Rhyme Animal (2007)
8/10
Rhymer and DJ work their way through the NY Hip-Hop Scene to make names for themselves and their causes
26 April 2007
First of all, this movie is outstanding. The concept is brilliant and music was fabulous. Instantly I recognized Shiva as the Poet from OZ (on HBO). He had that similar drawl that made him an instant classic there. In Rhyme, he steps up his performance by adding Rapping to the mix. And let's just say that you can't fake rapping. He was excellent. I don't want to blow the ending but let's just say it creeps up on you and then sort of hits you in the head..oh and one of the best parts of the movie is the animation. Kinda giving it an added Frank Miller (sin city) type touch to specific sections of the movie - I don't want to spoil it.

If you have a chance to check this movie out in a series of shorts, DO. I am sure that if entered this movie will make it into many festivals. the production value is great....so maybe look for this movie at the LA Shorts Fest or LA Film Fest or a fest near you....

Enjoy

very good movie with high production value
12 February 2006
I recently saw this movie at the DAM Shorts Festival in Nevada and I have to say that I was thoroughly impressed. A) the concept was great. B) it was well executed C) the editing, lighting, set design, wardrobe and acting were all top notch.

The movie explores two deceased people in purgatory who can peep in on their old lives through vintage television sets.

The SET DESIGN was phenomenal. think an apt from Seven. Dirty, dusty, and grimy. The fact that these two people had to remain in the same wardrobe for the entire movie was also awesome. The wardrobe continuity was great. All the way down to the food stains on the actors clothes.

Without going into any plot issues I would like to say the following: The most important aspect of this piece is how it lulls you into it. It begins as a Sci-Fi Thriller and ends up being a coming of age/drama movie without you even noticing. That takes the work of a smart moviemaker and I believe that this movie will be a calling card to bigger and better movies.

Interesting look at a Horror Short
12 February 2006
I recently saw this movie at the DAM Short Film Fest in Nevada, and I have to say that the concept and production value were great. Especially the score.

Additionally the editing stood out as very clean yet paced well with the movie. Anyone looking to make a short horror movie should check out this piece to see how music is instrumental in telling a story, especially horror with the timing and pacing of the scares so to speak.

The sound design was also well done as is needed in an effective horror movie. This movie shows what can be accomplished with a short. The only item that is a drawback is that while this is a good short movie I am not sure if the movie would be able to be expanded. I know many shorts are calling cards for features but in this case the movie speaks for itself, but doesn't leave room for a feature length movie.
