Fallen (1998)
An hidden gem
(Don't mind my bad English, it isn't my first language)
I don't write reviews often, but Fallen has gotten me. I never heard of this movie before, and wow how surprised I was! I like horror / thriller movies like this, scary without scare jumps or gore. The omnious atmosphere, I guess. This movie reminded me of 'Deliver us From Evil', which I also loved. But I think I liked Fallen more.
I love the cast of this movie. Denzel Washington as a very convincing John Hobbes, John Goodman as the loyal Jonesy, Donald Sutherland as the stern Stanton. James Gandolfini (with moustache!) as Lou (great character) and a minor roll for Embeth Davidtz as Gretta Milano, I wish she had a bigger role tho.
Anyway, a few notes: Halfway through the movie, detective John Hobbes start wearing a white shirt. And thanks to the contrast, it looks like he is glowing. Which kinda fits the impression that Hobbes is sort of a holy dude; hench why the demon couldn't posses him by touch.
Another aspect of the movie which is stuck in my head was the relationship between Hobbes and his younger brother, Art. Art is a adult man with a young kid, but It looks like John needs to take care of him. That isn't weird perse, but I've got the feeling that it has to mean something in the movie I just haven't discovered what.
Another thought: Could it be that John Hobbes' name is inspired by the philosopher Thomas Hobbes, which wrote the book 'Leviathan'? Not really relevant, but just something I thought about.
The ending was just magnificent, the throwback to the first lines of the movie.. Very surprising till the last second. I have to see this movie again, because I think there's a lot I've mist the first time.
Retfærdighedens ryttere (2020)
This movie has a LOT going on
There happens a lot in this movie and it made me do a lot of things. It made me laugh, it made me cry and it let me think. I do not often write reviews on IMDB but this one caught me by surprise. Went blank into it, never even heard of the movie but it was worth it. Great movie, a bit weird at times - but that's good.
A Dark Song (2016)
Best horror movie IMHO
To be frank: I do not like horror, but I've seen a more than few scary movies since my partner loves them. One day she suggested to look A Dark Song, I sighed and said yeah sure.. But man, what a blast! It is so dark, so omnious, so scary but without the cliche jumpscares and stuff. And did you know the Abramelin Ritual is a real thing?
Tldr; I hate horror but I loved A Dark Song. Great music too.
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003)
First review ever
This is my first review ever. I've seen this movie twice. First, a few years after release and I rated it a 7. Decent movie, not a lot of action but overall fine. Now, a decade and a bit older, I've seen it again and rated it a 9. It's - in my humble opinion - one of the best historic movies ever made. It really depics how crude life on a warship could be (not that I've been on one, but I've read some books about it). I love the themes this movie covers: Choosing the lesser of two (we)evils, leadership and patriotism. I just love this movie and I recomment you to watch it too.
