The Burial (II) (2023)

Great movie!
15 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The Burial is a great movie and I agree with the folks who rated this between 7-10 and all they said. Their reviews stand on their own.

I was, however, disappointed that no one in the movie (and the ending notes), gave thanks, or or even mention to, the person who actually persuaded Jeremiah O'Keefe (played by Tommy Lee Jones), to hire Willie Gary (played by Jamie Fox) to take the case. That character, Hal Dockins (played by Mamoudou Athie) did the most important background work and discovery.

Why were any thanks absent in the movie or the after notes? Like I said above, in reality, I hope they showered Hal Dockins with many thanks.

Surprisingly funny
22 October 2022
Very good story about Bobby (Billy Eichner, also one of the writers) plays a LGBTQ historian who wants to start a historical museum. One lonely night, he goes to a dance club and locks eyes with muscle jock Aaron (Luke Macfarlane) who is just coming out and is only attracted to other muscle jocks.

Typically for any ROM-COM movie, it revolves around 2 people who do not agree about being committed. BROS is the same. Bobby is sick of 1 night stands from guys he meets on Grindr, and being old and alone. Aaron is just discovering himself as a top and engages in threesomes as a way for other men to worship his body. When he "falls" for hairy-chested Bobby, he encourages him to join and accept what he likes. Bobby, of course, is a "one man's man" and just wants to get encouragement for his goal.

This was a very funny movie despite Bobby's shouting and throwing fits about what LGBTQIA+ have had to go through for decades.

When I saw the preview for this movie, I checked out Eichner's "Billy on the Street." Most reviews were positive but I found his form of insult comedy to be way too annoying. That is why I put off seeing this film for 3 weeks. Turns out I am really glad I saw this. It was really funny.

There is no nudity in this film. All actors wore black shorts.

Soap Opera Grave
18 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The first 10 minutes is like seeing a soap opera for the first time, even though it has been on-air for decades. First, you are completely lost, not knowing anything about the characters except that they are horrible actresses and actors. You have absolutely no idea what is happening and think you have fallen into a black hole of nothingness and fear you will never escape. You get trapped into trying to figure out who is the most phony and they zap you with another "I don't remember my lines or know how to act" person. Then they dream up some kind of utterly stupid plot, without having given you a chance to know anyone's background. To confuse you even more, they slip in 3 more phony actresses, making the first actress jealous or wondering if her new fiancé has been lying to her about his past. It just gets more and more stupid. I decided it was high time to turn off notifications from the app so that I would no longer receive "we have another movie we think you will like" pop-up.

Great action sci-fi with good cast.

Edge of your seat action! I couldn't drag myself away. Great acting cast and great CGI creatures since Kong fought that dude on Skull Island but a helluva lot more of them! Was it perfect? There is no such thing in any action movie. Does it have plot holes. Sure, but who really cares when it comes to action? It is what I needed and what I got. Do not watch before going to bed!

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I enjoy this series and I am 72. It is not perfect, it is boring in places and it has many dark themes.

When it comes to learning about life, love and living, all teens struggle to learn their identity and where they "fit in," if at all. The only differences between my friends in high school and those you see in this series, is the music, hair styles, Instagram and their ability to actually be themselves, instead of trying to live up to their parent's expectations. In that respect, this series is refreshing.

To prove to you that I am 72, to the director: "If you insist on showing us texting on cell phones, please try to hold the camera steady!" :-)

Edge Of Your Seat Thriller
23 June 2020
7500 Review For the first half I was sitting on the edge of my seat; a great thriller. Joseph Gordon-Levitt was great as the co-pilot as was the age 18 terrorist (Omid Memar). I was so caught up in its anxiety, at times I had to walk away and not watch the screen while listening. Like all good thrillers, I found myself screaming at the characters on the screen, "Don't open the door," "Don't talk to them," "Turn off the camera," "Stop crying," "Pay attention to the other guy!" as the action ensued. As things became totally out-of-hand for the co-pilot, I was beginning to feel like C-3PO; "doomed." There came the time, however, that I started screaming at the terrorist, "Don't do it, don't do it!" as the obvious ending approached. Instead of looking at this as a script weakness, I found that the director did an excellent job making the audience feel that they were actually in the cockpit and taking on the lives of the two antagonistic characters. I don't think any adult, much less young adult, would exercise common sense when under that kind of internal, external, religious, and family pressure. The script did call for the co-pilot to calm the terrorist through some personal sharing but stopped short of helping him see there was "another way out." You have to pay close attention but this movie showed us all we needed to see, despite the sudden but expected ending.
