Small Soldiers (1998)
underrated film is very entertaining
This is a very entertaining film. It is an comedy-adventure movie with a touch of horror, but mild than most other movies like it, not completely family-friendly but near it. The CGI effects are top-notch even now and really worked mixed with the robotic close-ups. Tommy Lee Jones fits as the voice of Major Chip, the general of the commandos. It is an interesting film and has it's own fun, classic feel to it. The names of the commandos and gorgonites were great. Gremlins may have inspired this film but it isn't just Gremlins with toys. This movie may not be a classic but it is very unique and a rare jewel in film making. The very high entertainment level and quality effects makes this movie worth watching.
The Car (1977)
surprisingly good 70's horror film
I liked it. The acting wasn't great, but good enough and the effects and the suspense were done well. I liked the characters and the car was awesome. The whole movie was done well and very suspense filled. My favorite scene was when the car followed the female lead home and crashed through her house and out the other side, killing her. Obviously, a car probably couldn't do that, but it just made the scene even more epic. Another scene i love is the graveyard attack scene. In that scene, the car attacks a group of children but is stopped by the children getting to holy ground(behind the graveyard arch this movie isn't the best, but it is done well. I recommend it.
Critters 2 (1988)
very fun, very good sequel
I liked this one. Unlike most sequels, it did not deteriorate at all in quality at ALL. The critter effects were awesome and the ropes pulling the critters(as in the goofs) were actually not very visible at all. Just a warning to younger readers; it is not as appropriate as its proceeder or it's two sequels: in one scene, a woman is seen topless for about half a second and then she is seen covering herself, there is also a little more gore in this one, but keep in mind it is a comedy so it is also a little light and funny. It was a fun movie and the critters grouping together was cool. The female bounty hunter's death was surprising. The acting was believable and the story was fun. Over all, if you liked number one, you'll like number two. I recommend it for all 12 and up.
Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990)
more laughs less scares still works
The first was 4/5 and this one is more like 3/5. The less scares still works, but a little more creepy would be better. The idea of the gremlins mutating was fun and the effects for it were great(I would have gone without the flying gremlins defeat so quickly.) The animation for gizmo's dancing scene was hardly noticeable but still displeasing. Don't get me wrong, i still loved this movie, but it was not as good as #1. My last con is the gremlins interrupting the film. This was okay, but I think they could have gone without it(but I heard they got read of it in the DVD version.) The rest of the movie was done well and all the movie references were funny. The scene were the female lead is attacked in the elevator was cool and so was the scene were the other gremlins came into the picture. It does have it's cons, but over all gremlins II is worth seeing and very entertaining
The Scorpion King (2002)
a horribly worthless movie
I personally despise this movie and it is one of the worst movies I've seen! Everything about this movie is horrid. The acting was horrible, the attempts at humor were disgusting and the battle scene were just plain bad. The only halfway decent actor in this movie was the woman who played princess!!!! And just so you know, it is supposed an action movie with a touch of humor, not a comedy. I do not like Dwayne Johnson's acting at all but the others managed to be even worse. The stunts were very, very bad; they were poorly staged and badly executed. The parts that were supposed to be serious were just plain funny and the funny parts were awkward. I do NOT recommend it and it is a horrible prequel to a good series.
Gremlins (1984)
great 80's horror comedy about little monsters
I really liked this movie. For a movie made in the 1980's the effects were very good. The acting was great and the gremlins are hilarious. The comedy really works the way so many other movies have tried to work (and failed). Its squadron of knock-offs are entertaining but not as good, My favorite being Critters. Critters also works but still, it was not as good a movie. The others being: Ghoulies, Ghoulies II, Ghoulies III, Ghoulies IV, Munchies, and I guess Troll. Gremlins also had a sequel, which declined in quality. I think it could have a 3rd installment as long as it didn't go computer animation. Gremlins is the type of movie that can be seen again and again and doesn't get old . So I totally recommend it for everyone 10+.
Critters 3 (1991)
the third installment was still pretty good
The effects were still great, the acting worked, and I liked the characters... but it was missing something.I don't know what but it was. I still recommend it of course and I decently enjoyed it. Critters 3 was not as much horror and more funny but it still worked. The critter effects have slightly changed but still basically the same. The critters are now more slimy and darker in color. It was great to see Charlie return again Leonardo DiCaprio did a great job in his role as Josh. Having a critter main protagonist was interesting and fun, and I liked the development in the other critter's characters also. It was very slightly off beat but fun to watch and entertaining. To sum it all up it was not as good as #2 but stayed true to the original.
Prophecy (1979)
an interesting and chilling horror film
I give it 6/10, well more like 6 1/2. I liked it. The acting was great and so were the special effects. It was a very creepy movie. My favorite scene was either the truck scene or the lake scene. Its to bad that it was overshadowed by Alien(1979), though. In my a pinion it is VERY worth seeing. There were side plots and character development throughout the whole film and with tension building, it was very suspenseful. For the time, the effects were good and yes, very convincing. And then there was the hilarious exploding pillow scene, just about the only thing corny in this movie. Besides that, it was surprisingly good. The script was also good, especially when supported by quality acting and great cinematography. The plot was also pretty interesting. To sum it up it was a quality horror flick from a time when by our standards, quality was harder to come by.
