Depicts the flawed nature of human behavior. An offbeat movie.
15 April 2016
First of all, FAN is not a regular Bollywood movie, where the hero falls in love with the girl and sing songs dance and romance, it is far different from it.

But, first things first. I want to express what FAN isn't.

1. This is not a movie where you'll get motivated, like we all did in CHAK DE.

2. This is not a movie where you'll enjoy the dance numbers, cos there aren't any.

3. This is not a movie, in which you'll come out of the movie hall happy.

4. This isn't like the recent few movies of SRK which were mediocre.

Then what FAN is?

FAN is an offbeat psychological motion picture which depicts the flaw in human nature, the Egoism, the abuse of power, the lack of human nature to let-go unfavorable things in life and to just move on.

I think SRK has outdone himself through Gaurav's character. The biggest trick SRK and his team has pulled off is making the audience believe that Gaurav and Aryan are two different people. At any point of time the thought that Aryan and Gaurav are the same do not cross your mind.

While Gaurav Chandna is the USP of this movie, SRK pulls off a masterpiece through Aryan Khanna. In the second half I felt very uncomfortable and disturbed by watching Aryan Khanna mistreated by his fans, a cop and a rich man. This itself is a win for SRK and the FAN team. The characterisation is so good that at times you feel for both Gaurav and Aryan and at times you hate them both for their misdoings.

But, being said that, this movie is not perfect, but far from it. Director Manish Sharma fails to answer some questions. As in, where was Gaurav for 1 year before ending up in London and how a simple cyber cafe owner learned to hack into servers to get entry to a show as a journalist.

Also at times you don't feel the bg music is natural, you'll feel they have been forcefully put there to amplify the experience of the audience.

But, with all its flaws this movie is an incredible landmark in the history of Bollywood for its special effects and the acting of SRK himself.

The best part of the movie is the Climax. I just sat there at the end when the movie ended awestruck, sad, disturbed about the Climax. Very emotional and psychologically disturbing ending it was for me.

Go watch it for SRK. This is a very unique gem in the string of offbeat movies of bollywood. Now looking forward for Raees.

A killer AXE matures to become good, a good TREE evolves to become SINISTER!!
21 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
"The axe forgets, but the tree remembers".

There are two types of people in this world. The first type mourn for sometime after struck by a tragedy and move on with their lives. The second type, evolves to become tragedy themselves. Raghav/ Varun Dhawan is the latter in this disturbing movie called Badlapur.

This movie throws plenty of ethical questions at you. Which becomes really difficult to answer under the circumstances, and it becomes increasingly difficult to assess who is the protagonist and who is the antagonist.

Raghav gets struck by a shocking tragedy, from which he fails to recover. But, he evolves into something heinous, something SINISTER. He commits few acts which are considered to be menacing to the human race. But, he must commit them, for the purpose of his life had now changed, from a loving father and a doting husband he had now transformed into a dark, rather a very dark REVENGE seeker, a monster, a psychopath.

Layak/Nawaz loots a bank, but while doing this crime, commits a very EVIL act, this one act pivots the lives of many people in the future. This one act evolves a GOOD TREE into something SINISTER. But, the problem is, the AXE is punished for its mistake. Both, by the law of the land and by the forces of the nature. Yet, it has to suffer the wrath of the SINISTER TREE, which in the first place was turned into sinister by BALEFUL act of the AXE.

At the end of the movie Layak will be indulged in making a chair. While doing so, he will have a satisfied look on his face and his soul, for he knows that he has been thoroughly punished and devastated for the crime he had committed. The irony here is an AXE whose job is chopping down the tree had matured into something good, something which can create something new, even if it was a chair which it had learnt to create, but from a destroyer it had now become a creator.

DISTURBING: This movie contains few disturbing scenes, which can haunt you for sometime. When i say disturbing, i mean the kind of feeling that you got, when/if you have seen Anurag Kashyap's movie UGLY's climax scene, where you get to see the rotten dead body of a beautiful little girl. But, these scenes make this movie what it is.

This movie is a perfect launchpad for Varun from a happy-go-lucky college going kid into a serious engaging actor. Nawaz was brilliant as always. The rest of cast does a pretty job too.

Sriram the director does a fine job. Screenplay is good. Script is good. This is a very rare movie delivered by Bollywood. Now i will wait for the Blu-Ray of this movie and watch it again and try to answer those ethical questions which this movie shot at me when i watched it the first time. 7 *

And Bollywood delivers a rare gem!!!
23 January 2015
If you are a Ek tha tiger, Dhoom 3, HNY, Bang Bang fanboy/girl, do not watch this movie and do not read this review either, it's just not for you.

