Creep (2004)
CREEPY, FREAKY HORRORS ARE BACK!' A few flaws'... 'it takes us back to the good old 70's/80's way of Horror-with a modern take! PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ! Cheers!
Creep: What can i say!
After reading the majority of reviews about this film i was a little reluctant to pay money to watch it. However being a Big Horror fan (and being an Englishmen who wants to support his country by spending money into our already good Film Industry) i thought i'd give it a go. So we went to one of our local Cinemas on my partners birthday(Feb05)and bought tickets for the 10pm viewing.
At the start of the film i was over-half expecting to be majorly disappointed.
HOW WRONG WAS I!? - OK!It was flawed in parts, (the same as a lot of Horrors-inc some of the great ones) but more than made up for it throughout the course of the film.
AGAIN...you more than likely already have read about (or seen the trailer) the storyline to this film. So this is just my account-my opinion to help you make your mind up. I try to give an honest/reliable view - without being too biased.Like some reviewers who don't look at all aspects-good and bad of a film, and write a true account of what they have seen!
ANYROAD!..... In my opinion this film is long over due. It has some suspense, bags and bags of creepiness, quite a lot of gore (inc. one or two rather sickening scenes...especially if your a female!)
Its NOT a simple 'slasher' film, and its NOT about big busted American college girls (who have recently lost their virginity's) being murdered. (In fact the main character 'Kate' comes across quite sluttish at the very beginning)
Its a pretty simple storyline-which all the way through leaves the possibility open for a couple of sequels. In fact- a sequel to this film would work in my opinion. (With some more explanations and history about the first) As long as they keep it true to the first. (They could do it as though it is a long two part film-like the 'Kill Bill' films)
The setting is brilliant. More horror films should be filmed in England. We have just as creepy places as the Americans.(We even have the bonus of all our castles, places like Stonehenge,rugby/football grounds (our local rugby ground and stands are quite creepy) There's endless possibilities. Anyway BACK TO THE FILM!...
It sounds good-especially through Dolby surround. The sometimes shaky camera work, works well.
The director also attempts to show how ALL people are equal. From the more upper-class people of England, to the homeless folk living on our streets. How when it comes down to it-we are all human and are capable of helping each other...no matter what our preconceptions are.
There are a few faults, i will say that. However i feel the setting/atmosphere/creepiness/gore/sound etc take your attention off the flaws. A lot of people have slagged off the ending of the film-but according to the relatively new director, if sales of this film can cover the cost of it, and generate some spare cash-he would like to make a Creep 2. Therefore the ending to this Creep-leaves things nicely open for a smooth continuation for part 2.
More and more people need to help support our British films-as throughout our film history, we have come up with a number of HIT films. We have some brilliant studios and brilliant locations. (Not forgetting some excellent actors)
We might not be as glamorous as 'Hollywood', but we have what it takes.
We should be proud of this film as it delivers everything Horrors have been lacking over the last decade or so. It takes us back to the 70s/80's - when Horror films were creepy, made you jump and talking about them for days afterwards (especially if your unfortunate enough to live in London!)
Really good Horror, which has suspense, Creepiness, story and more. A few flaws - but no where near the amount of some recent 'Horror' films. Well worth a look - and definitely worth grabbing yourself a copy when it makes its DVD release. (Especially if you appreciate a good horror) The director has done well- and so have all the (none famous) actors.
If you do like this - please check out (Death Line) 'RAW MEAT' starring the great-late Donald Plesence.
GOOD TO FINALLY SEE A DECENT HORROR THAT CAN MAKE YOU JUMP IN PARTS AND HAS MOST OF WHAT YOU WANT TO SEE WHEN WATCHING A HORROR.
PLEASE DON'T FAULT THIS FILM WITHOUT TAKING INTO ACCOUNT ALL THE GREAT THINGS ABOUT IT.DON'T JUST GO OFF ANY OF THE BAD THINGS SOME OF THE OTHER REVIEWERS SAY-GIVE IT A GO IF YOU Haven'T ALREADY.YOU WILL BE Pleasantly Surprised!
A MUST FOR ALL HORROR ENTHUSIAST AND FILM LOVERS ALIKE.

