Terror on the Prairie (2022)
I've seen this before, just not this bad
This is a terrible movie, one that drags along very slowly, one that just doesn't work. The characters are not relatable and often make odd decisions that no one in their right mind would make. The plot is tied and worn out, one that we've seen a bunch of times already. This movie is almost like someone really, really, really wanted to make a blockbuster but tried too hard and failed. Carano's acting, if you want to call it that, was amateurish, at best. The antagonists were nothing short of clownish, getting in the way of themselves in their feeble attempt to do what they had come to do. If you want to see a movie really bad, then this is a really bad movie. Don't waste your time on this.
Jumanji: The Next Level (2019)
Fun!
While this won't exactly be a cinematic masterpiece it's an absolute joy to watch. It's fast, entertaining, funny and it's just simply...fun! I didn't expect something that was going to make me go hmmmmm, or yank emotions from deep within me. But what I did expect was something enjoyable and I got exactly that.
If you liked the first one you'll love this one. I did. And it's really something to see the Rock playing the role of a Danny DeVito and he nails it. This is a great movie.
Black Widow (2021)
What a let down
I'll be blunt: this movie was awful. I love the character and I feel there aren't enough female superheroes and female superhero movies so I was really excited for this movie. However, the story lacked depth. It was like a Marvel version of Fast and Furious and not the good ones. If you like lots of action with no thought you'll love this movie. It was boring, predictable and at times simply didn't make any sense. It's almost like they wanted to rush this through because of the delay from Covid19.
I wouldn't waste my time on this and really, Marvel, are you trying to one up D. C. with who can make the worst movie?
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
Haven't I seen this before?
I was eager to watch this movie as I had heard so much about it but at the same time I was sorely disappointed with the work JJ Abrams had done with "Star Trek" so going into it I knew this might not be the best Star Wars movie made.
I didn't realize just how right I was.
The movie is basically a rehash of "A New Hope", the original Star Wars. It starts off with a battle between rebel forces and the Empire, with storm troopers winning the battle and the villain, dressed in a black armored looking suit, arrives at the end of the battle. A droid is equipped with a message and sent on his way, barely escaping capture.
This is exactly how "A New Hope" started.
The movie is basically about the rebels fighting off the evil empire with a young hero coming into power with the Force. All of the elements of the original movie are there: a young hero captured by the empire, Han and Chewie attempting a rescue, running among the artificial planet which is actually a weapon and the rebels, on the brink of defeat, shooting into the weapon planet, blowing it up to pieces.
There's even a bar scene with Han and Chewie.
The main villain is almost a clone of Darth Vadar who is draped in a black outfit that conceals his appearance and has a voice that would make James Earl Jones sound high pitched. The voice over quality is god awful, it sounds like someone recorded it on an old cassette deck. It makes me wonder, with all of the money spent on this movie, they couldn't make his voice sound better.
What really baffles me is how the empire has the technology to build not one but two death stars but don't seem to have the ability to prevent someone from dropping a bomb down a vent shaft. And then, 30 years later with improved technology, they build an even better death star, one that can harness ALL of the power from a nearby sun, yet can't seem to prevent someone from dropping bombs inside of it.
At least this time it's not down a vent shaft.
If you're looking for a Star Wars movie with battle scenes involving lasers and lightsabers, weird looking aliens and most of the original characters, you'll be happy.
But if you're looking for an original, interesting story, you won't be happy.
I wasn't happy. There is very little about this movie that was original. I have no idea why this has such high ratings, perhaps people don't care about quality writing and original story telling, both of which this movie does not have.
Drive Angry (2011)
So bad it's great
This movie will not go down as one of the greats...by a long shot. However, it is certainly worth seeing a couple dozen times. I laughed so hard at many of the scenes and really, what's more funny than a dead man who loves to drink and can have sex with a woman until she can't stand it...the whole time with an extremely stoic look on his face as if he just didn't care?
I wouldn't watch this movie for a great story line. A guy loses his daughter and goes on a campaign to avenge her. Whatever. But it's not the story line that makes this a fun movie to watch, it's how the story is told. Like a joke that isn't funny but has you in stitches before it gets to the punch line, this movie in entertaining. It keeps you watching. You won't be telling your friends the next day about how great the story was but you'll be mentioning different scenes with glee, such as when the "hero" is killing off the bad guys with a gun in one had, a whiskey bottle in the other and a woman on top of him.
It's a fun movie to watch. Don't go into this movie expecting a great work of art. Go into it looking for a good time.
Weeds (2005)
This show jumped the shark early
The first three seasons of this show were entertaining and funny with excellent story lines and character development. There were a few things I didn't care for, such as when the main character became involved with a police officer and then marrying him. However, it wasn't enough to take away from the excellent storyline.
The fourth season was where the problems took over. First of all, the basis of the show was about a person dealing drugs in an upscale, snobbish, suburban community full of prudes, many who were doing drugs themselves. In season four the show moved out of that community into a "normal" community, destroying the basis of the show. The main character also stops dealing drugs in a later season. What was this story based on? Why call this show "Weeds" if no one is selling weed?
Also, the characters of Heylia and Conrad left after season three, removing two central characters of the story. Celia became a bumbling idiot whose charm was destroyed when she no longer had a position of power. As a "villain" she was interesting as long as she had authority but when she was stripped of that she was became boring. Almost like if Frank Burns in "Mash" was demoted to a private.
I suggest, if you want to watch this show, watch the first three seasons. The seasons after those are worthless and dumb.
