For youngsters that like violence
20 March 2024
I think I was kind to give this movie a six. Obviously many like it but it was not for me.

The "science fiction" bit was for me without any science, nothing was really scientifically plausible. More like a cross-breed of "Moonbase Alpha" and."Mad Max".

The story in the movie can be explained in 60 seconds, not much in it there. Only in the end we get to something of a deeper meaning.

Fighting scenes. Yes. A lot of them. Not plausible either. Though those with the girl was in their way rather well-done. To get young males to want to see the movie?

The movie also had some tries of humor, not particularly successful.

*Not* a scary movie
4 March 2024
OK, there are some gruesome deaths in this movie but apart from good-looking scenery it's neither a scary movie nor a good one. For us it was alternating between boring and "funny since its so bad". Of course there could be a crazy sekt in a rural part of any country, including Sweden, but there was nothing in this movie that made it believable for any of us.

There were some rather well-known Swedish actors in this movie but my verdict on the acting will at best be neutral, there didn't seem to be any room in the movie for "real acting".

Many scenes were unnecessarily prolonged which made us split the viewing into two evenings since started to be too boring.

A good chance wasted

Not really fun as a comedy, not really exciting as a crime series, nt really knowing what to be. Results in not really being anything.

When reading beforehand it sounded promising but the series didn't deliver on any account. Lack of exciting Agatha Christie puzzles and full of non-funny jokes results at a rating of 5 - which is terrible for a series.

- "Hey, I have a great idea for half a movie!"
30 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
  • "What's missing?
  • "Why, how and an ending. How should I continue?"
  • "Start with the why."
  • "A woman is acting strange but I don't really know why..."
  • "Make her Norwegian. They are by nature strange. Perhaps add one more Norwegian so thay could speak Norwegian to each other. remember Skarsgård speaking swedsih in true Blood? That went down really well."
  • "OK, and the rest?"
  • "Just start making the movie and hopefully the rest will come to you."
  • "But I think I need an extra kid..."
  • "An extra kid?"
  • "Yes, one that no-one seems to be missing."
  • "That's tough. I will think about it and come back to you if I come up with something."
  • "And I have trouble with the ending and I can't get it all together..."
  • "Well, then give it an "artistic touch" by ending the film just before the natural ending. Then you could always say that "it's up to the viewers to..." you know..."
  • "And I don't have a good name for the girl..."
  • "Girl??? It should be a boy. People care more for boys, makes the film much more interesting."
  • "OK, if you say so..."

A horrific subject is handled pretentious and boring

Seems like the bad camera work is made to make the intelligentia have to say they like it.

Just a standard action movie...
26 October 2018
While David Lagercrantz did a decent job of preserving the "Milennium feel" in the book, this movie totally lost that. Only the first Swedish movie managed to give the feel that nothing important was left out from the book, here intentionally most of the book was left out to give room for car chases and fights. The result is a banal action movie where all persons are two-dimensional.

Remarkably silly and uninteresting
10 February 2015
Hard to understand how the books by Leif GW Persson can be turned into this silly mush. It's an uninteresting plot combined by trash-talk meant to be funny, completely failing. This would be enough to describe the series, but IMDb demands a minimum of 10 lines of text so this may turn into the same mush in the end as the series reviewed. Leif GW didn't seem too hopeful himself: "In America a series can be put down anytime" - and I'm surprised it has lasted as long as 9 episodes. In the books Evert Bäckström get good results as a cop (but with many dis-allowed shortcuts) while he is impossible as a person - in the series he seems impossible as a cop as well.

Brilliant, silly, long, silly... ...and brilliant!
18 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
(Extremely mild spoiler included - and who haven't seen this sketch?) Simply the silliest, and at the same time best, Monty Python sketch ever! (well, maybe that sketch with old ladies and letter boxes attacking innocent people is sillier, but The Cycle Tour is "Simply The Best"). Both Trotskij, Clodagh Rodgers and the British/Chinese Embassy in the same sketch... :-)

While most Monty Python sketches are short and without any punch line, this makes up a whole program - and is without a punch line. But it has gag after gag, and they must have had a lot of fun making this sketch.

While everything is held together as one story, part of why it is so funny is the constant shifting of ideas, jumps between countries, changes in tempo. And of course, as usual, the characters look funny. And it's not a sketch you watch once and then it's not funny anymore, part of the fun is remembering the lines from seeing it last year.
