Lightyear (2022)
Nice sci-fi for kids
Mi 7 yo son loved it! He loves old 80s scifi films, Star Wars, Avengers and so on, and feel bored with
modern cartoon films that seem too interested in feelings, growing up and common life problems. I guess he simply prefers fantasy and adventures, and Lightyear gives that. This films references many famous scifi films, and make them understandable for kids and fun for parents to catch them all. I think Pixar and Disney should go with more space/superhero/action films.
Now my kid wants a Buzz and a Sox toy.
The Queen's Corgi (2019)
Quite good
I watched this with my 5 years old son. He really enjoyed the film. Despite he usually loose interest with many kids' films, this was not the case. As an adult I found it funny too, specially Trump and Melania's scene.
I really don't understand the bad critics. Maybe its sense of humour is too European for the American taste.
For Whom the Bell Tolls (1943)
There was a war in Europe...
As a Spaniard and a historian, I've always found this film deeply moving. Here in Spain, the films on our Civil War have become so common that, for youngest people, the war seems to be some kind of ancient mythology. This movie allows us to see how the Spanish War was perceived by other countries in contemporary dates. Actually, we cannot forget its importance as a test for WWII. Maria's life remind me of the stories that my grandma used to tell. Men went to war, but women were often ravaged by the winner army as revenge. What really amazes me is the lack of awareness that many people have on my country and their audacity on showing it. I think that's the effect of decades of Mexican actors playing Spaniards in Hollywood films. As a blonde, pale skinned, Caucasian woman, as the majority of my compatriots (remember, we're Europeans), I think Bergman's appearance fits perfectly her part.
