What a pleasant surprise ~ finally a western with a horror theme! The acting is very good: Russell is great, and the supporting characters are well-casted. Overall, it's gritty, really 'western', and the dialogue is well done. Ending is surprising. A very enjoyable '7' and a sleeper, in my books.

Rio Bravo ~ NOT an '8'!
24 May 2017
This western was SO disappointing! John Wayne was rather tame in this one, and seemed bored by it all; Brennan was OK; Dean Martin was NOT good; Ricky Nelson was forgettable. Dickinson was the best of the lot, and that ain't saying much. It just seemed it was filmed on a poor set ~ lifeless all the way around. I think it may have been a 6 or so in its day, but this oater doesn't hold up to some of the good western that came out in the late 50's/early 60's. The '4' I give it now is GENEROUS!

Disturbia ~ great premise stupidly done... {SPOILER?}
8 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
What a great premise...teen in a great old house with sloppy tendencies and TONS of electronic stuff {stretched a bit, for me!}, watching his neighbours while he is under observation and electronically 'wired' to his house and yard. Acting is good, especially Roehmer {mmmmm}; they could have dropped the Asian guy {but he was 'ok'}, demon-looking neighbour. But the movie gets RIDICULOUS 3/4's of the way through, and is just plain STUPID at the end. Don't bother with the last portion ~ just watch the first 3/4 of it..and you can figure it out!

All was VERY GOOD, EXCEPT that ^%$%^ ENDING!
18 January 2010
Superb location, great dialogues between the characters, and the acting is very good, along with the direction. As one watches, the possibilities of how it would end are countless! I love thrillers/horror, but this one, with all that goodness and all those possibilities, kind of let me down at the end. The ending's rather weak...it left me wanting MORE! And regardless of all these reviews about what some call a "thinking man's movie",I feel they wasted this one by wrapping it up loosely at the end. My rating was 6 out of 10...a bit generous for me, even by my usually tough 'standards'. There was more goodness for me throughout the movie ~ it was just that quick ending that sucked!

Good movie...but NOT Great!
15 December 2008
This is a good movie, with unusual twists {actually TOO many, for my liking!}. Good roles for Baldwin and Kidman, Pullman is a panty-waist teacher and is OK but to me, he seems he comes across roles like that in MANY his movies...zzzzzzzzzzz!} Appearances by old pros Bancroft {good performance} and Scott {not noteworthy} seem to be 'there' to just add their names to the promotable aspect of the film at release time, in my opinion! And I don't think their performances are as 'great' as others have written here. Dialogue, while spotty, is OK. If you must watch, do watch Baldwin and Kidman ~ they're the best in this flick. 6 out of 10 overall...{and I'm tough on most movies!}

It could have been better....
15 November 2006
DeNiro is a master...one of my favourites. And I love GOOD sports movies {not into baseball so much, but hey, its sports movies, right?. I was expecting MUCH more for this movie. It seems to start out well: DeNiro is what I expected, Snipes {whom I don't really like} is very good as the spoiled star. Barkin's role, to me, was OK. She's a good actress, but seemed out of place in this role. To me, they always seemed to rush the scenes, and then it drags a bit in places. It just seemed tio me to be so uneven! Considering the cast and the plot, it could have been so much better. I rated it a '4', and I was being generous ~ I'm a tough one with numbers!

Riverboat (1959–1961)
Trivia....re Burt Reynolds.
17 February 2006
This was a very good television series for its day. What should be noted is that McGavin and Reynolds had a feud during this television series. I seem to recall it was around who's the actual star/salary paid/whatever?. To my knowledge, these two haven't been friendly since ~ almost 50 years! They don't mention each other's name when commenting about this show. It's VERY hard to ensure we get a "maximum 1000 words or a minimum of 10 lines" as per your posting guidelines, when our comments, while they may be valid after your review, may not meet this criteria. Perhaps you could consider LOWERING this guideline for some of us avid contributors!?

"The Forgotten"? = Forgettable
28 January 2006
A grieving mother, Telly Paretta, is struggling to cope with the loss of her 9-year-old son. She is stunned when her psychiatrist and her husband tell her that she has created eight years of memories of a son she never had. But when she meets the father of one of her son's friend who is having the same experience, Telly embarks on a mission to prove her son's existence and her sanity. And the the goofiness starts! Chasing around in the dark..... 100's of scenes from high above....dark/gloomy... "Where's Mulder?" would be a better name! This one, with a decent plot and a good start, just goes on and on... could have wrapped this baby up in a half-hour TV show.... But it just goes on and on! And WHO could possibly sleep in a shady hotel room, with chips and booze, AND JULIANA MOORE!? AND NOTHING HAPPENS? Not with me, my friend!

Too LONG!
20 February 2005
I found this movie rather tedious....it was gritty acting for Pitt, very good performance (as usual) by Freeman, and even Paltrow was good in this one. And the gory details they keep finding out at the murder scenes start to get preposterous. But, alas, it was far too L-O-N-G and could have been shortened somewhat. I think the movie went on far too long - they could have wrapped it up after the first 2 hours, but instead go on and on... And that scene where Pitt chases the suspect seems to never end...rain and all. Rather depressing...and not believable. I find it difficult to give this movie too much of a rating...my '6' is rather generous.

Mystic leaves a lot to be desired
9 January 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Starts off OK, but Eastwood doesn't develop the characters 'full enough', outside of the 3 primary guys. Only Fishburne gets some attention, while all the wives/children/and any others outside of Bacon/Penn/Robbins characters get very little descriptions. When Penn's daughter is murdered, he's sobbing away, but I don't think most of the audience have much emotion, since we don't know her too well, and never do. Same with the girl's boyfriend and his family...and all 3 of those actors' wives in the film seem to be floating about... After all the hoopla on this movie, I was disappointed. While the acting is good, I didn't think either Penn or Robbins did an 'academy' job by any standards. Good, but not great.
