As an avid international traveler the story immediately grasped me. Thank goodness I have not encountered some one like The Serpent in my travels. Frankly I was scared while I watched. Everyone who travels should be aware of predators psychopaths like the one portrayed in the series.
Lazyness, corruption, duty above all, psychopath behavior, naivety, lack of common sense, the film locations, all are well incorporated in different characters who together made the binge worthy story feel very real. Some accents well not so much, although in The Serpent, it will probably only bother Dutch and Belgian viewers. But a note for both Netflix, and Prime Video, please when you cast actors to play foreign nationals without the corresponding accents, it is very annoying to viewers who come from those countries, so please try casting better.
I finished the series in less than a week. I had to read as much as I could find to see how much of the story was real, and from what I found, it does looks like they did an excellent job researching and staying true to what happened ( except for the portrayal of Angela, who has complained that she had been portrayed unfairly ).
If you love traveling and/or have older kids who love traveling make sure that you and they watch it. The story is scary, but as important as the joy that comes from exploring new lands, it is a must to also be aware of bad that can lurk out there.
