The Philadelphia Experiment (1984)
In 2013 I'm reviewing this movie from 1984
I'm on a watching old movie kick. Although I'm not so sure that the 80's is all that old since I can still recall seeing this back then! Watching it now sure gives another perspective! First off were all females as whiney and annoying as Nancy Allen's character? Allison.. "Don't listen to him David, just don't listen. Tell me what's going on, just tell me. I can't just say things once, not only once? I repeat things in case you didn't hear it, just in case." And OMG did everyone smoke cigarettes? What were we thinking> I rather enjoyed the special effects of the time - not overdone - but made the point. The story was what the story was - and it is and has been a classic. Lot's of the actual written story was removed in place of lovey dovey and whiney stuff - but that's alright. I personally would have loved to see more 1980's stuff - here in 2013 - from the perspective of someone from years before. I'm seeing it from the past and he's seeing it from the future. I'm looking forward to a movie where women are more "modern" - not quite sure where or when that's going to be.
The Andromeda Strain (1971)
1971 vs 2013 - technology
I haven't watched this movie in years. Literally. I loved it when I first saw it - which was probably when it first came out and then again in the 80's. Maybe even 90's. Watching it now (in 2013) puts a whole new spin on it. Firstly, the story is captivating. Mutating outer-worldly killer thing gone wild - but not really. The story and plot are predicable and there were some "riskay" butt scenes - but what really got my attention was the technology aspect - the computer system, the stylus and touch screen, all of that. Add the look at a bunch of 70's cars in the town and it was sort of like watching an old movie. Wait! It is an old movie! The warped male/female way things were - totally male dominated society - but they did place the grumpy woman Dr. there (she was a he in the book). Anyway, it was a fun watch.
Absolute Zero (2006)
In top 10 most awful excuses for a movie
Just wow. Poor acting, poor effects, poor story, poor everything. It was bad beyond bad! Even for a made for TV movie it was bad! So bad that I had to keep watching despite wanting badly to stop. I would highly recommend not wasting your time - but if you do - you'll probably watch the whole movie like I did wondering if there will be any saving grace to it. (There wasn't)! Sadly many disaster movies don't live up to many expectations - but this one was so bad - that I can't even come up with one. Just wow! There was nothing that resembled special effects - the story was jumbled, garbled, and overly manipulated. Characters didn't react when they should or do things even a crazy person would expect. I guess you have to see it to understand because it's not even something that can be described!
