Could have been good
Decent premise, but highly predictable and goes the same way as the walking dead (i.e. Focuses too much in the people and not enough on the monsters).
The issue with this is that none of the characters are particularly likeable. In fact even the 'main characters' are whiny, irritating and their unrealistic acting is regularly immersion breaking.
In addition to a predictable storyline, the dialogue is incredibly stale and finishing the sentences/foreseeig the way conversations will go is common. This makes the dramatic pauses and 'revelations' lackluster. Overall feels as though it was written by a 15 year old, or someone who wrote their first screenplay, said "this is really cool" and had it filmed before getting a second opiniong
THE RECAP AT THE START OF EACH EPISODE IS SO LONG. Shorten it to the key points and don't recap the previous 2 episodes in their entirety next time guys!
Cool monsters. Could have done with more of them. Might have saved the series.
Hostile (2017)
Some films you really get lost in
This isn't one of them. You'll be painfully aware that that the main actress is acting, at all times.
The Boys (2019)
Is that it?
Great cast, great story, great visuals, but ending the season after 8 episodes really feels like it's being milked for another season. A ridiculous finale that answers nothing
Bedeviled (2016)
Typical jump scare nonsense. Not worth the time
While there's some decent CGI in this film, overall it's a disappointing title. The story line is basically IT (even down to the clowns) except the actors are slightly older and a lot worse. It's difficult to pin it down to the writing or the delivery, but bad examples of both are apparent throughout.
All in all, Bedeviled shining example of what 'horror' has become; all jump scares and no terror. The first scene sums this up where an obvious and non-threatening silhouette walks across the room (so close to the camera that the screen goes completely dark) and is accompanied by a delayed and OVERLY LOUD jarring noise. That one scene will give you an immediate feel for what the rest of the film is like.
Yet another film that will fall into the chasm between watchable and "so bad, it's good".
Get Out (2017)
Too political for my taste
Despite exploring some interesting concepts, the film ends after what seems to be the build up. The majority of the film feels like it's working up to something big, which then resolves itself in the last 10 minutes.
If it wasn't so heavily focused on race, I'm sure this would've gotten a 4/10
Almost Famous (2000)
Watch at your own risk - a masterpiece
A deep, thrilling, heartbreaking movie that touches on issues you're either too young to understand, or old enough to wish you had them again. It serves to remind that life is what you make of it, so make it worth it.
A must watch for the hopeless romantics; a bold choice for the faint of heart.
Enjoy.
Blair Witch (2016)
Basically, just go and watch Grave Encounters
This film is basically grave encounters. If you've seen either film you know what I mean (PERMANENT NIGHT TIME) It's not a bad film, as there's some suspense, but it by no means good or innovative. Seriously, watch ANY OTHER SHAKY CAM MOVIE and you'll save yourself the time AND get an actual storyline that isn't just a forced attempt at following on from a 17 year old movie at the time of writing (See: The Blair Witch Project 1999).
Enjoy, movie lovers!
Arctic Blast (2010)
Among the worst films I've ever had the displeasure of watching
An utter disaster that somehow found its way into British Netflix. A shameful attempt at continuing on where 'the day after tomorrow' left off.
The acting is beyond atrocious, you needn't look further than the 'chocolate bar' scene to see this. In the scene, a character (the names are impossible to recall through the sheer rage this film induces) states she'd like some chocolate bars. Our main character then asks her when she last checked her blood sugar which, given that it is a totally spontaneous comment, tells us there will be issues later in the films regarding her having diabetes and not being able to leave the building due to the weather. This, shockingly, is revealed a mere 20 minutes later. Oh, if you got that far, I'm impressed already. The acting when it comes to 'freezing' is so cliché that it's embarrassing. Must be seen to be believed.
The point that I turned the film off (after giving it multiple chances to redeem itself) comes after the emergency alert. All of Australia is being told that a deadly cold front that kills instantly is about to take the land into its icy tendrils... and nobody thinks to suspend aircraft from landing. As if that wasn't a poor enough blunder, when trying to tell a landing plane that they are experiencing 'dangerous weather' (which does it no justice at all), the pilot ignores the warning and lands anyway. Because pilots are well known for ignoring the instructions given by ground control right? Anyway, I turned this film off immediately following the shoddy explosion CGI. Not only is this a below freezing area which would presumably interact with flames in a very negative way, but the animating throughout is dated and poorly executed.
Kudos to anyone who managed the entire film. That's time you'll never get back, but your persistence is admirable. Among the worst films I'be ever seen (and while my views tend to be controversial sometimes, watch it and you'll see the ratings are being kind).
Do not subject yourself to this.
