The Man in the Santa Claus Suit (1979)
Cute Movie!
I love Christmas movies and every Christmas I try to tape all of the Christmas movies that are shown on TV and I taped The Man In The Santa Claus Suit several years ago but for some reason never got around to watching it and I watched it for the first time this December, 2004 and yes it's a little corny but I liked it and thought it was a cute movie and so far I have watched it 3 times! As a child of the 70's I enjoyed the cast of actors who I remember seeing in movies and TV shows in the 70's and I thought Bert Convy, John Byner and the guy who played Radar in the TV show Mash were all good and I think Fred Astaire was great in this 1978 made for TV movie and I thought this movie was pretty good though I have noticed some bloopers that they didn't seem to catch like the fashion model that the math teacher wanted to propose to was named Polly Primer but an actor in the cast called her Polly Farmer but anyway I think this is a charming movie and I recommend it! BTW: Can anyone really picture a beautiful fashion model being named Polly? Polly Sounds like the type of name a fashion model agency would tell a girl with that name that she needs to change her name professionally to something more beautiful and glamorous! Polly sounds more like the name of a fashion models grandmother or great grandmother!
It Nearly Wasn't Christmas (1989)
An Adorable Christmas Movie!
I taped It Nearly wasn't Christmas several years ago but for some reason I didn't watch it until this year and so far I have watched it 3 times and I think this movie is great! It is about a little girl named Jennifer who lives in Illinois and she is unhappy that her father (Played by Wayne Osmond) has been working in California and can't make it home for Christmas and her mother is to busy and doesn't have enough money to take Jennifer and herself to see him so Jennifer runs away and meets Santa Claus who is on a mission to see if there are people who still care about Christmas because he is feeling that no one believes in him anymore and that people have gotten greedy and have no good will towards each other. This is a very cute movie and I really liked watching it and I thought the cast was good and Wayne Osmond who plays Jennifer's father is one of the Osmond brothers and this movie was filmed in Utah back in the late 1980's and watching this movie you will definitely see how late 80's it is especially with the clothes, hairstyles and the mother's huge eyeglasses that practically take up her whole face but despite that it's still a great movie and Ted Lange who was part of the cast of the 70's/80's TV show The Love Boat is in this too! This movie reminds me of the Christmas cartoon The Year Without A Santa Claus because like that cartoon this movie has a Santa Claus who is feeling a little down in the dumps and feeling that people just don't care about each other and needs something to show him that there are still decent people out there that are nice and caring!
Holiday in Your Heart (1997)
Disappointing!
I just recently watched this movie on LIfetime TV and I just didn't like it! I like Leann Rhimes she is one of my favorite singers and I thought her acting was good and I think the acting from Bernadette Peters and the woman who played Leann's grandmother was great but still I found this movie disappointing because it wasn't Christmassy enough for me and I thought that there were some things in this movie that were kind of cheesy and far fetched! Fans of the TV show Wings will notice that the actress who plays Leann Rhimes grandmother in this movie was also in Wings, she was the older woman who worked the announcement system and was kind of a busy body!
Miracle on 34th Street (1994)
Cold and Cynical!
Let me start of my saying that I love the original 1947 black and white Miracle on 34th Street and as a child of the 70's I even like the 1973 made for TV remake that starred Sebastian Cabot as Kris Kringle/Santa and even thought the original is better I though the 1973 remake was good but this 1994 theatrical remake was awful! The actors in it are very good actors but the movie itself was the pits and has all the warmth of an a container of ice cream left out in the snow! It is so cold and cynical and mean spirited compared to the original and even the teenage janitor that befriended Kris in the other versions and was depicted as a sweet almost simple minded kid was mean in this movie and did things that he would never have done in the other movies. In this movie he only pretended to be his friend and betrayed him. Yes he may have seen the error of his ways in the end but I preferred how nice he was in the other movies and he would never had treated Kris that way by talking behind his back and being in cahoots with the bad guys! I would say that the character in this movie needs lump of coal in his stocking!
Miracle on 34th Street (1973)
Not as Good as The 1947 Movie But Much Better Then The 1994 Movie!
Okay this 1973 made for TV remake isn't as good as the old 1947 black and white original Miracle on 34th Street but it is still good and I actually enjoyed watching it! It was first shown on TV in 1973 when I as a little girl but I had never seen it until this year and so far I have watched it about 2 or 3 times and while the original cast is better I thought that Sebastian Cabot who some may remember as the butler Mr. French in the show Family Affair was good as Kris Kringle and was probably the best actor in the movie along with Jane Alexander! Suzanne Davidson the child actor who played Susan was no where near as great as Natalie Wood but she wasn't bad and David Hartman was good but his acting was a little over the top at times especially in the courtroom scene about the post office and the letters for Santa. All in all not as good as the original but I liked it and any child of the 70's should find this movie amusing and their kids might like it too and it's much better then that awful 1994 theatrical remake!
