Miami Vice (1984)
A gritty cop show that changed cop shows
Let me get this right out there: Don Johnson is amazingly good looking and in the 80's I so wanted to jump his bones. Whew. But his acting has long been underrated and this is the show that highlights that. Just watch the episode "Evan." But the entire cast is excellent, the writing is strong and solid and the technical aspects, from lightning to direction to sound all paved the way for future video makers. Is some of it dated? Probably. Does that lessen it's place in TV history? Not at all. Each time I watch an episode, I see something new. It's a TV series that will be remembered for years to come. And I still want to jump Don Johnson's bones.
30 Nights of Paranormal Activity with the Devil Inside the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2013)
OMG
That was a truly awful movie and a huge waste of time. I keep hoping it would end.
Gisaengchung (2019)
Excellent
Will stay with you long after you leave the theater. Worthy of ever award and accolade that comes its way.
Dolittle (2020)
A sweet funny movie
I don't know why so many people are trashing this movie. It's not trying to be any more than it is, a fun kid-friendly movie that adults can appreciate, too. I laughed out loud more than once, and Robert Downey Jr. is always enjoyable. My one complaint is that there should have been more of Barry the tiger.
Project Ithaca (2019)
What?
Watched the entire movie, still don't know what it was supposed to be about. Something about aliens snatching people for some reason that's never really made clear. Perhaps the makers thought they were being deep and meaningful but it just wasn't.
The Public (2018)
A good movie not getting enough attention.
When I saw this, there were only 2 of us in the theater and that's a shame since this is a good movie that should be seen by everyone. Good acting, direction and writing. It needs more publicity!
The Mountain Between Us (2017)
Thought it was nice scenery...
....well acted, some technical problems but seriously the Dog should have had 3rd billing, not last after non-speaking minor characters,
The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1982)
Excellent
Can't say enough about this brilliant telling of a classic story. An A+ cast that cannot be topped. A truly most-see TV-movie!
Book Club (2018)
Well worth it
Funny, a little raunchy, and a treat to see some of the great ladies of Hollywood acting again. It proves that young isn't always better and maybe some up-and-comers could learn a thing or two.. Andy Garcia is always classy, Craig T. Nelson reminds us of his comic skills while still showcasing his dramatic chops, and Don Johnson is still a gorgeous hunk who manages to appear human.
Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man (1991)
Think I left review already, but...
It can't be said enough that this is a fun buddy movie (the best kind of movie) and that Don Johnson is absolutely gorgeous with a beard. He's why I watch it whenever it's on and I have the DVD.
The Company You Keep (2012)
Good acting, but....
I wanted to like it more than I did because while the movie as a whole was well done, the time line bothered me. Characters kept referring to actions that happened 30 years ago. The movie is clearly set in 2011 because we are shown a newspaper with that date. 30 years before 2011 was 1981. The Vietnam war was long over by then. It might be a small problem to some viewers, but how hard would it have been to be accurate and say 40 years ago, or to have set the movie in an earlier date? Of course, younger actors would have been needed for the major roles if the movie had been sent in a time before 2011 and it's good to see older actors getting jobs in this youth-obsessed culture.
