Maniac (2013)
Mysterious, Creepy, Cool film
I was looking forward to seeing this film and I was not disappointed. The overall feel was kind of a throwback to the films of the 1970s. The locations seemed very authentic and the score gave that uneasy feeling that Bill Sorvino as The Man portrays.
The thing I enjoyed the most was the mystery. You don't really know what's going on or the main characters motivation until later in the film. There are some early hints but because the explanation is withheld, it engulfs you even more into the story.
And as I'm a fan of unconventional movies I liked that the end was open for the audience to determine. Overall it was a very cool film that has a nostalgic feel to it.
No, You Ain't Alright (2011)
Good Homage Film
Nice short film that had funny references to Goodfellas. As a big Scorsese fan I really liked it. I'm glad to see my fellow actor Sam Tuffarelli in another film. She made the most of her part. She's had bigger parts but I enjoyed her in this, Especially the delivery of the final line. Writer/Director Michael Ringston does a nice job emulating specific shots from a crucial scene in Goodfellas. Actor Steve Abbott and Giusepee Divita do an admirable job with their performances. Overall a cute and clever idea for a short film. I was fortunate enough to see it in a preview screen but I recommend seeing it the first chance you get at a local film festival. Go Sam
Night Club (2011)
Fun Nostalgic Film
I had the chance to see Night Club at a small theater near where I live and I thought it was really great. I didn't know much about it other than the basic premise but I was really glad I went to see it. The young actors in it were funny and personable and the veteran actors Like Ernest Borgnine and Mickey Rooney were right on the money. The casting especially for the residents of the nursing home was perfect. I also really liked the references to 80s movies like Night Shift and Beverly Hills Cop. The story was heart warming but funny at the same time. You don't really think it's going to tug at your heart strings but by the end I was getting a little emotional. I definitely recommend this film and I will probably go see it again when it gets a wide release. Also I read online that the film and some of the actors in it are going to be winning some awards at some film festivals.