Tiger Warsaw (1988)
Avoid if into Horror, fighting genres etc - WATCH - if you have a sensitive side, and want to enjoy a refreshing story/film, with a brilliant performance by Swayze...
I kept seeing this film in my local video shop and was never sure what to make of it. So, i never bothered until the other day (Feb 2005) I went down to my local video shop 'Global Videos' (A National video shop-UK)and found myself a copy on DVD (They only had 4 copies left) I like Patrick Swayze - and feel hes under-rated as an actor. I bought the DVD mainly out of curiosity and the fact it was only £3 (Pounds sterling) (Just under 6 American Dollars i think!) ANYWAY!THE FILM! Patrick Swayze (who appears to of done 1-2 films, every year (til 1997 when he took some time out) straight from doing the Hit film 'Dirty Dancing' and a classic for me - 'Steel Dawn' in 1987 comes his first film of '88 'Tiger Warsaw' Some say this was a complete change of the typical role Swayze normally portrays-but i have to disagree. Just like the two films mentioned above-Swayze takes on a character that appears to be hard on the outside - but sensitive, and caring on the inside. (Johnny in Dirty D was this cool, rough around the edges dancer-until Baby reveals the 'real' Johnny - same with 'Steel Dawn' Nomad was a warrior a soldier, hardened by the war. Lost everything he cared about and loved - a fighter. Until he makes it his mission to play peace keeper and protect the farm)
In 'Tiger' the hardened, 'bad boy' side to swayze's character happens mainly 15 years prior to the present day in the film. 'Chuck 'Tiger' Warsaw' was a 'bad boy' (a bad seed as he is called in the film) and everybody knows it. He was into drink and drugs - and stealing. Without revealing the plot too much- 'Tiger' does something bad involving his own family and leaves town. During the first few years he dives into drugs and booze even worse than before until finally he goes into Rehab. During the 15 years since he left town, his family have tried hard to forget him and get on with their lives. Even tried to convince themselves 'Tiger' was dead. Fresh out of re-hab-'Tiger' returns to the town he ran away from 15 years ago. In the vein attempt to get his life back and sort it out with not only his friends but his family. Drug free - and t-total. However 15 years is a long time. Can he ever be forgiven for what he did before skipping town? After all- everyone he loved would rather him be dead. This film is outdated- i admit. But the emotions are still there. Even 17 years on - there will still be people that can still relate to this film. It might not have quite the same impact as it could of back then (as we live in a hardened world) But this doesn't stop us from feeling for the characters (Especially 'Tiger') who long for love, forgiveness and to take everything back to before the events of 15 years ago. Swayze does really well in the portrayal of 'Tiger', and proves to us how deep his acting skills really are. This film wont win any 'Best film of the century awards' but if you enjoy all FILMS (not just pacific genres eg.Horror, fighting, action etc.) you will appreciate this. Its refreshing, NOT a chick flick, just a film about real events that happen in the real world-emotions, family, love, pain, anger even lads with a sensitive side can enjoy this film.
NOT for the action/horror etc lover - but for those with a sensitive side, and enjoy a refreshing true-to-life story. It can tug at your heart strings if you let it - especially if you've experienced similar things in your own life. (Family break-ups etc)
AVOID if you don't understand the appeal of sensitive storys and films. GIVE IT A GO- If you want a refreshing story/film in comparison to modern films, and if you enjoy sincere performances by Patrick Swayze.
Its cheap enough to get a copy on DVD -why don't you give it a try. Make your own mind-just as i did. I personally enjoyed it-and feel an updated-modern approach/remake to the same story- would do well. (Keep Patrick in it though!)

Misery (1990)
A brilliant Thriller-Brilliantly Cast-Brilliantly Acted-Brilliantly Directed-based on a Steven King masterpiece...need i say more!?
