Watch the Sky (2017)
WASTE OF TMIE
Seriously, many student films are better. Really bad camerawork and direction. We fast forwarded to get to the ending, but should have kept going.
The premise was interesting enough, (teens science experiment inadvertently attracts the attention of the army and aliens) but low budget or not, the lackluster ending knocked any chance of two stars for this one.
I was willing to forgive what was probably one of the first acting jobs for most of the cast. But at least one of the camera operators needs to go back to film school. Really bad composition of some shots. Enough that it distracted this viewer. I'm surprised PRIME picked it up.
Rocketship 7 (1962)
BREAKFAST WITH DAVE, PROMO AND MR. BEEPER
As a child of the '60's growing up in Toronto, no weekday morning was complete without watching Rocketship 7. (I am trying to think if he had the diver in a tank or whether that was Commander Tom in the afternoon...it's been more than a few decades, lol).
This show was a lot of fun, and had short cartoons to keep us amused. It was kind of sad when I had to leave it behind for that school thing.
Dave was the friendly host, and I liked him.
Shag Harbour UFO Incident (2000)
CANADA'S BEST KNOWN UFO CRASH?
It was October 4, 1967. A night of weird things appearing in the sky from Quebec to Nova Scotia. An Air Canada pilot sees something out the cockpit window and reports it while flying to Halifax. Residents of Shag Harbour, Nova Scotia witness something crash into the ocean. A mysterious yellow foam appears than no one can identify. Official investigators from Canada, the U. S. and reportedly Russia look for not one, but possibly two craft? Was it a submersible UFO?
It's not like everyone had film cameras with them or recorders back then, so I can forgive the "re-enactment/drawings".
I went looking for a show about this infamous Canadian UFO moment in time, and this documentary didn't disappoint.
Gemini Man (2019)
Really bad green/blue screen.
Oh come on... the cast wasn't even there. Really bad chroma-key.
Into the Woods (2014)
A Never Ending Story...er, Song.
We knew this was a musical. We just thought it would be like a musical "Maleficient". Don't go all "it's not Malificent" on me, because the trailers/commercials make you think it IS. (There's no singing in the commercials, you'll notice.) The songs all sound the same. Sure, some of them are "rounds" and it's kind of interesting how the lyrics weave the various stories together, but there's no break-out "Circle of Life", which for a Disney flick is a mind boggling no-no.
Johnny Depp's scenes are creepy and not in a good way. We're still trying to shake the Princes' waterfall duet from our brains, despite Chris Pine being charming. We were longing for Pierce Brosnan to come in and help Meryl Streep out for some comic relief.
Such a promising cast, but the musical fell flat. Don't go into the woods. Just don't.
