John Mulaney: Baby J (2023)
Had to give 7⭐
I would have given a higher rating if not for the seemingly endless "Al Pacino" phone call skit. That was not funny at all, and it went on and on and on. But everything else was really good. My husband and I had a lot of fun watching this. I think my favorite skit was when he "misunderstood adult dating dynamics." Don't want to spoil anything, so I'll just leave it at that. Probably not the funniest part of the show for most people, but it had me laughing hard. I think the Al Pacino bit is my only complaint.
Some of these skits were pretty brilliant really, in my opinion. Some were too much of a stretch, but they still work if you're not a nit-picker like me.
Not quite as good as Comeback Kid and the other Netflix one, but definitely not a disappointment in the least.

The Last Man on Earth (2015)
The humor is so great! (A lot like The Office!)
I'm pretty picky when it comes to shows and movies, but I just love this show. The humor is so original and even though it's a bit crazy, it's kind of relatable. Phil is an awful person, but he cracks me up. I often find myself laughing because the characters do or say things that I would picture as being funny before they do it. So it's very satisfying. It reminds me of The Office and how awful--but completely lovable--Michael is. I look forward to the laughs in this show just like I did with The Office. I love this show. They did a great job at making me dislike the main character, but think he's great at the same time :)
The Babadook (2014)
Sometimes the unseen is better left unseen.
My husband and I had high hopes for "The Babadook." It seemed like a good horror movie without the Hollywood bloat. It didn't have the typical all good-looking, young cast. This made the movie much more relatable and enjoyable. In order to not give away any spoilers, let's just say we were not impressed with the sudden CGI that came out of nowhere and ruined our image of the Babadook. Sometimes the unseen is better left unseen. Definitely in this case. The sounds were scary enough! Also, we're not fans of movies that leave their endings open for interpretation. We want to see their story; not make up one. Or maybe I just didn't get it!
On a better note, the main character was a great actress. And although we felt nothing but annoyance for the boy throughout the beginning-- which I assume was the director's intention--he grew on us.
This would have been a great horror movie--almost up there with "Sinister"--if they hadn't ruined it with unnecessary computer imagery. Then it just became laughable. I could even maybe accept the ending this time around if I wasn't already so turned off by the CGI.
Boyhood (2014)
So much potential wasted on this movie.
I'm giving this movie 3 stars out of 10, and each of those stars is strictly because the movie spans 12 real years. Besides that cool fact, "Boyhood" is incredibly lame. Actually, it's pretty much boring. And it's so long... it drags on and on. My husband says it was like watching a non-humorous "Seinfeld" episode- --the movie was really about nothing. So maybe if you like that kind of thing then you'll enjoy it, but I like some "umph" in my movies, you know? So kudos for the awesome 12 year journey, but I wish they would have done something interesting with the story. So much potential, but it didn't deliver. I honestly don't see how it could be so huge and well- liked beyond the 12-year production fact.
So much potential wasted.
