Star Trek: Picard: The Last Generation (2023)
Spock would have turned around in his grave if he saw this
Star Trek has always been a sci-fi series, which strongly followed physics or physical theories at least. And logic for the turn of events.
Well, until this final episode, i would have rated the whole Picard-show a good 6 or 7. It had it's flaws, some pretty big, but still, i'm a StarTrek and TNG fan and it was doing okay and overall entertaining. But the sheer amount of unlogical stuff in this last episode was far beyond where no man has ever gone before.
Really hard, unlogical, unlikely to happen, jumps from left to right and so on. Awful. Plainly awful. But well, if this has a 9.5 rating actually, i may not represent the major target group.
Mother! (2017)
this flick had a promising start for the first half ...
... but then, the only word that has come to mind now several times was just: stupid!
In this movie, i first thought it would be a nice paranormal horror-thriller with some of my favorite actors. Yey! But then, one unbelievable event takes place after another.
/Spoilers
Several ppl come to worship the great poet, but actually, they all just don't admire him. No. They all totaly misbehave and tear down the house on all levels. Like, this would be some kind of normal behavior for visitors. First, there comes a man. With his familiy. All misbehave, disrespect and burn down the house. Time passes, she gets pregnant, and then, a mob comes along and the same thing happens again. Well this time, more tearing down the house.
I thought i was watching a mix from dusk till dawn where a normal place just suddently went crazy, and american pie. No, really. Just one word: Mega stupid!
Wonder Woman (2017)
dull and boring
Gal is cute and sexy, so it was not a total waste of time ...
Maybe i should just sum it up what happend ... (spoilers)
There are some tough women, living on a hidden island no one else can see or find. Allthough, from time to time, random planes and ships can just sail in. I do not know, how these ships can keep up with a plane, but well, they can. Also, i do not understand, why these german soldiers are all on jollyboats on the open ocean, while the big ship is later capsizing with no reason given. Maybe the hardcore WW I Plane ?!? What do i know.
Anyway, there is this cute and sexy gal, which turns out to be a godess. Yet, no one knows! And because noone on this magical hidden island knows, she shall not be training for combat (on an island with just female soldiers ...) Also, there is a magical weapon in a tower called "the godkiller". Actually, WW itself is the weapon and the godkiller, but how would anyone know?!? She also has a magical armor which reflects bullets like ironman. Thats cool. Imune to gas and stuff as well. She doesn't know what sex and icecream is though ...
So basically, she and her amazon friends know nothing about the world they are living in, just the tiny paradise island which no one ever found by accident in the past x000 years. But she decides (not knowing her powers) that she needs to help humanity against the evil god.
Therefore, while peace negotiations are underway, they decide they can no risk that the evil use their inhuman weapon. So they jeopradize the whole peace process because ... sorry, this is so utterly stupid i can't keep writing.
The whole german setting is totaly ridiculous. Reminds me of Wolfenstein computergame with that garbled female scientist, that awesome kinda superweapon monster plane and the superman gas which gives superpowers. Speaking of the plane ... who WOULD NOT set a timer on his bombs which he loads on a plane?
Serioulsy, when you have gas and are evil and stuff, you would put that gasbombs in many smaller planes and just drop them where you need the enemiess dead, right? But here, the whole production in one oversized futuristic plane, and with a x minute timer., so Pine has to sacrifice himself as a true hero to save the world ... oh sweet lord!
And the god of war, who has powers beyond imagination, rather plays games over decades with the evil humankind so they turn on each other, instead of just killing them with his super powers.
If this nonsense doesn't bother you, go ahead and watch ...
The Big Ugly (2020)
first gtave it 2, then reduced to 1 star
Hey, i'm sorry. I can't really think of anything in this flick to give it 2 stars. The description says something about an oil deal and mafia. The oil thing is completely irrelevant for the whole plot, so is the "mafia".
The story is not about oil and stuff, it's just about someone killing the wife of someone with no reason, and then some bartender rents someone her car for no reason, and the parents shot each other after 30 years of friendship for no reason and so on and on.
There is no character development, no angered Vinie Jones or anything. Just old guys running or driving through west virginia. Totaly boring.
Rambo (2008)
pointless, exaggerated massacre
Well, i guess most of us saw the old and orginal Rambo movies. And we all watched some other action movies. But when exactly did the writer think, his audience would be to silly to see, who is the good and who is the bad?
The first half of this flick is just filled with the bad guys just slaughtering unarmed farmes for absolutely no reason. I stopped watching somewhere there after the 125th village was burned down for no reason ...
