Ted Lasso: Carol of the Bells (2021)
Top stuff
An pure bit of Christmas cheer.
People may say this is filler (which it is) In the midst of the production, the episode order went up to 12 so they added this episode and Beard After Hours.
That said, I think this further embellishes the characters, relationship and themes of the show.
The growing kinship between Ted and Rebecca, the soft side of Roy and his love for Keeley as well as the camaraderie amongst the players (Christmas at the Higgins!!)
The opening titles made me really want a claymation Lasso episode ala Community.
And the ending where they sing in the street (as well as other numbers throughout the show) a musical episode.
Ted Lasso (2020)
Adiós Boss
Is this really the end? I think it is but I hope not.
I often start watching show with high acclaim and popularity with my own expectations low.
Once I watched the Pilot though, I was hooked and rarely did it disappoint.
There really is something for everyone in Ted Lasso. I love the pop culture references whether it be TV, film or Music. One notable moment when Ted gifts players all books and the themes and motifs of those played in some of the players journeys.
Great character arcs from start to finish and I can forgive the notable hiccups in Season 3 as the last 3 episodes really stuck it's landing.
One of the best shows to explore mental health, anxiety and loss in recent times. The show we didn't ask but precisely what we needed.
Trying (2020)
A touching, beautiful show
Such a wonderful and heartfelt show. I think the equally fantastic Ted Lasso and his popularity has seen this show slip somewhat under the radar. If you like the heart, humour and feels from that. Then Trying is a great show of the same ilk.
What I liked especially about it was how well paced it is and the rigours of the adoption process plays out. The two leads are fantastic and their relationship seems very authentic. Special mentions to the ever brilliant Imelda Staunton in her role and I love the Phil Davis role as he slowly grows into his new role as a 'grandfather'.
The last episode of Season 3 is wonderfully played out.
BoJack Horseman (2014)
Poignant, powerful and surprisingly real
Very inventive and intelligent in the way it tackles issues like depression, alcoholism, addiction and sexuality. Took a little while to find its place but was remarkably consistent towards the end.
Starstruck (2021)
Funny and sweet
It's hard not to love Rose Matefeo. Her character is very frustrating and very flawed but she is written so honestly and portrayed so well.
Look forward to seeing what she has in the pipeline.
Adult Material (2020)
Brilliant drama
Really bold and interesting storyline that really isnt a look into the adult film industry. More about sexual consent, behaviour, the effects of early life and addiction.
Hayley Squires is such a brilliant actress and I hope she gets more great projects like this. Rupert Everett is also fantastic, he often is when given a good script.
Well worth a watch.
Derry Girls: The Agreement (2022)
Cracker!
Right from the opening scenes of Orla dancing through the streets of Derry to Dario G's 'Sunchyme' right through to the poignant end montage as we bid the gang farewell, this was as good a send off we could hope for.
A sign of a great comic series. Laughing at one scene, tearing up the next. Time and again, Derry Girls would do that. One of the best shows of recent times.
Derry Girls (2018)
All good things must end (sadly)
I worried that the 3rd series may have been a step too far and it would lose its magic. But it was packed with great episodes, cameos, laughter and tears.
A fitting ending to the show in the finale. It truly is one of the great TV shows of our time in my humble opinion.
Lovesick: Phoebe (2014)
Brilliant
A fine finale to a brilliant opening season. We finally realise what lies behind Luke's facade and that he is in pain because the 'one' could well have slipped away and devastatingly so.
So glad I finally got round to watching this show. It's delightful.
Lovesick (2014)
A hidden gem
Dont be a fool like me and dismiss this show on the initial premise. It is a great plot device to drive the story at first but what you will find inside the first few minutes is such a warm, sweet and simply wonderful story about love, friendship and missed chances.
Wonderfully written but that is uplifted by a really perfect cast. Glad that it was able to end on its own terms even if it is slightly bittersweet
I would award it an 11th star for Luke's adaptation of 'Point Break'