Once again, a brilliant Novel from the legend that is Mr Steven King. I feel this film version really does do justice to Mr Kings work. The director has brought the novel to life, and has created an extremely thrilling and entertaining film. He also did extremely well with regards to casting Kathy Bates as the freakish and obsessed 'Annie Wilkes' You couldn't find anyone else who could of done the job (and fitted the role) even half as good as Kathy did! Brilliant. In fact, i think all the actors fro the other characters were perfectly cast for this classic film. There's not much more i can say-that other haven't already put...Except i strongly recommend you watch this film if your into thrillers. One or two disturbing scenes (one in particular), so be warned! The film is directed brilliantly with a great screenplay based on yet another Steven King masterpiece. There is really good character development throughout the film-and you actually feel for main character 'Paul Sheldon' as he is held, helpless by his 'number 1' obsessed fan 'Annie Wilkes' If you haven't seen this yet...get a copy. You will enjoy it-if you like Steven King/ a good thriller/ Brilliant acting and good work by the director. Fantastic for those rainy/Snowy!nights in! A must for any collection!

The Village (2004)
You'l either love it or hate it...i hated it!Not what i expected at all!
I'l keep it short and sweet WHAT A MAJOR Disappointment! Especially after the other films by the directer. Looked forward to watching this film-when i finally did, was extremely disappointed and gutted about wasting my time watching it. Its a film you either Love or Hate...i hated it! Don't take other comments seriously (good or bad) my advice-just watch it and make your own mind up. Don't expect too much though-coz you wont get it!Like i said-you will either love it or hate it...simple as that!If your a horror enthusiast (like myself) don't be misled by the trailers-otherwise you will be disappointed also. Trys to be cleaver and sincere-it didn't convince!Good idea-shame it didn't work!
Sorry but 2/10!
Steel Dawn (1987)
Maybe slightly cheesy...but easy going and enjoyable...a fairer review than others!...
I disagree with most of the other comments on here, as i throughly enjoy this film-and have recently acquired it on DVD to replace my video version.Granted it may sound and look a bit dated (after all it was made in the late 80's) I think people can get a bit too serious about films and picky-i love films (in fact iv'e always fancied myself to be a writer/director)Can't people just enjoy the film, however simplistic it is? Without expecting too much? Especially from an 80's creation.
Steel Dawn is a nice and easy to follow film-perfect for those weekday nights or when you don't want to watch something too complex that takes a lot of concentration.
It follows the story of Nomad (Swayze) who lost his squad of soldiers during a war. He now roams alone in the sandy wastelands, still wearing his tired uniform with pride. He meets up with his old mentor (who is now a peace keeper, and witnesses his murder) He ends up taking on the role of his former mentor, and heads to a valley of farms to act as peace keeper. The main landowner (Damnil) rules the valley with intimidation and fear, and is in search of a rare pure water supply-located on one of the other farms (hence the need for a peace keeper)No one is physically strong enough or capable of standing upto him-or his army of men.(thats why Damnil had a contract taken out to kill the former peace keeper before he reached the valley-but he wasn't counting on Swayze turning up! From then onwards the film flows nicely following swayzes attempt of being accepted and trusted by the people who have gave him shelter-to trying to keep the peace the only way he knows how-fighting. The film keeps you watching from start to finish (just to see what Swayze does next!) The ending is superb...predictable maybe, but a good end to a good film.
There are some hidden things in the film-such as Jux (a boy living on the same farm as Swayze) trying to over-come his fathers death-by looking upto Swayze as a role model.Plus the friendship growing between Swayze and Tark. ANYROAD! Iv'e gone on far too long! I feel even though 'Steel Dawn' maybe a bit cheesy and outdated, and sometimes predictable-it is simply an easy going, enjoyable film. With sword wielding and fighting to keep action seekers occupied-to the growing love story between Nomad and Kasha.(the person who's farm hes staying on) The story is meant to be simple-and don't forget the fact it was made in an era of cheese (the 80's!) overall though worth watching-maybe not as a Friday night 'film premier',but when you just want an easy going film to fill the gap. I certainly recommend it 8/10
Expect cheese...expect simplicity...expect an 80's made feel...and you'l end up enjoying this easy going and pleasant classic Swayze film ...
Dirty Dancing (1987)
I'm a straight MALE and i love this film! This film oozes with Energy!