Akshay Kumar do not need to romance hot girls, do not need to dance and sing, do not need to do melodrama to deliver a hit movie, he had shown us this back in Special 26, he has done the same here in Baby. The cast is a perfect one and there are no flaws.

MOVIE: It has everything a good espionage thriller need to have- 1. Good cop bad cop routine 2. Cute chick beating the pulp out of the bad guy 3. Super cool combat scenes 4. No unnecessary sentiments and drama 5. Some brilliant dialogues 6. few laugh out loud scenes 7. It focuses on modern warfare--an indirect one--proxy war, which is much spoken about in reference to India in recent times 8. Kick ass background score 9. Cool Spy v/s bad guys 10. funny Akshay Anupam Kher duo

On negatives: Yes even i think the movie was a bit lengthy, if the director had trimmed it 10-15 minutes it would had been great. Yet, this movie is a rare feat. Bollywood rarely delivers movies like this. Its a must watch if you like sensible movies. And regarding the negative reviews, just do not pay any heed to them, for THIS GEM IS NOT TO BE MISSED. Neeraj Pandey as a director has done a brilliant job.

A Collector's Movie! A proud movie watcher.
4 October 2014
Amazing, terrific, mesmerizing. Have just one thing to say about this epic, "JUST GO AND WATCH IT". It is really a life time experience. Do not miss this gem. Buy this in Blu Ray and show this to your kids and grand kids. This is definitely a collector's piece. This one goes into my shelf with other epic's like The Godfather trilogy, The Dark Knight trilogy, Scarface etc.

I have given this movie a 10 on 10, which it easily deserves. As for the acting, all the characters sizzle with their performances. It's the conflict in their characters which makes the movie gripping. May it be self consuming hatred of Shahid for his mother and uncle, poison minded Tabu, greedy Kay K Menon, innocent Shraddha, purposeful Irrfan AND last but not the last 'THE SNOW' which has its own role throughout the movie, they all SIZZLE ON SCREEN and give a lifetime experience.

Vishal the director has proved with this movie that he is perfectly capable of producing world class cinemas. The best thing is the songs do not break the flow of the movie. They are catchy and Aao na is perfectly picturised. Where as Bismil signifies terrific story telling skills of Vishal Bharadwaj.

This movie should be appreciated and given a standing ovation.

A good light-hearted Sunday afternoon movie, with gf/bf :)
15 March 2014
OK, first of all i see many people massacring this movie. I can understand why. This movie is only for a specific set of audience and not for all. If you are a Chennai express, Jai ho, Dhoom 3 fan you'll probably end up hating this movie. But if you are upto something light- hearted then this is one of the best which Bollywood can offer. I do not want end up giving away details of the movie. The storyline is pretty common one, a love story which we all can relate ourselves to. Music is pretty good. It goes well with movie. Raghu Dixit has done a good job with bg music. Now about performances and characters, Rishi Kapoor was too much adorable, he has something new to offer in this movie, a "Disguised Villain". Ayushman Khurrana seemed as if he continued his role from Vicky Donor, which is a good thing. Sonam Kapoor was a eye candy, she looks gorgeous in this movie. Verdict: Go for it. This is a feel good type of movie. I enjoyed Bewakoofiyan!

Beats many Hollywood Psychological thrillers!
26 November 2013
I gave a standing ovation to this movie. But, unfortunately, Lucia did not get the amount of appreciation and love it deserved.

REASON: Wrong Audience. Our Kannada audience loves mass movies. But Lucia, is a psychological thriller which leaves you awestruck at the end.

When last 10 minutes was remaining, the movie had already started to wrapping up itself. At this moment i wondering whether the director can give an ending this movie deserves. And my god! i was so much amazed by the ending of Lucia.

Truly deserves a 5 star! Beats many Hollywood psych flicks. Never miss this kind of cinema.

Made me cry.
12 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Being a guy i had never before cried after a movie, at least not when i was sober:) The lead is both funny and emotional at the same time. The daughter is very cute. The mother is damn selfish. I can relate myself to this movie in so many ways, i hope you can too. My mother tongue is neither Mexican nor English but i loved this movie just too much. I think Valentin Bravo deserved much more in his life, but its just life being stubborn. When the movie ends you will understand Valentin's sacrifice, bravery and why he tried to keep his daughter in the fantasy world. At the end of the movie Valentin's every decision is justified. Valentin is a true hero!
