The Walking Dead: Service (2016)
Pathetic and annoying
Spoilers will follow. This episode was totally unbelievable and very annoying to watch. I could feel my blood boiling. As other reviewers have mentioned they knew Negan was coming, had a full armoury including a RPG and had lots of combat experience. I know they were supposedly traumatised by the events of episode one but thank goodness the brave men at Normandy on DD day didn't just give up after seeing much worse. The writing made no sense and I had to actually stop watching when they gave up all their guns. I'm not enjoying season 7 so far. I gave it 3 because of the decent acting, otherwise it would have been a 1.
Stranger Things (2016)
1980's nostalgia
This is very good if you like sci-fi. Maybe more suited to older nerds than younger ones who may not get the references I love the 80's vibe. Great music from the era. I was that age in 1983, oh how times have changed but this series did take me back to better(?) more innocent times. It reminds me of stuff like ET, Goonies and Wargames. No spoiler here but at one point I almost hoped they would do a scene from ET but the they chose to do something like the opening sequence to one of the Austin Powers movies. And playing games like the Hobbit on my ZX Spectrum with friends plugged into a black and white TV I bought with paper round money. Episode 8 is 10 out of 10. If you haven't seen it watch it during the Christmas holidays. The end sums up the festive period for me. HBO and Netflix make some great stuff.
Black Mirror (2011)
Some of this may be an Orwellian prediction of the past, present and future
This is written by Charlie Brooker (and others) and is quite worrying. Some of it already seems very realistic and a bit scary. The dependence on smartphones is turning people into lazy ignorant morons. WeChat in China is a good example. Nobody talks to each other, even couples in restaurants. If you haven't seen it in Episode 1 the British Prime Minister "has relations" with a pig. That would never happen would it? The acting, directing and use of locations is superb. Every episode is different but seems to have a message about our increasing dependence on modern technology and "social networking". But at the cost of our increased feeling of isolation. I think. I haven't seen them all yet.
The King's Speech (2010)
IMDb Spell checker
I was going to review this movie but being English I was distracted by my review being spell checked by the IMDb spell checker.
IMDb spelt and spelled are both acceptable.
Americans generally opt for Spelled British English is not English English.
There is no such thing as British English.
There is American English which is quite honestly crass.
Is this 10 lines yet? My point is, take Spelt off your bloody spell checker.
After all we English invented the language.
You buggers are destroying it.
Like everywhere else.
In Bruges (2008)
No Spoilers here. I have to keep pausing soak it in.
I think this is my first review on IMDb but some of the comments I read have provoked me. I haven't even seen the end yet, but after watching The Kingsman and Eddie the Eagle last night, I have to say it is lovely to see so many good films in English (or even Irish) English. I'm half Irish half Irish working in China, and thoroughly enjoying this on my PC. It makes me wonder if the Yanks get our dark underdog humour on our little Great islands? I don't want to sound anti-American but with Trump and Clinton running for President they must have some sort of sense of humour. (Humour spelled correctly with a U as in U arseh0les)
Yes IMDb I know this will never be seen, I just wanted to vent my spleen.
