The Regime (2024)
Spectacular
Reading the poor reviews, it's obvious some just don't get it. European politics and American politics are NOT the same. Or maybe they don't know what satire or dry humor means. Their loss and our gain, yeah?
Kate Winslet is brilliant and Matthias Schoenaerts is handsomely menacing. They work well together to make their partnership/relationship interesting. I want to see where it leads. I will pretty much anything Kate's in because her talent is unmatched. Plus I find Matthia extremely sexy. Their chemistry in "A Little Chaos" had an understated sensuality and I couldnt wait to see them together again.
After watching this first episode, I can't wait for the rest of the series.
Major Payne (1995)
One of my faves
This is one of my favorite Wayans movies. I imagine he got to adlib a ton, not only being a comedian but playing a DI allowed him to just go off! I can almost quote this movie line for line, I've watched it so many times. Just a classic.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
What were they thinking?
DC movies have been notoriously bad, but this was just horrible. I thought DC couldn't get worse than the Green Lantern, but they actually did it. Wonder Woman 1984 was a bad script, bad direction, bad timing...just bad. The only good thing was seeing Lynda Carter, but even that was poorly written.
The Kid Who Would Be King (2019)
Just trash
This movie was horrible! Although I tried, I couldn't like any of the characters. The quartet of "heros" were, simply put, lame. The writing was atrocious. Merlin's spell casting was ridiculous -- those gestures! Really guys??? The hand flapping and spirit fingers were over the top. Where did they come up with that? Don't bother watching, unless you need something to help you fall asleep.
Overboard (2018)
Nope
First of all, I don't want to have to read subtitles in a supposedly lighthearted rom-com. The love interest is WAAAAAY to old for Anna Faris, or at least he looks too old. And they have absolutely no chemistry. Same title and premise, but absolutely nothing like the original. For a remake this fell way short.
Fifty Shades Darker (2017)
Why??? For the love of chocolate...why did they make ANOTHER one?
If I could give this movie a 1/2 star I would. They only made a number two because they made so much money off of the first one. Which was just as bad, if not worse. No wait. THIS was worse (if you can wrap your head around that). Why would you make a PG-13 movie based off of a rated R book? Not to say the books were any better, but at least they were racy. This soft mediocre porn drivel they dared to put on the silver screen is just stupid. I want my money AND my 118 minutes back.
The Girl with All the Gifts (2016)
Not better than the book, but better than I thought it would be
I read the book...actually I listened to the audio book every day on the way to work. It was one of the best zombie stories, outside of World War Z that I had the pleasure to "read".
Outside of a few deviations from the book: Melanie is blond and blue- eyed, Miss Justineau is black, Sergeant Parks' face is disfigured from a scar and some other minor departures, the movie was very enjoyable and suspenseful. The kind of zombie movie that makes you wonder how and if this could happen. Just imagine...? A fungus, a bacteria, that causes the masses to become zombies??
The Girl With All The Gifts. My friends and I had a great discussion debating what those gifts actually were.
Ghostbusters (2016)
Just so bad....
This movie is just so bad on just so many levels. It has nothing to do with the women starring in their roles, but the writing itself. You have such a talented cast, but give them bottom of the basement material. The jokes fall flat and the ghosts are uninteresting. One of the ghosts actually looks like a dragon gremlin *insert eye roll here*. I'm so disappointed as I was really looking forward to what they could do with one of my favorites and update it based on today's technology and social media. Yeah, me giving Hollywood too much credit I guess.
Bottom line, this movie was just a waste. Should've been named Ghostblusters.
Love, Rosie (2014)
One of the better romantic comedies!
Better without the trite and predictive plot. After seeing the cover photo for the movie, I thought I knew how it was all going to end. But after 20 minutes and all the twists and turns, I realize my assumptions were all wrong and didn't know HOW this movie was going to reach its denouement.
Rose and Alex, brilliantly acted by Lily Collins and Sam Claflin, had great chemistry that you rooted for them throughout. Yes, it is a chick flick, but the rich comedy of errors and "safe" sex scenes make it humorous for both sexes, with enough drama to make it truly worthwhile.
This is a great date night, rainy afternoon, snowed in movie for all.
Note: The music used in some scenes will have you grinning from ear to ear.
Ray (2004)
One of the best biographical movies I've ever seen!
Jamie Foxx was the epitome of Ray Charles. After a few moments you stop seeing a film and see a biography played by the great man himself. Ray Charles was truly a genius of music and the movie excellently depicted that. No one has ever or will ever write, play, or record music like this musical giant. When he passed the flesh, the world lost one of it's greatest American heroes. As far as the movie, the fact that Jamie Foxx received a classical music scholarship to college and could play like Ray was an asset to the director. What could be better than that? You don't have to have a "double" play piano and then try to split the screen from someone else's hands to Jamie's face. It worked beautifully. I loved the fact that it also picked up how difficult Ray was. He wasn't always a nice man. You didn't also root for him. He was a drug addict, a womanizer, and sometimes just plain hard-headed. But I guess that's what made him genius so I can't fault him for that. I pick Jamie for Best Actor!
Leave Her to Heaven (1945)
One of her best roles
This was ONE of Gene Tierney's best roles, outside of Laura. She plays a woman lost in jealousy and unjustified vengeance. You understand her love for her husband and are not horrified by her murderous acts because she is so lovely and really not a bad person. You also sympathize with her, because you sense her loneliness. She has to be lonely because she's so caught up this web of jealousy. Who can she confide in with it? No one. Cornel Wilde is sort of a dolt to not see how "mad" is wife is. There are questions you can see he wants to ask of his mother-in-law, but doesn't to his detriment. I love, love this movie. Buy it - you'll watch it over and over again.
