You Can't Kill Stephen King (2012)
The trust of the innocent is the liar's most useful tool.
"People think that I must be a very strange person. This is not correct. I have the heart of a small boy. It is in a glass jar on my desk." Stephen King
I wasn't expecting a great script, good acting or direction or even groundbreaking fx. But just at least one of three things that can save a movie like this and make it great or just plain fun.
Humor. Check? No, i'm afraid nothing funny happens in You Can't Kill Stephen King. There are attempts of humor, but all fails.
Violence. Some original killings, good practical effects or a high body count. Check? Well, not at all. The body count in this movie is low and the the killings are just lame, nothing really interesting in the practical effects arena.
Nudity. Check? There are three great looking girls in the movie. They're hot as hell. Yet, no nudity, just light nudity, the kind you can see in a Disney beach movie (there is such thing? i don't know, i don't care).
All in all, it's a very bad flick, not a single second of fun. It's well made, has a nice HR photography, but that's it.
Unless you really into HR photography or like to see great looking girls in bikinis... don't watch this sh*t.
And, by the way, i don't think anybody involved in this movie was a real Stephen King fan.
Carrie (2013)
It's pink, Mama. Wait, no, it's red... so very red.
With a female director i was expecting more focus in the emotional aspect and lot less blood. I was expecting a more "pink" kind of movie, exploring more the teen anguish angle and feeling and stuff. Wrong. Lot's of blood. In the end, the things weren't so pink, Mama.
I used to think that the reason why remakes are bad was because they don't respect the original source. I was wrong. Carrie respects the original like hell, only brings some modern elements to that universe. Even so, end up being a weak movie.
It's hard not to compare the Carries. I like Chloe Moretz a lot. But she doesn't convinced me as a shy teen with issues. Her voice is pure confidence and she is adorable, cute. Sissy Spacek was so convincing in every scene. And no actress will ever look as good as she did covered in pig's blood.
But wasn't casting the great mistake here. I think the biggest mistake here was the overuse of Carrie's powers. The great thing about the original was that at a certain point you would forget you were watching a movie about a paranormal girl. The original focused more in the teen anguish and the excitement for the prom. A underdog girl having her day at the sun.
Sadly a woman director decided to forget the feelings and focus in blood. And delivered one of the most tasteless moments of creative freedom. The final scene is tasteless and unnecessary, unnecessary like Sue's pregnancy. But that final scene alone doesn't ruin the film at all. It's just a bad way to finish a weak, yet effective movie.
It's not a bad movie. Although the last scene were ridiculous, it didn't ruined it. I liked the blood, but i wouldn't mind more focus in the characters. Carrie entertained me, but i have to say... the original was so much better.
Pacific Rim (2013)
Very expensive snoozefest
I'm not sure how i finished this movie. But i did, and i want my life time back. I had fun in the first 10 minutes or so, but after that just downhill.
Its a awful movie. Boring and stupid.
There's this character: Mako. She wants to be a Jaeger pilot (or maybe not, she is so strange that is hard to tell). Then the movie goes like this:
Mako: I want to be a pilot. Pentecost: No, you cannot. You taking things too personally. Mako: OK. But can i be a pilot? Pentecost: No. Mako: Please. Pentecost: No. Mako: Please. Pentecost: No way, bi...h! Shut your mouth. (So, a little later) Pentecost: You can be a pilot, i was just kidding. Give me some sugar, girl.
Well, the dialogs wasn't exactly like i described, but wasn't so different either. Believe me, good part of the movie is about Mako wanting to be a pilot (or maybe not) and Pentecost keeping her from it. And then allowing her to be a pilot out of the blue.
Interesting aspect of Pentecost explanation about why Mako shouldn't be a pilot was that she had personal reasons and that would be a problem. Like this aliens are destroying the entire planet, but Mako was the only one with personal issues with that? Strange, right? At that point everyone there should have personal issues with the Kaijus, its just common sense.
There a lot of problemas with every character. And the acting isn't very good as well. The plot was terrible, not even worth to mention.
I was expecting to witness great effects. Well, they're great. But dumb. The Kaijus weren't very convincing, too fast, too flashy, too boring. I started to miss the little Japanese girls inside rubber costumes (way better and more fun to see).
So, the movie is full of flaws. Its boring. Has more defects than i could list.
Sorry my bad English. Its not my main idiom, but i love it.
Kick-Ass 2 (2013)
Amazing
I remember when i watched The Avengers in theater. I was bored to death. The Avengers is not fun at all. KickAss 2, by other hand, is all about the fun.
I loved KickAss 2. I didn't like the first so much, so i watched this one without expectations. But even if a had gigantic expectations it wouldn't matter.
Jim Carrey was funny as ever, it was good to see Donald Faison again. All the character were interesting and fun, ridiculous but coherent to the movie spirit.
The final was amazing. Mother Russia vs Hit Girl was epic. By the way, mother Russia was some villain.
Well, thats what a comic book based movie should be all about. The fun. Not care so much about the most realistic outfit or the most expensive effects, but instead to bring fun and excitement.
I hope for a KickAss 3 in the same fashion of this one. Fun till the end.
Sorry about my bad English. Its not my main idiom.