I'm Male-and yes i am straight! but this doesn't stop making this film one of my all time favourite films!I'm also convinced i'm not alone! I know for a fact there are blokes out there that either admittedly or secretly enjoy watching and love this classic film! (Not just English/British men-but men world wide!) and rightly so...nearly 18 years on, and this film is STILL watched and enjoyed- world wide, and people are still able to relate to it.I know all the words i've seen it that many times! Most of my dance moves i use for work-are taken from this film! There's so much energy. In fact it is my firm belief, if people were brought up thinking watching these types of films are deemed as 'cool' and OK to watch the world would be a slightly better place to live.An enjoyable film that doesn't make you want to go out into the world and cause havoc and heartache-do drugs or get into gun crime (coz its classed as being 'cool')this films makes you want to find a girl-that you can love and feel that special feeling felt in this film.It also makes you want to go out and enjoy yourself by simply Dancing! It's free,Legal and makes you feel good-while keeping you fit and healthy-not forgetting FUN! In my opinion, the films main two themes are 'LOVE', the true love story between Baby and Johnny (Jennifer Gray and Mr Swayze) (compared to Baby's sister's relationship-where she was just used for sex) plus classic Music. Yes music! The type you can really dance to! Every song on the soundtrack is fantastic! In true cheesy Dj style, i still play all the old classics from the soundtrack (especially 'Time of my life')and is still goes down a treat every single time! You just can't stop yourself! Anyway-everyone has wrote hundreds of reviews, and has pretty much summed up this film and explained the story...all thats left to say is....
If you haven't seen this film yet...go treat yourself, buy the DVD (you can get if for an average of £5 or less (British pounds) Roughly 9 American Dollars (i think!)It's well worth it, and highly recommended.
If, you enjoy the film-please go out and buy one of the 'Dirty Dancing' soundtracks- especially the Ultimate Dirty Dancing (released in the UK 2004 in celebration of the films anniversary- as it contains all of the songs and is digitally remastered. (I got my second personal copy from the British supermarket 'Tescos' for an amazing £6! (For anyone 'Up North' try 'Music Zone' as its only £6 in there too!
Anyway-cheers for taking the time to read this-i'm sorry i went on a bit! If your planning on seeing this film for the first time...enjoy! And as everyone else has said-very cheesily! Try and have THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE!
I will go as far to say 10/10. Highly enjoyable-with lots of energy. Makes yo wanna move like Swayze and Gray!
Exit Wounds (2001)
Brilliant action film from the start!
What a film! One of my fav action films of modern time. DMX out plays and out acts Seagul in my opinion. Which is rare to see from rappers who turn their hand to acting.Don't get me wrong though, Seagul does deliver. Seeing as though the other reviews have pretty much got everything covered about this hit film, i won't go on too much! Some excellent music (if your into the rap/hiphop scene) inc the main soundtrack by DMX himself (An interesting cover with a rap angle on it of Bill Withers/Al ????'s 'Ain't no sunshine') Which i think is a really good version (and i do love the original as well) The rest of the cast have been cast carefully and all actors are perfect for their respective rolls. The acting is above-average (Seagul mainly concentrates on his fighting technique as usual, however DMX is fantastic. Really good story line of corruption within the police force. Good Cops, bad cops sort of thing. Highly entertaining from the word go-right to the final scene. With a fantastic music score, flashy cars, fantastic fight scenes(both from kung fu master 'Seagul' and rapper 'DMX')to its pretty good storyline.I'd give this film 8 and a half out of 10.
If you haven't seen this film yet-I'd highly recommend you watching it on DVD as the extras (Deleted scenes, making of,behind the scenes and music video) are also all highly entertaining. Best viewed and heard through a 5.1 surround sound set up, as it enhances the film and its action further through its quality sound!
I'm sure one of the other reviewers have told you about the story line so this is just about my personal thoughts on this highly entertaining film! Definitely Recommended. (Also:- Training Day and SWAT as part of the cop/action collection) ********
Retribution (1987)
One of the best original horrors produced!
Retribution may look a little bit dated compared to up-to-date films, with it's cheesy 80's feel, but that was just the sign of the times.Dawn of the Dead by Romero, is just the same in the out-dated department-but anyone who's seen it will agree it's still one of the best Zombie films to date! Retribution still has an un-beatable original story-line. It is a little known, rare classic. If you enjoy the horror genre, and have not yet seen this classic- try and get a copy. It is an absolute must see for ALL horror enthusiasts.Well recommended. Everyone i have shown it to was well impressed. It's a treat-especially with todays appalling excuses for Horror films. I really do highly rate and recommend this film, and so does everyone i know.
