Wrapped Up in Love (2021 TV Movie)

Waste of time
26 December 2022
It's ok to once in a while "waste" your time by watching a sweet Christmas movie. Mostly these are feel-good, have decent actors and they don't require your undivided attention to understand what's going on. You relax and let them entertain you.

But this one is so cringe-worthy that it almost hurts.

There is no chemistry whatsoever, the female lead desperately bulges her eyes while trying to establish a connection with her opponent.

In vain!

The story is weak; in some parts even illogical and it takes quite a while before it reaches the core of the plot. Boring!

One of the worst movies in its genre.

2 stars because the main problem lies with the writer, giving the actors hardly any chance to shine.

Refreshing - a little gem in its kind
24 November 2022
Eight stars probably is a bit overrated, but IMHO this movie is more fitting today's moral values and behaviour than the common cringe-worthy, über sweet and often hypocritic Christmas movies, which as a standard end with the first and only kiss (and then claim the main characters are in love.).

It acknowledges human needs and desires without becoming graphic; what might have occurred or is going to occur is merely hinted at.

Although the story itself is average, good actors and clearly noticeable chemistry between the main characters (not even mentioning Ava the cute dog, which role has meaning) made this movie quite a stand-out: rising above ground level,

Weird but interesting
19 June 2022
Being from an small European country, some things are foreign to me.

Homeschooling is non existent here - even kids from rural environments - like farms easily cycle 8 miles to school, or are collected by bus when they're smaller. Covid lockdowns did put a lot of stress to household's sanity over here.

We've got our Bible Belt with categoral schools, but those are also present in the big cities. I think that the possibility of keeping your kids away form the modern world is hardly existant here.

I feel for Ethan; he he's a good soul, but rather childish, which doesn't help much being tied to two headstrong women. The other elder children will find their way more sealy eventually I guess.

What I'm surprised about is the fact that the eldest daughter is never mentioned, except for once when the mother wanted to set up facetime or a conference call to her because she was expecting.

I get it that she isn't part of the show, but that noone ever drops her name seems strange/illogical to me.

I'm at S3E05 now and curious what will happen next.

A Winner
16 April 2019
Bull is running its third season now, and I still am not tired of it. It's like a fresh shower compared to what the massive amounts of other crimi's bring to the table.

I like how cleverly it's written: its pace, the diversity of subjects, the attention for personal drama, and the humour. The cast is good; the role of dr. Bull fits Michael Weatherly to a T; you can almost feel the joy with which he performs this character role.

What I - and this may be personal - value immensely is the smart use, or rather lack thereof, of background music! It never overpowers the spoken word. Thank you makers of these series. 💖

I do hope dr. Bull has a long breath!

What were they thinking? Bad - bad -bad
22 September 2018
102 Minutes of clichés; it is not even remotely funny. Seldom seen such a bad movie.

How do they get well known actors to play in such an embarrassing piece? Skip it!

Slow paced British thriller
19 September 2018
Pleasantly surprised by this production. Refreshing location.

It always takes some time to get a good understanding of the plot, but it is not too obscure. People do strange things; in how far the double marriage is realistic is the question, but they get away with complications in this scenario. I enjoy the slow pace, which is not boring. IMHO typically British.

The acting is good; perhaps the Chinese actors are a bit too much typecast. Looking forward to episode three.

@Khun Kru Mark I understand where you come from; but I think that every country suffers from the same handicap. i.e. amount and quality of actors. I'm Dutch and our country is a lot smaller than GB, hence we have even less actors. Same faces everywhere.

Switching locations: apparently to indicate that there is a relation, which may become clearer in the long run. It didn't bother me. :D

In 2018 - "old" but good
26 July 2018
At the moment I'm binge watching the series backwards. (mid season 3 now) Qua characters, It's nice to see "old acquaintances" back again. I love the concept and stories, a great variety of subject matters.

What I especially love is the choice of music: wonderful oldies coming by - a treat on it's own.

If you're looking for for decent detective series, with skilled actors and excellent supporting songs, this is the series for you.

I don't have a clue
12 May 2015
To put this review in perspective, you should know I'm Dutch (Netherlands, Europe). English is not my native language. When I read the summary of an episode, it seems okay, maybe even interesting, but when I'm watching it, the NA accent distracts me in an uncomfortable way. To me it doesn't sound like a general "southern" accent, it feels exaggerated, like a foreigner who purposely in an unpleasant manner would characterize how Americans speak.

Especially when Lucas Black speaks, I'm so obsessed with how his mouth moves to perform those noises, that the story line disappears to the background. If there would be subtitles I'd turn off the sound.

Is this done to please the locals? Obviously not. I read the review of "household137" (s)he writes : Quote: "... and it PAINS ME that this series (which I love and watch regularly) is making us look like uneducated loud mouth pigs. Please - come uptown and take a census of LOCALS, have a LOCAL help you with the dialect!! We DO NOT talk like that unless your're from Mississippi. PLEASE! I LOVE my city and would LOVE for the series to continue and for us New Orleanians to sound like the intelligent up and coming tech community that we are! Thank you!"

isn't Harry Connick Jr. from NA? He doesn't seem to have much of an accent. I really like to hear different accents; I find them interesting and I respect everyone, but IMHO in this case it's too much and it undermines the show.

The Christmas Secret (2014 TV Movie)

Sugar sweet, and too predictable
25 December 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Might contain spoilers!

I like feel good movies; it's inevitable that a lot of those are just a pleasant way to pass time - get over your Christmas-Eve hangover or enjoy as a family. No intelligence required.

That's OK, but but this movie is insultingly transparent. At the moment you see Christine look at the photos in the bakery, you know you've solved the mystery.

What bothered me too, was the unnecessary but seemingly inevitable for this kind of movie, appearance of the ex-husband, claiming custody. Then the way both Christine and her love interest reacted on being stood up; they both didn't seem to be bothered too much - weird. Not to speak about the clumsy way the locket was lost - my-oh-my is this movie made for 4 year old?

Regarding the fact that you know beforehand what you're up to, when you select a movie like this, and that the acting was not too bad, it get 6 stars, but 4 for the plot would be more realistic.
