Land of the Lost (2009)
Somewhat funny movie marred by religious intolerance
The movie was okay. Not a lot of really funny scenes. Some of the trailers have spoiled the punchlines. The main bone I have with it though is the Jesus joke that Will Ferrell makes in a semi-intoxicated scene. It is in really poor taste and it should have been cut.
It is a shame that Ferrell has to make fun of the beliefs of millions of people in order to make a bad joke. No one in the movie theater laughed at this or really most of the jokes in the movie. One of the problems also with this movie is that the series was a family one. So some people may believe that this is a family movie too. Which it is not. All kind of jokes in here including Vibrator references, A lot of Bathroom humor and also some implied monkeyman to man love. Which is just wrong on so many levels.
My take if you like adult humor and random plot movement see the Hangover. Much funnier in my opinion.
The I Inside (2004)
Ryan Phillipe owes me my 90 minutes back dammit!!
You know those twilight zone episodes where you are instantly enraptured into the plot and then at the end there is a surprise twist, and all of a sudden the episode come across differently? And you are shocked and awed by what happens..
Well I think the makers of this movie were going for this but instead decided to fire the writer halfway thru and get someone else entirely that could bandage the rest of the plot and jam the contents of their script in with the previous writers story.
It reeks of it. The ending is one of the worst I've ever seen. (SPOILER/ It says hey look we took this amount of time to tell this story and since we have no resolution whatsoever with the characters or the story we are just going to kill the lead off. WTF??!!
It is extremely sloppy and it completely leaves entire script holes that without resolution or at least acknowledgment become Script sinkholes!
Like for instance why is the "dad" shown in the photos at the end the doctor at the beginning? Why does the blackmailing girlfriend have a wound that is freshly bleeding in 2002 from a wound that happened in 2000 In the alternate reality?? /SPOILER)
Arghhhh This is just a frustrating movie in which you think the lead is just psychotic then you learn no it's really you, you are the crazy one who bothered to see this Ryan Phillipe movie! I want my 90 minutes back!
The Matador (2005)
Matador a decent flick
First let me say the director has some wonderful use of titles in his establishing shots. I really enjoyed them. I really enjoyed this movie but I got to say next to Pierce Brosnan, Greg Kinear is pretty lackluster. Brosnan melts into this character so well, that it is really hard to remember that this is the same guy that played bond. It also shows his range and depth as an actor. It is kinda of an indie flick and was really nice to see especially with all of the mainstream movies that flood the movies at this time of the year. I found the characters to be well crafted. The twist in the middle I felt was especially good. I also liked how the characters come off realistically. So many times we have in film these caricatures of people that are not really characters but walking-stereotypes... I like the different approaches this movie takes. I think of sideways when I think of this movie but I think this is more watchable and a better movie overall...
