Based on a True Story (2023)
$20 I'll never get back
Disjointed, over acted and illogical, this series was a real disappointment after paying $20 for it and downloading it. Since Prime doesn't offer a single season 1 episode 1 purchase, I guess you are stuck with a bait and switch on this one. It feels like the production was trying to be like the 'Flight Attendant" series that Kaley Cuoco is known for, but they missed the mark entirely and completely underestimated their audience. Those of us with a brain and some taste in film can see through the silly theatrics, overreaching and bad acting. Too bad your can't get a refund on digital purchases on Amazon like you can products.
Enlightened (2011)
How did I not know about this???
I just recently came across Enlightened in a search for a high quality TV Series airing on Amazon Prime. When I saw that the fabulous Laura Dern (as well as her mother Diane Ladd) were starring, it didn't take long for me to begin viewing... and then I couldn't stop; I literally tore through both seasons. THANK YOU Mike White and Laura Dern!!! Thank you for recognizing that there are viewers like us with good taste who desire and crave great writing, producing, and acting. This is a truly outstanding series that is funny, engaging, authentic, emotional, uplifting, and deeply touching. Please consider producing a 3rd season! Or at least work together again, your collaboration is pure magic!
Ricki and the Flash (2015)
A Waste of Brilliance
I am in utter disbelieve that this move got released the way it is – didn't they watch it before they released it?? I imagine they started out with a good screenplay in order to attract that caliber of actors, but it is really shockingly poorly produced and directed and quite seriously insults my intelligence as a viewer. I feel like the scenes are written for a 5th grader smoking pot and, unfortunately, it just gets worse and worse as the movie goes on until it finishes with an ending that was so bad I couldn't even look! I'm just so embarrassed for the truly accomplished and brilliant actors in this film. What a waste of talent.
Beach Pillows (2014)
If you have good taste in movies - you will LOVE this film!!!
Wow - I can't believe this is Sean Hartofilis' first film ever! Bravo!!!
This is a wonderful story about friendship and late 20's coming of age. The character development if full bodied and the story line surprising and impressive.
The movie is as real and witty as CLERKS....
It is as touching and heartwarming as JUNO....
The script is as engrossing and as rich as GOOD WILL HUNTING...
The incredible acting (Vincent Katheiser - wow!) is as powerful as GOODFELLOWS...!
To the producers and directors....Thank you for making such an excellent film. There IS an audience for quality films like this. Here we are!!
Walk of Shame (2014)
If you have good taste in movies you will not like this
The director and producers should be taking a 'walk of shame' on this production!!! From bad acting, inconsistencies, ridiculous story line to very bad directing, this is truly one of the worst made films I have ever seen! Just when I thought the scene, script or dialog couldn't get any worse, it did, and then did again, and then again!! OUCH! It was so hard to watch! Even my husband whose taste for movies runs to the crude slap stick juvenile type comedies couldn't stand to watch another minute of it before we turned it off half way through.
I'm scratching my head at some of the rave reviews this movie has received, truly scratching my head!
The Conjuring (2013)
Don't watch this alone! (seriously! : )
I've always been a fan of scary movies... from a young age my favorite shows were 'Creature Feature' and 'The Night Gallery'... so I can't say that I scare easily; however, I watched this movie alone one night while my husband was out of town, and I was scared out of my wits!!! (in a good way... I highly recommend this movie). This is the best psychological thriller that has been made in years.
This is a great film. It is extremely well made, well written, and well acted. It is based on a true story and, while I know that Hollywood takes great latitude with the 'true story' films in adding drama, I don't feel this one went too far at all. Only enough to skillfully depict what a truly frightening this experience must have been to those families who were involved. Trust me... it will take you there.
Delivery Man (2013)
Wait a minute.. isn't this the EXACT same movie as "Starbuck"?
Literally... the exact movie, theme, and plot! Except Starbuck is a much better version (if you don't mind reading the subtitles, it's worth it). Since both were released fairly recently, I'm surprised by the blatant and obvious copying of the original screen play and wonder if the producers had to buy the rights to do this? Or maybe this is a bonified "remake". In any case, where Starbuck was charming, authentic and even believable, I found what I watched of Delivery Man to be a sillier watered down and disappointing version. I would rent Starbuck, you will enjoy it. Here is the link below. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1756750/
Seven Psychopaths (2012)
Falls Short
With a stellar cast like this, you expect something great, or at least good.... however, this Tarantino wanna be film falls short of expectations and leaves the viewer perplexed, bored, and disappointed.
The scenes were a little disjointed and hard to follow. The humor and satire, although very clever and funny at times, overall fell flat. There were a few lines that when you caught them made you laugh out loud.. but not enough of them and not not written in a cohesive enough style to work.
The high point was Sam Rockwell's performance which was powerful, convincing and funny, but otherwise it kinda sucked.