100% Wolf (2020)
Boring
Went there with my 5 old son. He enjoyed his first cinema visit ever, but did not tell anything about the movie afterwards. And I fell asleep 3 times during this movie. Just boring.
Hunter Killer (2018)
Mega stupid plot, also totaly predictable and with bad acting on top ...
I love submarine movies, but this is one is probably the worst i have seen so far.
Well, first, the acting wasn't good at all. Maybe because of the stupid script, but i had like 15 times during any dialouge where i wanted to cry and shout "And now? that's it?"
I'll give you some examples:
- Any dialog between Buttler and the russian Captain. WTF?!? They were awful to watch. The russian captain moving his hands like a prophet over the map without saying a word ...
- The scene when the russian president realizes it is a coup ... omg the whole dialouge ... catastrophic.
Overall, acting was bad. Dialouges were very bad, no tension creeated. No answers given, no questions asked ...
The whole story ... Murmansk beeing infiltrated by ...
no. It's just too much to write it all down.
Just don't watch if your IQ is above 60.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
One of the best ST Series ... until S2E14 ...
... in which Star Trek by Gene Roddenberry died.
(This review is about S1 & S2)
Well, there is so much to gush about Discovery. It's kinda darker, more brutal and the characters are so adorable. Burnham is just awesome, so is Georgiou, Lorca and Pike; all actors played their role perfectly. The captain of any ST-series had always a great impact on my approval. Avery Brooks and Patric Stewart gave DS9 and TNG the kick, and here we have allready 3! Michelle Yeoh, Jason Isaacs and Anson Mount wich i all love in their specific roles.
My voting so far would be 8 or 9 out of 10. If there wasen't this last episode in season 2 (such sweet sorrow Part2). And because of this one episode, i'm not sure if i will continue the series. I just hope this was a mistake, but i fear it will go on like that. Because once you have ruined the Star Trek universe, what will stop you to keep on going? Especially if this episode has 9 out of 10 stars.
Spoiler
What i mean specifily is the following:
In all the series, TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager, ENT or the cinematric movies ... have you ever seen a spaceship fight going on longer than 10 minutes? Even in ship to ship battles, the shields were depleted after several phaser and torpedo hits. Even on flagships like the Galaxy class. Not so here. We have like 10 ships vs. 2, tons of shuttles and drones (yeah, you heard right. This is not EVE online or battlestar Galactica, it's Star Trek!) and the fight is raging on for nearly half an hour, with shields depleting in slow motion. Star Trek was always about capital ships, not like Star Wars with fighters and stuff. Not to mention the control AI which controls all of these 10 starfleet vessel and shuttles and drones remotely. Not to mention how Leland got all these crews from these ships. Did he kill all of them, and the generals and officers who would most probably disagree?
Speaking of Leland ... an AI which takes over a human being and morphing him into a Terminator (Jason Clarke - Terminator Genisys) which can't be killed? I mean, ok ... it's science fiction after all. I can live with that. It's barely conceivable, but it doesn't destroy the movie. Quite the opposite is this whole spacefight. Oh, and the story with that torpedo!
So, there is a photon torpedeo which did not detonate, but was stuck in the hull of Discovery. I guess it's the first torpedo in starfleet history, but well. It's also not shaped like an armor piercing shell, more like a casket, but it penetrates the armored hull. Very well. But starfleet is aware of the fact, that these photon torpedoes tend to be blinds, so they have a mechanism wich detects that, and starts a timer so it will detonate 15 minutes later. Oh yes, like all good terrorists do. And it can't be disarmed of course, it's a bomb after all. Not a torpedo. If this 15 minute timer is defective as well, will there be another 30 minute timer? Well well, i can live with that. It's scifi after all, right?
But now, we have that door, which also can't be closed automaticaly. Only manually, and of course, only from the inside. Ok. And this door is so strong, you can't stand right behind it and get no harm. 1/4 of the saucer module is blow away, but that door! Wow! Mindblowing. And of course, this torpedo can't be disarmed, it can't be freed, it can't get beamed out. Neither can Admiral Cornwell.
Leland (control) get's defeated, so there would be no need to go into the future to hide the "undestroyable" data ... but well.
If discovery will continue like this, the star trek created by Gene Roddenberry is dead.
Star Trek: Discovery: Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2 (2019)
ST: Discovery was awesome ... until this episode
I really loved watching the series so much ... but it got nearly destroyed in this one episode. And i even don't know where to start ...
Startrek was always shining because it was logical, relied on facts or at least scientific theories. This here was a version of Star Wars or BSG directed by J.J. Abrams just in another universe, messing it up completely.
I just hope i can forget seeing it so it won't riun the complete series for me.
