Saving Venice (2022)
The problems for Venice is fluid...
Most informed travelers will know of the gates called Mose, but the future problems beyond this fix are literally quite fluid. This documentary gives a wonderful insight into the complexity of the existence intact, going forward for Venice and the millions of tourists that travel there each year. In todays world of high tech via electronics (DaVinci was high tech without electronics), it was interesting that use of the past can help identify the current and future problems faced by Venetians. I thought I knew what was the problem and that Mose would solve it, yet due to erosion the situation continues to evolve...it is quite fluid.
I would recommend this documentary to all young and old.
Il legionario (2021)
On a tightrope
Initially and along the way, I was concerned with the admitted bias of the film maker. I was partly disappointed that the fact Italians have been the most generous towards illegal immigrants and refugees was being thrown out for the sake of the odd right wing extremist member.
The fact remains no one asked these people to come, no one needed them to come and certainly no one needs them to stay. If not for the generosity I mentioned earlier, they wouldn't still be coming in many hundreds.
The rights of these people (economic migrants and rarely refugees) does not outweigh the right of the legitimate owner of the building to have them out. Never.
In the end the right decision is made. That's why on reflection I raised my rating a star.
We Are Who We Are (2020)
Waste of time , to make and to watch
Poor acting, weak storyline, unbelievable in what's going on, with exception of typical hospitality shown by Italian couple sewing military uniforms.
I struggled to keep watching it as the actions and reactions continued to frustrate me. Reading so many comments and agreeing mostly with their criticisms, I have to wonder how the rating got to 7 (at time of writing). Maybe it is a sad reflection on society that "teenagers" find this gibberish worth a score above 5 (at best with even a very accepting mind).
Oh well I suppose that's why instagram, twitter, facebook, tiktok draw so many people in...the capitivation in mindless stupidity.
Manuale d'am3re (2011)
De Niro almost killed the movie
I found this movie, the third of a series, a bit underdone...let down by De Niro and saved by Verdone and Scamarcio. If there's one thing I can't stand it's that so called "great" actors like De Niro are not able to even learn a few words in Italian. Yes he's supposed to be American (even though he's a professor haha) but in real life as in the movie, his lack of the language ability just adds to my low expectations of him. This overrated actor almost killed the movie.
Flight (2012)
Drinking and taking drugs to mask it - improves your performance
A pathetic message comes from this film, and an even worse (is that possible) the inquiry scene does not in anyway redeem the story.
All it does is give people the idea that combining alcohol and drugs helps you stabilize, perform better and hide your drunk junkie state. Does anyone notice the increased detected use of drugs with car drivers...now they have another method to try...get drunk and then stoned to hide their drunkenness! Oh and Goodmans role makes drug dealers look cool(in an American way)...if I was in the hotel room when he came in shouting orders, I would have pushed him head first out the window.
It has been happening, increasing for many years but this hits a new low for rubbish American culture being spread around the world.
Denzel must be desperate to do this movie...a previously highly respected actor.
