This show doesn't need a spoiler alert as it's same old tale retold gonna be entertaining nevertheless. If you've seen Justified or any series like that you'd see the story coming from miles away. Again, entertaining nevertheless.
I'm still shocked from learning Sly is 75, dear God man he's a role model for tenacity & physical fitness.
I start with Sly coz not just he's the lead but he carries the show. His charisma drives this show. Not just acting if you see the show you'd know Sly's touch in it. You can see how he'd have helped direct & script certain scenes. Like in one scene, his driver Tyson's father's car and his car's position in the driveway would tell you a tale. No spoon feeding to audience about its meaning & I'm not gonna either but these are things Sly would suggest.
Second the female lead, again if you watched any series that revolves around south you'd know while the character Stacy dates Dwight (Sly) first you know she's gonna be the negative but not a villain. If you haven't realized it in first episode then they show you how she's not exclusively dating him thus a slight smear on her character. If you haven't realize even then then you'd see Dwight checking out a charming southern woman with etiquette; with divorce problems but an independent classy woman nevertheless then you'd know she's the lead. If you still don't know the formula you'd see she's a popular actress & you'd know she's gonna be his pair.
Now it may sound like I'm dissing the show, as I said I like it but I am surprised by high rating so I feel it's my duty to say it's not groundbreaking.
Scenes are just cherry picked. Things that would never happen irl but happens. The entire plot is unrealistic. The way how the plot favors the hero is unrealistic and how the villain is butchered by the plot is unrealistic. Sly can walk in & convince everyone to give him money but a domestic terrorist Villain can't and haven't done it until then. Sly can leave his people in trouble and get welcomed like a king but villain just shoots his minions at one sign of disobedience. Don't even start with me on the final shootdown. Monkeys would shoot better than the villains, heck storm troopers have better aim. Chickie's consigliere leaving him for Sly in 3 sec as if he doesn't have family and as if Mafia's biggest thing is giving properties to their top dogs as in if he left Chickie & NY even if he's single he'd be leaving a multi million dollar establishment that's under his name & control.
Oh did I mention the villain is a hard Irish accent guy in Oklahoma with Italian Sly as hero. Lol. But I don't think it's hateful they just scripted to shift Irish - Italian mob war to Tulsa.
I can go on & on about the holes in plot that are bigger than the moon. About how Sly's daughter who can't stand him will choose to reconcile and will in the next season defend his father from everyone. Which I don't mind I think the actress playing his daughter is gorgeous. Also I think Chickie's hatred towards Dwight is over his love for his daughter which wasn't reciprocated. So she'd be a big part of S2. You know Armand is gonna flip & Tucson the driver is gonna have a complex relationship with Dwight in future.
Again despite these plethora of plot holes I like it because while its no Ulysses it doesn't drive hate like every other TV series nowadays. It does have some kinda woke moments but also has some moments questioning (not critisizing) woke stuff.
So to me this is Justify rebranded. Justified had oozing charisma in Timothy Olyphant which Sly can & have matched, but Justified had Walt Goggins putting on a stellar performance balancing out the show. So imo while this first season was cool, it's gonna nothing but downhill. But gonna be a good watch during which you're not gonna be told to hate anyone irl but just support for a criminal lol.
