The 15:17 to Paris (2018)
Butchered story turned movie
With the religious talk, the poor storyline development, true heroic events were butchered in this movie.
A rather heroic event immortalized into a mediocre film. Little did I anticipate it was directed by Clint Eastwood by a stretch.
Despised the religious input and the boring acting and chatter. I agree could have fast forwarded movie to about 70mins in.
IMO reviews are glorified for what the actual movie and depicted true life events were. Next time I'll do research before wasting my time.
Edge of Fear (2018)
Sexist POS movie
Played out script, bad acting, bad timing, bad cuts, maybe 2 or 3 good actors, the "bad guy" has lousy lines and just a hard pass. Scathing sexist lines. Couldn't get past maybe 20mins.
Barefoot (2014)
What a waste
The actors are pretty good, good cast, acting included. I do not agree with any of the reviews. This movie would get zero stars from me were it not for the actors.
The storyline is really lame. There isn't a "lesson". It's a fantastical "Cinderella story" that doesn't make sense and is completely unrealistic. ("Surprising"/s)
The main character is portrayed as a "dumb bimbo" woman raised by a parent with mental health issues.
The guy has an absolutely ridiculous storyline going on that would never happen like that in real life.
It fails the Bechdel test within just about the first 5 minutes, and watching it to the end was like pulling teeth for me. Sexist, fantastical, and cheesy, and not in a cute or funny way.
My lesson was to not watch it ever again lol. Not sure why this has earned a 6.5 in reviews & ratings at all whatsoever.
How to Build a Sex Room (2022)
The ratings seem wrong, system bias?
As of 7/11/2022 of this review, the average IMDB rating is a 4.8, however the scores are pretty high; based on watcher reviews the score totals 46/60 which would equate to roughly 76.77%, out of 10, that would be a high 7/10
Show is quirky and interesting. Just started watching and enjoying the content. But seeing this score/rainy system makes me think there's something equivocal about other ratings on here for sure.
Coded Bias (2020)
Ignore the "poor" reviewers, educate yourself and watch!!
This information being brought to the fore on this documentary is incredibly informative and useful to know. Everyone using face recognition on their phone or anywhere, or that have a smartphone, apps, technology need to know how companies are using data.
Interesting how the information was discovered to begin with... and to me it was a bit shocking that it was not entirely intentional a discovery. But a discovery nonetheless.
I'd love to see this documentary delve into the use for employment platforms and their algorithms too. The documentary showcases how employment platforms may be removing candidates that have gone to certain universities or that participated in certain organizations, etc. (But then say they can't find "qualified" candidates? Yet, look at unemployment stats...)
The bad reviews probably have vested interests and don't want people to know, or maybe are biased themselves? Either way....
Don't let that deter from watching how your information is gathered and used by technology today and in the future to come.
There is currently a big lack in regulation as AIs are being employed, so it's sort of a free for all until there's proper oversight.
Is this the new way of discrimination that people don't even know is happening? Maybe.. but the documentary just touches the surface on what and how tech is and can be used and that there is desperate need for oversight and regulation.
Must watch!! PLEASE educate yourself, you deserve to know this information.
Bullet Head (2017)
Meh
The movie was ok for most of the storyline and acting. What didn't do it for me was the unnecessary illegal dog fighting portion of the story. That made the movie garbage for me personally. I get that it's a movie and the dogs weren't necessarily fighting during the shooting of it but I'm on the fence if it sheds light on such a pathetic abusive practice or if it promotes it. :(
Absurd Planet (2020)
Punny, satiric yet educational
The name says "absurd" with reason. It's funny, punny and pretty creative. Writers were able to conjure up puns along with clips from a variety of species. I had the expectation that the show would be punny and quirky and it sure didn't disappoint. It seems they were aiming for providing educational content about our quirky earth, with a hefty dose of satire, humor and creativity. It's fair to go in with an open mind. Most mature shows are rather serious and some somber. I found the series educational, satirical and entertaining all in one. Cool stuff!
The Girl Next Door (2007)
Trigger-warning movie
Summary says: based on true events.
Sadistic adult left to be responsible for children and likely not vetted properly, if at all. How unfortunate to have to say that this happens to kids everyday and they're often not believed because they're kids.
The title should have been: "Creating Misogynist Psychos" or "How Not To Parent"
So many bystanders and the victim wasn't helped out sooner.
This movie is triggering, infuriating.
Sheds light on child abuse, bystanders, how vulnerable kids really are. But also worth watching.
The kind of movie that show us what not to do, what needs to be talked about and addressed, not ignored.
365 Days: This Day (2022)
Eye candy at best
The playlist, music is the stuff of nightmares.
Opulent visuals, eye candy almost everywhere but the storyline isn't great.
I can't say enough how the music makes my ears want to bleed.
Hillbilly Elegy (2020)
Very underrated movie
Don't mind my sardonic insight; tongue-in-cheek, dry-humor, it doesn't oft translate outside of in person. This storyline showcases the real lives of so many citizens of the United States, the alleged dreamland. Raw, honest reality a large portion of the population in this country face through their lives. Should be showcased at every high school so non-adults can see what many face in this 20th century reality. Sobering. But also heartwarming. Parenting is not a fairytale it's painted out to be. It needs to be seen from a realistic viewpoint. Here, from the eyes of a loving son, for others to bear witnesses to.
A Killer Uncaged (2020)
Such ignorance
The amount of ignorance and hypocrisy in the system and in society is showcased and magnified by the amount of stupidity in this show. Watching is is like pulling teeth.
