychological aspects than its visual. I was horrified when I saw this film, but that is how I knew it was a good film. Very few films these days impose such emotion and feeling that is produced in Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. The goal of movies is to inflict upon its audience an emotion, a reaction, a sensation. And most movies fail to achieve this goal because the audience does not believe in the story and therefore cannot feel anything. Hollywood has this way of making things too perfect or coincidental. But Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance intrudes into the minds of its audience without effort, transporting them into the sick reality they are watching and imposing on them a genuine feeling of fear, sadness, anger, and sympathy. It's almost as is it weren't a movie, but a disturbing reality show. Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance is not a pretty film; it lacks music, color, anything that is visually appealing. The true beauty of this film is its story, its effect on the mind, and its ability to impress upon us viewers an overwhelming sensation...sympathy.

ASTOUNDING
I came across this film while I was flipping through the channels on my t.v. This is truly an astounding film. The inimitable dialogue, the dazzling scenes, and most importantly the profundity of its premise make this film unforgettable and worthy of sycophantic obsession. I was completely enraptured by the brilliant acting. I believe this is Steven Spielberg's most noteworthy film. His other movies pale in comparison to this one. John Malkovich and Christian Bale are incredible as usual, but in this film they bring to life a story of a boy who loses everything due to a country trying to conquer everything. The physical and mental destruction of war and the injurious effects of loneliness are very clichéd themes, but this film conveys them in an incomparable way. This is undoubtedly one of my favorite films, and I suggest that everyone take the time to watch it. It would be exceedingly foolish of one to not watch it.
