A Grandpa for Christmas (2007)
Family dynamics
I came from a broken family, which left us with very little to hang on to, so when I saw this movie I was totally amazed at how it treats the subject with great heart, understanding, and compassion. Ernest Borgnine does an excellent job as Grandpa. I was so used to seeing him in some really nasty roles, and yet some very friendly roles, as well. Here, he accepts his Grandpa role with dignity and a lot of patience. The other characters, in the movie, make everything tie in together, with their cooperative spirits. They each contribute to the connections, that place. This makes a great Christmas family movie that everyone can watch without fear of sex, violence, etc. I gave it a 10. I wish it could have been more!
Secret Santa (2003)
A story with heart
I began watching this movie several years ago, and try to watch it each Christmas. Sharing it with family, and friends, is great, too. I've seen some of the actors, in other movies, and in other roles, but they seem to come to life, in this movie, as though they wanted to get the point, of the story, across to all who viewed it. I've seen many other Christmas themed movies but this one has touched on something truly meaningful; something that the general viewing audience could benefit from, not just to see a movie, but to see one with the true meaning of Christmas. This movie has all the heart that is necessary to prove that there are still "nice" people, in this world. Those who want to brighten other people's lives without receiving a "pat on the back" for a good deed, are still out there, not seeking glory, for themselves. It sets a good example, to all of us, that we should follow this premise, and think of others and not just of ourselves. This can be done at other times of the year, as well, and not just at Christmas time. I enjoy watching this movie, every Christmas, as a reminder of that fact. God bless the ones who made the movie, and those who took part in it.
Anchors Aweigh (1945)
correction
I noticed one of the reviews stated that Kathryn Grayson was the mother of Dean Stockwell. In fact, she was his Aunt, in the movie. It has been interesting watching Dean Stockwell's career, and his various roles, as he grew up. It is always fun watching Jose' Iturbi, and seeing him, at the piano. His sister, Ampara, seems to be in quite a few of his movies, as well. I have a CD of old radio shows, which feature stars, such as Frank Sinatra. On one of his shows, Gene Kelly made an appearance and they presented several spots, from the movie Anchors Aweigh. It was funny listening to them, trying to recreate one of the dance sequences, from the movie.
