The Bear (2022– )

Comedy? this is a drama masterpiece
13 July 2022
No idea why they classified it as a comedy. It is a drama with many up and downs of life; it's filled with many basic human needs including aiming to be the best at your chosen passion, overcoming challenges and trying to do it all while embracing love of family ( which in The Bear extenders to the staff; no not the staff but the partners).

The series gets better as it progresses into later episodes. Probable best series to come out in the summer of 2022.

The Serpent (2021)

Well researched

Warning: Spoilers
As an avid international traveler the story immediately grasped me. Thank goodness I have not encountered some one like The Serpent in my travels. Frankly I was scared while I watched. Everyone who travels should be aware of predators psychopaths like the one portrayed in the series.

Lazyness, corruption, duty above all, psychopath behavior, naivety, lack of common sense, the film locations, all are well incorporated in different characters who together made the binge worthy story feel very real. Some accents well not so much, although in The Serpent, it will probably only bother Dutch and Belgian viewers. But a note for both Netflix, and Prime Video, please when you cast actors to play foreign nationals without the corresponding accents, it is very annoying to viewers who come from those countries, so please try casting better.

I finished the series in less than a week. I had to read as much as I could find to see how much of the story was real, and from what I found, it does looks like they did an excellent job researching and staying true to what happened ( except for the portrayal of Angela, who has complained that she had been portrayed unfairly ).

If you love traveling and/or have older kids who love traveling make sure that you and they watch it. The story is scary, but as important as the joy that comes from exploring new lands, it is a must to also be aware of bad that can lurk out there.

El Candidato
15 October 2020
The production team did excellent research of Mexican politics, history and locations. Those familiar with Mexico and specially Mexico City will appreciate their work.

El Candidato has an overview that is very realistic of lives of Mexico City residents (Chilangos); from the domestic helper, to those who work odd jobs for the weathy, to the weathy (fresas) and their complicated lifestyles is all very realistic.

From the rough streets of Mexico City's Tepito market neighborhood to the mansions of high end neighborhoods such as Lomas de Chapultepec, the scenery that is Mexico City was portrait as is. Not sure how many Mexicans will view their depiction in the same eyea as it is my experience that most Latin Americans do not like to see our lives recorded publicly.

The US Mexico relationship is also well presented and true to love hate between the US Mexican relations.

Yes the story build in this series was very good too.

Parasite (2019)

A very rewarding experience
15 February 2020
Love to see movies that are different than what comes out of USA studios, and this one was unique and fresh. After seeing it I have added Seoul as my next destination, it just will not happenduring rainy season. 🤣

This film showed that life is not so different around the world. For example the way the rich folk in this film looked on the downtrodden folk; it reminded me of life in 1970s when I grew up in South America.

Yes it merits the awards it received at the Oscars.

Not worth the price that I paid to rent, and it was free with a Pizza delivery.

Was looking forward to watch a movie filmed in Latin America. Was not expecting much but I was looking forward to some Latin American backdrops. It turns out that they could not find a single Latin America film location that was good enough or deemed safe to Goldie and Amy? So they filmed it in, drumroll please, in Hawaii.

Put that first disappointment aside, the acting was not much better. To say it was a bad movie would be too kind, Oh well at least it was not as bad as Ishtar. I would venture that maybe was even a tiny bit better.

I would love to get my money back. But oh yes, I almost forgot; it was free.
