The Chosen One (2023)
Absolutely FANTASTIC
Ok, I don't write many reviews but this show deserves praise (oops, no pun intended). Here's how I feel, if you may be upset by religion being the theme of a piece of fiction please don't watch them and then give bad ratings. People's beliefs are just that, beliefs. As a non-believer, I was very much entertained by the evolution of this story. It needed to take place where it did because none of what happened is possible in America. It was perfectly set. The character building was great, the twists great, the suspense, the emotion, the cinematography, camera work, and location all great. Highest of quality. Top marks for music! The score and soundtrack is so awesome I will def watch this again just to feel it all again! The acting was fantastic and the big climactic scene... just WOW. Ending was very well done. There were some comments about the white blue eyed man message and in my opinion it isn't a message, it's projection. It's also not a Netflix story. White men have done a good enough job demonizing themselves than tv and films do. There are lots of movies about the chosen one, messiahs, angels, demons, good vs evil but this was actually thought all the way out to the very end and didn't fall apart at any stage of the story. It was crafted by gifted storytellers. I hope you watch it. Some more details to keep people who may not appreciate it from leaving bad reviews is that it's basically a young adult piece. All of the main characters are 12. They are likable and they all care about each other. There is some teen romance and underage drinking. There are weird scenes of a voice whispering to Jodie, lots of flashbacks, and some 'oh come on' moments but it was all part of the ride. And one more thing, I really wish people would enjoy tv and film a little more by not trippin out so much on how realistic everything needs to be. Just remember Movie Phone guys voice, "In a world...." and then allow the creators to take you there.
The Ledge (2022)
If context matters to you at all...
There is nothing entertaining or enjoyable about a movie premise of four bros catching their other e n g a g e d bro attempting to brutally rape a girl in the woods, they then all start to chase her and when they catch her they let the rapey bro punch her off a cliff which paralyzes her and then they all run down to the bottom and stand around as he beats her head in with a rock.... If this is entertainment to you what. The. Hell, bro ?? Just to be clear - four dudes assisted a homicidal rapist and cleaned up his mess. It doesn't matter that they have their own secrets, it's the ickiest feeling in the world to watch and nothing that is revealed or that happens after makes it better. This broke the rules of film, alienated the females and made any decent man uncomfortable af. That was crap, dude wow.
I gave it two stars because aside from the beginning, which is the entire backdrop of the rest of the movie, it was a pretty good suspenseful thriller! If watching a man brutalize a woman while four of his friends watch is your thing though you'll love it! Definite vibe killer for me, no cap.
Gretel & Hansel (2020)
Absolutely excellent
This movie gave me the creeps all throughout. Watch through the end of the credits, the music is next level spooky. The imagery just as good. They kept the general storyline of Hansel & Gretel and added extra skin-crawling creepiness. Great cinematography, score, script, screenplay, cast. Watch only if you appreciate scary stories and creepy tales. If you're just a horror fan don't watch it because you'll just give it a bad review and that's not fair at all.
John Wayne Gacy: Devil in Disguise (2021)
What did I just watch?
The absolutely unthinkable things he did to so many was left out. Not necessarily graphic details but solemn description of horror makes people feel empathy and a desire for justice. There was a lot to unfold but, in my opinion, it was shocking to watch a six hour love letter to one of the most psychopathic minds in modern history. The amount of asses they put in those interview chairs to sit and blab on about how important, successful, and beloved he was was nauseating, truly. I felt embarrassed for Peacock. The relationships he had with self-proclaimed "journalists" and notoriety-seeking attorneys was astonishing. Why would you give these pieces of crap a platform to tell us all how well they got to know him and shower him with kindness, loyalty, and attention until he died? How sick are these programs going to get with the glorification of these monsters? Stop telling stories this way! Gacy did unspeakable acts and then snuffed the lives of dozens of young men - Too much of this program was a big fat disgusting tribute to him and his fans. I did learn a lot about the case, wasn't all bad. But other sick minds watch this stuff and would certainly enjoy terrorizing people thinking the rest of their lives they'll have support and be cared for when it's presented this way. Didn't they make that point very clearly in the show? "Gacy loved pornography", he promoted "stag films" and then he acted them out. We gonna blow right past that parallel of thought? If we normalize it, it will become normal. What is happening?? You have to feign respect to make him trust you to get his story, don't actually respect him! Anyway, idk I think a narrator might have helped? Someone to remind us that the creators of this show do not respect Gacy's fans, or maybe don't give them 3 hours to ramble about how cool he was? Worth the watch, but do not be swayed in the direction these shows swing, people. Just a reminder, this was a seriously sick man, not a celeb. Someone please produce a docuseries about the friendships that other sick people form with prolific psychos and the shows that showcase that behavior.
Friend Request (2016)
Well done
As horrors go, this one is thoroughly entertaining and complete with its own catchy original music. Def high on the predictability charts but still had some shocks and creepy scenes. Just disturbing enough for me without taking it way too far like some do these days. The innuendo was perfect. Enjoy!
