Arukimedesu no taisen (2019)
A great movie about Japanese politics and culture
Folks looking for an action movie, a war movie, or a feelgood movie are not going to understand this film. The film is really about Japanese politics and culture within the Japanese Admiralty before WWII. There is a little bit of politics at the beginning of the movie, it transitions to a feel-good piece where the protagonist is breaking down barriers to solve a problem, and then the conclusion of the movie is the big political reveals. Reveals because the politics break into several conclusions on the part of the real hero's of the story who are in competing factions within the Admiralty.
Foundation (2021)
The Dalek's Exterminated the Foundation
Any semblance of Asimov's masterwork that is the "Foundation Trilogy" has been totally exterminated. It would totally OK to call this TV travesty by its own title as it shares no similarity to the original work. Main characters daring do has nothing to do with the mindfulness of the Foundation Trilogy. I would say avoid this tripe. Call Apple TV and the producers and lodge a protest.
Hands of Stone (2016)
Great movie with focus
Boxing provides cover for a character study of several interesting and intersecting personalities who are motivated by different things, events, culture, and history. Those looking for Rocky, Ali, or an old time boxing flick might be disappointed with the lack of drama. However, it can be more interesting to know why people are doing things rather than how they are doing them. Detracting from the film was the directors use of soft focus most of which frankly was out of focus, literally out of focus. I don't know why anyone would shoot an entire movie with close-ups that are slightly out of focus. Nevertheless the dialogue the story the characters and their motivations were conveyed with interest and clarity. Give me a movie with "too many words "any day as opposed to movies with special-effects in a linear plots. This movie provides us with the study of real life, and real people flaws and all.