Lost in Space (2018)
Not bad
Beeing a Sci-Fi fan, the whole setting alone was worth watching the first season. The only negative smack are all these logical failures throughout the whole season. But i guess that is hollywood these days.
- Jupiter 2, hit by fragments without damage, crashed hard, sunk, and still in working order. Sure ...
- Eels sucking out all the fuel. Not only the Jupiter2 which was in the water, no. All of em on the whole planet.
- A super advanced robot without any instinct of self preservation, just following every stupid order someone gives him who saved his life.
- Water freezing in seconds, still raining, vegetation ...
- Moreen Robinson sitting all alone in the control room while the mission with the last chance (number 325) to leave the dying planet is live, giving dr. Smith the opportunity to knock her out ...
- Mr. Robinson and Mr. West surviving an explosion of their spaceship in space
- the most fearsome predator on this planet is totaly blind and can only hear, but his ears are so weak that he cannot hear a human beeing breathing 30 centimeters below him ...
It's crap like this that mdae me rate the series only 5 stars, but after all, it's still Sci-Fi ;-)
Fury (2014)
Is this some sort of spoof? Or is it Star Wars in a WW2 scenario?
First of, "Saving private Ryan" was an awesome movie which i rated a flat 10. This one here seems like a parody of it. At some point, i couldn't stop laughing out loud.
The story: Was there one, except for being all heroic and killing tons of enemies against all odds? The Message: Pitt was all about telling, that there is no space for mercy or feelings in war during the whole flick. In the end, a evil German SS soldier was the only one showing some. Odd.
Realism: This was so ridiculous, that i could laugh at least. So that is the reason why i gave it 2 points instead of 1.
First of, those shots that looked like star wars laz0rs. Amazing! I wondered the whole movie when Darth Vader would appear out of the fog. I guess that should just be tracers, but they went blue and red and all science fiction. Nice touch ! :D - At the beginning, you will see the US tanks advance to a camouflaged German anti tank fortification. Of course, the Germans had not some ordinary PAK, it was the notorious eight eight. Two of them actually. The situation: M4 Shermans advancing open field to a camouflaged position. The 8.8, who have so much penetration on long range, wait for the Sherman's to close in like 300-500 meters. Then, of course, missing or bouncing all their shots. While the Sherman's just shot in some trees and kill. Sure thing.
- Later on, we get a fight between a Tiger and 4 Shermans. The Tiger is also equipped with the 8.8 anti tank gun. But like total idiots, the Tiger rushes in close range on 4 Shermans. Why not use fog or something, i could believe that 4 Shermans managed to outflank a Tiger and kill him? Totally stupid.
- Last battle. A demobilized Sherman is facing 200+ German SS soldiers. SS soldiers, the elite German kinda marines, right? Not some inexperienced Volkssturm stuff with mainly kids in it. And again, the Germans approach the disguised tank without caution. Pitt and his crew wait until the troops are all around the Sherman. Not that it would make any sense to let enemies come so close. Usually, you would have opened fire when they were like 50-100m away in front. Nah, they waited. And the German elite corps just runs like chicken in all directions. OH MY GOD! Not to mention the stupid dialogues like "hey, this is the best job i ever had". Which Pitt actually said before this last battle started, and they were going to die. *facepalm* Not to mention all firing stopped, once a crew member of the Sherman tankers died. Like "hey, the Germans know one of our comrades just died. They are nice lads, so they stop firing so we can bring up stupid dialogues to the audience for our fallen, heroic friend".
If such a movie gets 7.6 stars average, then Hollywood is doing everything right. Just keep on with no plot, no realism. Just special effects and superman and you are fine ... :(
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
It has happened before, it will happen again ...
I didn't know anything about the story of Star Wars VII. And at first, it started pretty promising. Well, of course we've already seen some desert planets in Star Wars, but the setting with all that destroyed star destroyers, the AT-AT walkers was awesome ... there sure was a story to tell about this battle. But it didn't.
Instead, we got a promising Yedi apprentice on a barren desert planet ... AGAIN! Hello star wars IV + VI. A droid having some plans ... We have a nice death star (this time a super death star) who destroys some civil planets and of course the rebellion ... AGAIN! Useless to say, we need a small gang of fearless rebells to take down the shields from the inside/surface while the fleet gets slaughtered until they do ...
And to make things worse, we also have a new, very unique father - son relationship, where the good one wants to rescue the evil one from darkness, leaving an open end to the fate of the bad guy. (Did we also had this in some star wars before? Unsure ...) Well, at least we know for sure what the plot of star wars VIII to IX will be, don't we?
