Gokudô kyôfu dai-gekijô: Gozu (2003)
Masterpiece, still very weird!
This film is one of the most artistic films I have seen in a long time. The sound effects were amazing and truly I have never seen or heard anything like that before. The camera-work was extraordinary! It actually impressed me so much that I couldn't wait to see what the next shot will look like. I wasn't sure what to expect from the storyline but I definitely didn't expect it to go as far as it did. I caught myself laughing a few times and then I thought 'This is not funny at all'! And then I was shocked and then I laughed again as I couldn't believe what I was seeing with my eyes! This is something you cannot explain, you have to see it and experience it your way.
I'm not sure if this will make any sense but I will buy this film and probably never watch it again!
Do lok tin si (1995)
Magical, stylish and unpredictable!
'Fallen Angels' is one of the most exciting movies I've seen in a long time; interesting camera work (not what's everyone used to), fantastic script, impressive acting, funny, erotic with style. I am not sure what I was expecting from this film but the great mixture or genres sure did make me laugh and cry at the same time. Simply amazing! This is not a gangster film; it is a story about individualism and loneliness, very emotional. This is one of those films where none of the actors needs to say 'I love you' or 'I miss you' to let everyone know what they feel. The looks, the music and the moves even the camera work tells everything. You simply feel what they feel. I absolutely loved the soundtrack; powerful and sentimental This movie is purely the work of genius, don't miss it!
Alexander (2004)
Eastern European or Irish?
When I went to watch 'Alexander' I was expecting to see a really bad film. Usually when you expect to see a bad film it turns out to be quite impressive. That was not the case this time. In fact, my disappointment was far bigger than I expected it to be. I decided not to ever comment 'a film like this one' and the only reason I went to see it was because this film was supposed to represent my history and culture.
Anthony Hopkins had the worst character make up ever! I could not believe that was actually him. I think make-up artistes had quite a fun deciding how many people will have one eye missing because if you did notice; nearly every second actor did not have one. Angelina Jolie did not age in twenty years; all she got was a bit of a grey hair. Colin Farrell had a bleached blonde hair and his dark roots were extremely annoying as the real Alexander was natural blonde I believe and people did not bleach their hair in 323 B.C. I believe that black eyeliner was supposed to make him look exotic
I have to admit I was very impressed by the way Persians were presented. The costumes and the interior design of the palace were beautiful. I could not stop laughing when I realised Collin Farrell was using his Irish accent. Why Angelina did not use it as well, instead she tried to sound like Eastern European but it turned out quite poor. If it's too difficult to learn how to speak Macedonian why just don't speak English. Trying to have eastern European accent is worse because people at Alexander's time did not speak English with various accents.
I was quite impressed by camera-work and lighting. The best work in this film did the sound designers and the storyboard artists.
